two questions
one: why do US buyers have a estimated delivery date of march while UK estimated delivery of next week ??
two: is it better to use the drivers from the alienware website or from the nvidia website ?
-
Don't trust the ETAs, i doubt anyone is getting one of these before march.
-
Except if little people start to come and assemble 'em at night
[dunno why this thought came up XD] -

Guys whats the difference between a 11.6-inch WideHD 1366x768 (720p) LCD and a 11.6-inch WideHD 1366x768 (720p) WLED? Which is better
-
WLED is better but they're probably the same in this case, just different naming. Cuz I think both are LCD's,but LED is the backlighting. Someone correct me if I'm way off base lol.
-
Unless its OLED, don't fret over it. LOL
-
Are you saying you have got a choice too or did you just read my post earlier??
-
No I didn't get a choice, I'm in the uk and have the LCD one on mine. And the US have the WLED so I was wondering if there any sufficient difference between them
-
maybe it's just a regional name difference, then again the wled option on the studio xps costs 100$ extra. Since I used to own a studio xps, I can confirm that the wled is one of the BEST screens I had EVER seen. The black color is especially sharp.
-
Wait, did we get a choice when it came to the screen? All I have is the

WooHoo, ordered mine earlier today. EPP 10% discount and $100, couldn't stack the $50 newsletter (and the sales rep sucked). $907.10 subtotal. Very excited to get this thing. Now I just need to find a good case/bag and a nice bluetooth mouse.

Check your order confirmation email. It should say something like:
-
Oi just spent 30 min on the phone reordering my system with a su4100. Thats it, no more changes
-
-- LCD --
-- 11.6-inch WideHD 1366x768 (720p) WLED
-- [320-9886]
Yep got that. So we couldn't upgrade the screen? Just want to make sure now and look like an idiot then be wrong and look like an idiot a month down the road. -
why not the upgraded CPU? 3 mb cache is great imo
-
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
You reorder with a su4100? how come? -
Im pretty sure the WLED is just USA standard naming, and is the same as the LED. I assume it stands for wide, as in the 16x9 ratio. But the best way would be to email or call dell and find out in person.
-
LOL, I think I must be the only person who hasn't cancelled and reordered
-
now that we know that you can overclock the su4100 its not worth it for me to pay $100 for the su7300. In the end it's my portable laptop for school and work. I hardly game but its always nice to know I can for when and if I decide to get back into it. I think people expect way too much out of a 11 inch laptop, kinda crazy but it has almost as much performance as my m1710
-
I paid 745$ for the SU7300,Bluetooth,4gb,250gb hard drive due to all the coupon stacking, if I reordered right now they wouldn't be able to get all the coupons to stack again so it's sort of like getting a free processor upgrade for me.
-
I don't think this feature is different in different countries. I think it's just a mistake/type from Dell.
WLED stands for White LED, meaning it uses white LEDs for backlighting to save power. You can find more information (although from a less-than-reliable source) here. -
man i hope this 11" beast came before March
-
The SU7300 has the Intel VT while the SU4100 does not. A quick article on it can be found here. Basically, if you plan on using Windows 7's XP Mode, you'll need the SU7300.
-
What are the other primary differences between these two CPUs I ask you tech smart folks? I would really like to know, are they roughly the same? What are the benefits (besides Intel VT).
Thanksya! -
I haven't cancelled my order either!
-
Other than Intel VT, there is roughly a 5% increase in performance with the SU7300 before overclocking. With overclocking, however, we have no idea what the performance difference will be. The SU7300 might overclock a lot better than the SU4100 or vice-versa.
Oh, and you get a different sticker on your laptop.
-
with stackable coupons it was the best deal to get su7300, buying now, might make sense to go with su4100
-
THATS IT?!
wow..... thought a Core2 Duo would be way better. Huh.
Guess Dell got $100 more of my money then. -
Very awesome article! I'll definitely be using this to help tweak my ssd.
So this is probably a stupid question, but are all SSDs 2.5"? I was looking on newegg and didn't see anything physically smaller or larger. I was just concerned if I bought the wrong size and it wouldn't fit into the m11x.
(this is my first laptop/netbook/notebook ever...so excited
its actually faster than my current desktop)
-
The Pentium is a dual core processor also. There's a link somewhere in this thread (it might even be on the first page, not sure) to the Intel site comparing the two processors. The difference is negligible.
Overclocking is another matter, though. What we do know is that the SU7300 overclocks extremely well. The Asus UL line ships with the SU7300 overclocked all the way to 1.73GHz and the HardwareHeaven.com review overclocked the M11x's SU7300 to 1.6GHz with only a 1 degree C increase. -
How bout that. Thanks, I completely missed that link on the first page.

