Actually mate, we down here in Asia Pac don't get it either. So I'm actually in the same boat as you, not 'em americans.

Just a heads up, for all the people who picked the su7300 for added resale value, what do you think a steal plate with your name etched in it will do to devalue your laptop when selling it?
something to think about
-
Everyone with Steam registration questions should try to register their games now to see if they work. It's the only way to know.
-
Dad told me it might be a problem, but heck use something very ambiguous and no-one would be the wiser.
My technique is to give every alphabet a number with z = 0, add the numbers up, multiply by 42, convert to hexadecimal. Hehehehehe. Unique yet nobody really knows what it means. Too much of a math buff.
-
My rep in Canada said the same thing but I get the feeling that's just standard delivery time for Dell products in general. I'm trying to forget about it, very difficult. Waiting for the release date was bad enough, this is borderline unbearable. -
No, you can register some of your games on Steam, but it is mainly games by Valve. They are stating to use steam from now on. I would suggest looking into no-cd cracks since that's probably the only way to get around it.
-
bought all my games via steam since l4d1. So no worries here lol. But just want to know the general consensus, Bad company 2 or Modern warfare 2? Cause I have extra cash left over to buy one of those. Hehehe
-
and that is why I didn't get my name on it
-
what is the code for the $100.00 off? Has anyone order it in silver
-
Can't you just unscrew the nameplate? Here's a picture from the bottom:
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviewimages/alienware_m11x/5.jpg -
what will last longer for general use? We all know which will last for gaming
alienware 11x or macbook pro 2.26GHz unibody -
Hmmm looking at that picture, i wonder if the Uk version will have just a blank plate there?, or even just a screw holes, then i can get the factory to laser etch me abit of Titanium
-
It depends which games, I guess...I have the Orange box and the L4D one and two on disks, but they all are Valve games, so they registered those right away and I don't need to use the disks at all.
-
Another suggestion I have is that EA now supplies all new PC games with a download ticket, just enter your Product Key in the EA download manager, and you can download the game and play it, just incase ur game ever breaks or whatever.
I know for certain it works for mass effect 2, I am not sure about crysis and crysis warhead.
But it is a nice neat feature EA is no doing for no extra charge. -
Add me to the list of M11x users. Just started school again and will be doing lots of travelling / group work.. so I hope this machine's CPU will be speedy enough.
Went for Core2Duo/2GB Ram/160GB HDD/Windows 7 Pro/ 2 years of accident and support. Got a price of less than 700GBP shipped, ETA 2/24/2009 =) Will add my 4GB HyperX RAM to that baby.
For storage, what do you guys think of my options,
- Should I use my 128GB SSD as the main drive in the M11x and have the 500GB 7200RPM in a USB enclosure, or
- Use the 500GB 7200 RPM in the M11x, and use my 128gb SSD in my Core i7 Desktop that i'm building.
Input appreciated. Wondering if SSD would be better off in my performance machine and if I should just maximize the actual storage capacity on this Ultra Portable (NOT NETBOOK) without things attached to it, and just eat the slower access times. -
EDIT: Nevermind. Someone beat me to it.
-
Can this thing run basic photoshop in a pinch at all?
Thanks! -
My 2002 desktop and my first-gen Atom netbook can.
-
Would you want to edit photos on an 11" screen?
-
If you are working on single images then this thing is more than adequate for PS imo.
-
Hey, that took a while but thanks for the reply! I am really glad now that I chose 8gb of ram!
-
Thats what big big baby the M17X is for, I was just curious if it COULD. The screen is small, but Im a landscape architecture major and having something decent that could thats a bit more portable than the M17X could be useful in those situations.
-
so i called them...i tried to ask for the 50 dollars off on top of the 10 percent and 100 dollars off , it was a no go..stupid stubborn rep wouldnt give me any extra discounts..plus i wasnt able to order it through wire transfering (my only option) even tho under payment options on dell it states wire transfering is an option
so now i am m11x-less
AND the 100 dollar off coupon expires tonight...anyone know if we can at least expect any similar offers later down the line? -
I am trying to order on dell.ca
these coupons do not work
Canada Coupons = 28QC82NJQHHMML = Expires 02/04/10 - $799+ System = $100 off
More Coupons = MJ0FQN45M21NWH = Expires 02/11/10 - $899+ System = $100 off
More Coupons = Q2?W2WJPKK7J1H = Expires 02/04/10 - $899+ System = $50 off -
sorry but I meant which would last longer in the sense of longevity for its use...which is more futureproof?
-
hahaha im in almost the same boat you are. need that $50 off too or it just doesnt seem worth the value of me buying it right now if ever. Currently the rep will "call me back in 15 minutes" to see if she can get the $50 code to work again...... hope so.
ughhhhh -
can I get the $100 coupon that expires tonight
-
I'm in the same boat as you, Canada. Sigh, no luck with any coupons or discounts. The best we have is EPP which will give you 7% or I believe a student discount of 5%
Mention the RFD thing and you will get a free Logitech MX518 mouse I believe.
But if you somehow get more discounts, please let me know how! -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
If you read the post 3 posts before yours, Or if you looked at the first page, you would of seen the codes.
-
What is the RFD? I love more free stuff lol.
thanks! -
Almy games are on steam. I figured DVDs were a hassle and pc gaming was moving toward digital so a year ago when I got back into gaming I decided to go digital route unless I knew the game could be registered on steam or it was a ridiculous deal. Check my sig for my games
I'll be benchmarking g many of those including crysis and dragon age.

