Buy an external CD-ROM drive. If you have 700+ to spend on this laptop, you ought to have another $50 to get one if you will need it, otherwise you need to save more.

EDIT: The M'sia Dell site just took down the silver option... And added the SSD. Turns out nobody, including Dell, is sure about what this thing is supposed to have. -
Re-ordered mine today... they put the $ from my first order to my updated one and charged the extra to the same card...convenient.

What confuses me is the RAM configuration...It didnt occur to me there was no option for DDR2 so i guess DDR3 was the only option?
also, here it says its clocked at 1066mhz...but on the config site, there is no option for that...only 800mhz...
anyone else get the same thing?
Seems like the most popular configuration though..
$1019 -10% -100$... they wouldnt let me add the extra 50$ newsletter coupon.
came out to 875.67 after taxes and all. -

I just hope this doesn't inspire some people to come asking at the store for 800mhz DDR3 ram... That would be awkward...

Equivalent to christmas but more in my opinion. It is the time of year where you try to visit any family, actually like all family. It is a big freaking deal. If people here in the states can take off a week for Christmas to new years along with tons of other holidays then give the chinese their holiday. I can bet they work harder than many of us in terms of hours and physical labor. I'm waiting for this unit too but no need to be selfish about it. This post angered me at first but whatever. Chill out.

Suppliers I worked with in China sure love it. I must admit though it is a pain in the butt getting product delivered or expedited during this time of year. We used to have to ramp up inventory on critical parts to cover for the party time
I say used to, since I got out of production control and forecasting. Both are thankless positions -
Yay! Finally bought it and my M17X has a new fwiend!
After the rep called me back (finally) in the middle of my grpahics class. "heeey i gotta leave the room to buy this Alienware...." lol.
Basics:
Alienware M11x, Lunar Silver
Intel Core2 Duo SU7300 1.3GHz (3MB Cache, 800MHz FSB)
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz
11.6-inch WideHD 1366x768 (720p) WLED
1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M
320GB SATAII 7,200RPM
But yeah $821.60 for the unit and $887.33 total with New York sales tax. not too bad. Got free first day shipping too cause i complained so much about loosing that $50. BTW my rep told me Dell doesn't do "freebies" (t-shirts etc) anymore
Anyway, hope that silver is as good as it looks -
I feel you. Although I've never heard of having a week off for Christmas/New Years.Click to expand...

The processor runs at 800 MHz FSB. 200 MHz x 6.5 multiplier = 1300 MHz
Therefore the memory runs at 800 MHz. 200MHz x 4 = 800 MHz
Also this is where the overclocking comes into play.
CPU 266 MHz x 6.0 multiplier = 1600 MHz
Memory 266 MHz x 4 = 1066 MHz
So when overclocked, the memory is actually running at its rated speed. This should have no affect on system stability either because that is a mild overclock for Intel processors.
And people saying they are going to burn out their processors running it overclocked, you are wrong. Overclocking a processor doesn't shorten its life, overvolting it does (running the processor at a higher voltage than what the CPU is rated for. Heat wise these are designed to run at 100 - 105 C and from what I have seen in the reviews under load it was at 69 C. Ambient temperatures can play a part in CPU temps but I honestly don't see people reaching 100 C under normal conditions and proper ventilation. -
Looks like the SU4100 and lesser hard drives are now unavailable, the starting configuration is now $1,188. I wonder how long until they are back.

Oh and my rep told me I couldnt even stack my 3% off for DPA, whatever....
lying bums...... -
You have to keep telling them. They told me that too and I told them that 10 other people did it, and they checked it. I had to wait 10 minutes on the phone just for that part even, but I got all the discounts (i.e. the EPP/100$/50$/DPA) I could milk [no additional disc from rep tho =\]
My rep initially said 'The discount is not applicable because there are already too many discounts applied'. Bleh, too badCan get my money but not all
-
Whats with the new $1069 price tag?
-
I've reconfirmed today with my rep that the $50, $100, EPP, and 3% DPA discounts all will be put on my order... Tried to run the order through today but they're having troubles with my DPA so the order is basicly on hold.

CA state tax sucks, but I figured snagging a 3 yr warranty with it wasn't a terrible idea, but I wish I could of shaved a few hundred more off the price. -

In terms of the colour, ours is Lunar Silver... as it was one of the first samples assembled by AW they might have decided on a slightly lighter shade by launch time but it should be pretty close.
