I was attempting to order and went through the EPP site. Do they check credentials or call you? I want to get the 10% off....but need to figure out what to put down so it won't get flagged.

Sounds good man, In fact in some respect the samsung is a good choice simply due to the additional storage space, its just unfortunate samsung hasnt started fixing their 4k random issues.

Good stuff that the samsung supports ncq, although im unsure of what the raw benefits are, I know with the intel its the difference of about 4x the 4k randoms, which is enough to demand that the drive be put in AHCI. NCQ stands for native command queuing and is similar to write caching which is how the intel gets its speed. It has like 10 SSD controller channels or something onboard the drive that with NCQ will put all the writes requested from the OS altogether then will combine them to almost simulate a sequential write which all SSDs are very fast with.

Anyways I may not have explained it perfectly, or could have gotten parts of that wrong but suffice it to say its a big help to certain SSDs if not all :)

    Points to ponder:

    1. Are we sure the M11x can be overclocked, or was this perhaps a development version of the bios that will not be in the final release?

    2. Anyone on the fence with SSD memory, you may want to hold off, since the telemetry of SSD prices and sizes are expected to be more "mainstream" at the end of the year. You could get the 500gb HD now, save almost $400 and then get a 512gb SSD at the end of the year. $400 now, equals a lot of games from Steam ;). Save even more money by getting a smaller memory HD, if you intend on getting an SSD later, anyways.

    3. The comments that Crysis playing at 50fps could be true, since that game probably leverages the physics functions built into the 335m, so not all CPU load. Anyways, about a month or less to find out how well it does play :)

    Arg. Yeah.

I'm torn between using my 500GB 7200 RPM drive, or my 128GB SSD :)

The 32GB SD card is a good idea, nice way to add extra GB's in a compact form factor. I'll check it out :p

Actually I did ask him that, he just didn't have an answer as the unit is still in testing. I also asked about the Su4100 oc, didn't know for sure on that either, but he did say that if it is enabled for the 7300 it should be enabled for the 4100 but he sounded unsure, so I would take it all with a grain of salt at this point.

Probably wont know for sure until the first review units are sent out and the reviews start coming out.

been lurking since the debut thread :)

this may be a stupid question...i haven't kept up with tech for a few years. are the intel ssds just plug and play? or do i have to worry about any compatibility issues with the m11x? also, are all ssd drives the same physical size (2.5")?

i was thinking of getting this particular intel ssd:

I guess we can answer this ourselves with 90% accuracy.

Does current Alienware laptops allow simple overclocking in the bios like the M11x review showed? That would be our answer, right there.

On another note, an 11x at max options from Dell is only about $168 different, but the 11z has less features when at max.

    1. 320gb HD
    2. no discrete GPU, not to mention a 335m
    3. Weaker display
    4. No 5.1 sound
    5. No trippy lights
    6. Highest option is SU4100
    7. Smaller battery
    8. No overclock option (assuming we get one, of course).

Factor all of that in, the 11z is absolute whack compared to the M11x. Makes my purchase of the M11x seem like a bargain :)

Did nobody see the alienware rep confirming both CPUs overclock? How is this still up for debate?

An Alienware rep, in this very thread, confirmed that both CPUs overclock. 100% accuracy, nothing else to say.

I work for a company with all of our production in China. One thing to keep in mind is that in China EVERYONE works no less than 6 days a week, and only get 2 holidays a year, New year being the big one.

So all the factory workers head out to the far flung reaches of China to be with their family's, and the whole country shuts down for two weeks each year.

Just sucks that all the laptop ODM's are primarily in china, and AW decided to bring the M11x to market during this time of year.

This may be the sort of question i won't like the answer to (owing to my desire to have my m11x arrive next week...), but my ETA quoted by my Dell sales rep was 11th Feb.

Clearly something isn't quite right here, as if its still in QA, why would my ETA be so soon? who is correct? :)

Seeing as EU customers seem to be getting very brief ETAs, Surely the Chinese new year timing is a more likely culprit? Either that or there has been some sort of internal miscommunication... :)

God this thread is so full of completely pointless debating.

    1) They're both going to OC. [CONFIRMED BY REP]
    2) It will run <game you want to play> just fine. You may need to tweak your gfx settings a bit.

Thats it. Talk about other stuff now thx ;P

Any rep you talk to is a sales rep. They do NOT know the ins and outs of this machine at all. They'll probably never even see or hold one. Taking any information they give you other then what we already know as hard fact from rep's posts here that are trusted sources is taking a huge leap of faith.

Still in QA? No it isn't. Give me a break. They wouldn't have a product with this much hype getting hundreds of pre-orders if it wasn't ready to go. It's likely getting the March ship dates as a precaution so that they can be sure they will meet demand for the product. No no no, it's done with QA. If it was still in QA there would be a very real chance of it getting a major setback from a design flaw or something and we'd be waiting another month or two.

In other new Alienware new releases, Euro customers got very short ETA's that were then adjusted back a few times putting them in line with what the US/world ETA was from the start.

Hope thats not the case here, but given past history and the fact that its only UK buyers so far that Ive seen with the super short ETA, while the rest of the world is getting early march ETA's I'm guessing its some sort of internal miscommunication.

OK then look at it this way.. if it was SO ready to go, WHY isn't it in the hands of the major review sites, such as Cnet or others that gave it "Best in CES" awards? Why are the only two reviews on relatively obscure review sites, and are only using pre production "Samples"?

Jesus I ordered one of these too, I am just as jazzed as everyone else here about this laptop, but when was the last time you saw a major brand, drop a major new category on the market in January, and not even seen one production unit review? Doesn't sound very ready to go to me..

Oh, and whats wrong with some continued debate on this thing, would you rather have 169 pages of "I got one too, heres my specs" and "The coupons dont stack anymore, bummer"? LOL!

IGN and HardwareHeaven put up in-depth reviews of the M11x. I'm not sure if they were pre-production samples, but they looked exactly the same as the photos at CES and everywhere else.

Apparently you haven't been around here much for releases like the M17x, etc.

Dell/AW usually sends out samples to a few places first. These units have already been built and were probably the same ones on the floor at CES.

If you can't wait, then cancel and buy something else.

It's simple. Even Dell isn't stupid enough to set up a pre-order if the system isn't ready to be put into manufacturing.

They released the i7 XPS 16 and obviously didn't do much testing, so I can assure you with much confidence that this one is either fully tested, or "tested enough" in Dell's opinion :p Otherwise they wouldn't have order pages up.

I haven't even ordered mine yet so my opinion has nothing to do with can't-wait-syndrome :)
