Just a heads up, for all the people who picked the su7300 for added resale value, what do you think a steal plate with your name etched in it will do to devalue your laptop when selling it?

    something to think about ;)

Everyone with Steam registration questions should try to register their games now to see if they work. It's the only way to know.

Dad told me it might be a problem, but heck use something very ambiguous and no-one would be the wiser. :D My technique is to give every alphabet a number with z = 0, add the numbers up, multiply by 42, convert to hexadecimal. Hehehehehe. Unique yet nobody really knows what it means. Too much of a math buff.

My rep in Canada said the same thing but I get the feeling that's just standard delivery time for Dell products in general. I'm trying to forget about it, very difficult. Waiting for the release date was bad enough, this is borderline unbearable.

No, you can register some of your games on Steam, but it is mainly games by Valve. They are stating to use steam from now on. I would suggest looking into no-cd cracks since that's probably the only way to get around it.

bought all my games via steam since l4d1. So no worries here lol. But just want to know the general consensus, Bad company 2 or Modern warfare 2? Cause I have extra cash left over to buy one of those. Hehehe

It depends which games, I guess...I have the Orange box and the L4D one and two on disks, but they all are Valve games, so they registered those right away and I don't need to use the disks at all.

Another suggestion I have is that EA now supplies all new PC games with a download ticket, just enter your Product Key in the EA download manager, and you can download the game and play it, just incase ur game ever breaks or whatever.

I know for certain it works for mass effect 2, I am not sure about crysis and crysis warhead.

But it is a nice neat feature EA is no doing for no extra charge.

Add me to the list of M11x users. Just started school again and will be doing lots of travelling / group work.. so I hope this machine's CPU will be speedy enough.

Went for Core2Duo/2GB Ram/160GB HDD/Windows 7 Pro/ 2 years of accident and support. Got a price of less than 700GBP shipped, ETA 2/24/2009 =) Will add my 4GB HyperX RAM to that baby.

For storage, what do you guys think of my options,
    - Should I use my 128GB SSD as the main drive in the M11x and have the 500GB 7200RPM in a USB enclosure, or
    - Use the 500GB 7200 RPM in the M11x, and use my 128gb SSD in my Core i7 Desktop that i'm building.

Input appreciated. Wondering if SSD would be better off in my performance machine and if I should just maximize the actual storage capacity on this Ultra Portable (NOT NETBOOK) without things attached to it, and just eat the slower access times.

In the hardwareheaven review, the Alienware will last a bit under 6 hours for general usage with flash. For gaming, it will last about 2 hours.

In comparison, the newest 15" Macbook Pro managed 6.48 hours of general usage with flash according to Anandtech.

Thats what big big baby the M17X is for, I was just curious if it COULD. The screen is small, but Im a landscape architecture major and having something decent that could thats a bit more portable than the M17X could be useful in those situations.

I'm in the same boat as you, Canada. Sigh, no luck with any coupons or discounts. The best we have is EPP which will give you 7% or I believe a student discount of 5%

Mention the RFD thing and you will get a free Logitech MX518 mouse I believe.

But if you somehow get more discounts, please let me know how!

Almy games are on steam. I figured DVDs were a hassle and pc gaming was moving toward digital so a year ago when I got back into gaming I decided to go digital route unless I knew the game could be registered on steam or it was a ridiculous deal. Check my sig for my games :) I'll be benchmarking g many of those including crysis and dragon age.

Laptop for sure. Since you'll be moving it around; the SSD will be nice as it has no moving parts.
My home PC is on all the time; so the faster boot times in the laptop with the SSD will be nice as well.

Good point. The desktop drive is also more powerful so while the random writes wont be as good..

But what about having to game and have mp3s on my M11x? Looks like i'll just have to have my 500GB USB enclosure with me all the time?

This is why I went with the 500gb HD. Besides being $378 cheaper, it will have the space for media and games and not need to lug a HD as well (already will keep a DVD drive in case).

My guess is we will see prices drop through the year, so the $378 premium will probably be twice the memory then. BTW, the expected point that SSDs exlpode with sales is when they hit 500gb at an affordable price.

I'm only gonna install 4-5 games on my M11X at a time. If you want to install more games; you'll probably want a regular hard drive.
If you use Steam, it's really easy to reinstall a game. :)

As for music, how about a 16/32GB SD card? Is that enough space? They aren't too expensive; and you don't need fast access times for music.

I feel like a spammer in this thread already with the same story. I really want one of these little monsters. With all the chatting going on about this computer, I am genuinely salivating while I read this thread.

Looking forward to seeing some computer room setups once these things start arriving to their owners. I'll wait for a reasonable hint of a refresh, and if it takes too long I am just gonna go ahead and buy one. Gotta do some crazy digging.

I luv steam, since it enables me to have my games on my laptop and desktop (as long as signed in one at a time. of course). Also great for not having to need the disc in the drive to launch most mainstream games.

Been on the road a few times and forgot the discs to launch :(

Steam, both for lobster and games is good :)

Put on AMEX card that doubled the warranty to 2 years and gives me another 1% back.

they wanted me to use my DPA but they couldn't match the value of the doubled warranty from my Amex card.

I just got off the phone with my Alienware rep Ty from Team legacy. I wanted to get an update on the shipping situation. Of all the people at dell I have talked to, Ty seems to be one of the more knowledgeable.

    Heres what I was told:

The M11x is still in quality control testing, and has not been released to the factories for full production yet. Once testing is completed (He wasn't sure exactly when) Then they would be released to production (And reviewers). However with Chinese new year looming large starting this Friday, he didn't expect production to actually begin until sometime after the 14th when the factories re-start operations.

He said there is always a possibility that those of us that ordered early will receive it before the 3/4/10 date, but because of all the variables at this time of year, they are saying 3/4.
    :( :( :(