I see some people getting 2/12 release dates and I'm getting 3/8 despite ordering on day one. ?
-
That's why I went with M11x on my plate.
-
hahah yeah it's a great game, but I'll be honest, probably over half those hours were me just sitting around in an idle map trying to get unlocks hahah, so obviously I didn't get the halo hat =D
not recorded is when I used to play WoW, yeah.. I got like 500+ hours on that one recordeed via xfire heheh -
Laptop for sure. Since you'll be moving it around; the SSD will be nice as it has no moving parts.
My home PC is on all the time; so the faster boot times in the laptop with the SSD will be nice as well. -
totally man, never had an SSD before but I know the benefits and with this I"m so excited to see the difference on all aspects of it.. including no more minute vibrations and I assume no noise either =)
-
Good point. The desktop drive is also more powerful so while the random writes wont be as good..
But what about having to game and have mp3s on my M11x? Looks like i'll just have to have my 500GB USB enclosure with me all the time? -
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
That's why I have I <3 my M11x
Also I wish I could afford SSD...not ballin' enough though =/ -
This is why I went with the 500gb HD. Besides being $378 cheaper, it will have the space for media and games and not need to lug a HD as well (already will keep a DVD drive in case).
My guess is we will see prices drop through the year, so the $378 premium will probably be twice the memory then. BTW, the expected point that SSDs exlpode with sales is when they hit 500gb at an affordable price. -
I'm only gonna install 4-5 games on my M11X at a time. If you want to install more games; you'll probably want a regular hard drive.
If you use Steam, it's really easy to reinstall a game.
As for music, how about a 16/32GB SD card? Is that enough space? They aren't too expensive; and you don't need fast access times for music. -
I feel like a spammer in this thread already with the same story. I really want one of these little monsters. With all the chatting going on about this computer, I am genuinely salivating while I read this thread.
Looking forward to seeing some computer room setups once these things start arriving to their owners. I'll wait for a reasonable hint of a refresh, and if it takes too long I am just gonna go ahead and buy one. Gotta do some crazy digging. -
I luv steam, since it enables me to have my games on my laptop and desktop (as long as signed in one at a time. of course). Also great for not having to need the disc in the drive to launch most mainstream games.
Been on the road a few times and forgot the discs to launch
Steam, both for lobster and games is good

I just got off the phone with my Alienware rep Ty from Team legacy. I wanted to get an update on the shipping situation. Of all the people at dell I have talked to, Ty seems to be one of the more knowledgeable.
Heres what I was told:
The M11x is still in quality control testing, and has not been released to the factories for full production yet. Once testing is completed (He wasn't sure exactly when) Then they would be released to production (And reviewers). However with Chinese new year looming large starting this Friday, he didn't expect production to actually begin until sometime after the 14th when the factories re-start operations.
He said there is always a possibility that those of us that ordered early will receive it before the 3/4/10 date, but because of all the variables at this time of year, they are saying 3/4.