it wasnt drakan....it was nagshead, he works for alienware. You actually must not have seen the post. -
No problem. I did the same thing as you: jumped at it because it said "Core 2 Duo" and didn't realize the Pentium was pretty much the same processor.
I just look at it this way: I saved more than the upgrade cost. -

I was rather pissed about some other things when I wrote that, but as far as I am aware, Americans dont usually take off the entirety of christmas/new years etc. Maybe I just live in a strange part of the U.S. but my entire family and I only get off the 25th, MAYBE early on the 24th and new years day/possibly eve. Every other day needs to be a vacation or sick day in order to be taken off.
Sorry about the cultural boundaries but I'm completely flabbergasted by 2 whole weeks off of for the new year, do the Chinese not have a single holiday the rest of the year? -
Yup only schools in the US get 1-2 weeks off. People with real / high end jobs only get maybe the 2 days before xmas and the day after.
-
Eggs Scrambled Notebook Evangelist
see, thats what I'm talking about. Is it unique that the U.S. doesn't uber-celebrate a single holiday like other countries such as apparently Vietnam and China? -
Maybe it's because my family is in the aircraft industry and have been apart of that for a long time they choose to be off work. People can work during this time for holiday pay throughout which is nice I guess. I can't speak forthe Chinese since I'm not familiar with all the holidays but maybe the manufacturing parts don't get much of any days off til new years.
I mean for Comparing American holidays like with banks for example, there's a lot of days off. Also I don't know if we know for sure if it is indeed a full two week vacation. I was just upset about the "crap" reference since this holiday is huge for my family, always has been. -
I don't think it's so much that as they really don't celebrate that many holidays like we do here in the States. I lived in S. Korea when I was a kid and Lunar New Years and Korean Thanksgiving were the two big holidays of the year. Even Christmas wasn't as big. But school went from monday to saturday (luckily I went to dod schools and not korean schools like my cousins) with only sundays off and most businesses did not shut down for minor holidays.
-
When I worked retail, there were pretty much no days off during the year because the store was open every day that the mall was.
I can't imagine if the US shut down for two weeks. I mean, people are freaking out right now if they can't go to the store for two days because of the snow; imagine if the grocery store was going to be closing for two weeks. Hell, even on Christmas when the entire country seems to close, there are stores still open. We're the country that never sleeps. -
Well we're just talking about manufacturing so I doubt retail or grocery stores are like that. Like I said my dad is in airplane manufacturing so maybe that's the type of thing that can afford some time off.
-
Ah alright, from what I got from previous posts, this was a huge holiday where the entire region sort of shuts down to celebrate.

ceolwolf you forget to mention that you also need to upgrade to windows 7 business to use windows xp mode.
Happened to just skip your mind, huh? Getting that windows xp mode is a $230 purchase, while you can instead just use vmware player. -
I have been interested by the New Z and the M11x.
My comment is for people who are wondering between those two (world best mobile gaming notebook atm) and who maybe haven't realized this (I do not intend to start a flame war and won't get into one):
For me the Z was superior to the M11x (GPU slightly inferior but CPU really strong, so overall better perf).
But in my mind the M11x would be smaller and lighter. 11inch inferior to 13inch right?
However the Z is 31.49(W)x21(D)x3.3(H) for 1.5 kg (1.64 with optional big battery).
The M11x is 28.6(W)x23.3(D)x3.27(H) for 1.99 Kg.
For less weight, and same size, you can have bigger screen, more power, more battery, and better design (in my opinion) notebook.
Also Sony screen is second to none, the raid zero SDD is amazing (on paper) and there is DVD-drive (that I personally don't need but some people like).
Don't get me wrong, I like theM11x very, very much and I appreciate AW ingeniors work...Finally mobile gaming computer with average perf!
But Sony made a better notebook for...twice the price, I think it's a fact difficult to deny (weak CPU+stonger GPU < Strong CPU + slightly weaker GPU).
Conclusion -> Price drives the decision, if you want the best go to Sony, if u want best bang for bucks go AW (wow, I never thought I would say that one day). -
Yeah the thing is though, china manufactures a ton of things so my guess is a lot of people will be taking some time off
I work in a cellphone warehouse and we import so much stuff in from china and they take care of a lot of things that used to be done over here too..
-
COMPLETELY incorrect for gaming
-
It didn't really skip my mind. The phrase "Windows 7's XP Mode" doesn't really tell you what it is so I assumed if you knew of it, you knew it was only for certain versions of Windows 7 (Professional and Ultimate, specifically).
Also if you already have Professional or Ultimate it's only an additional $90/$100. But I know that if I wanted to run XP Mode, I would want to know that the SU4100 doesn't support it. -
Lol hehe and it's nice so many things can off load a lot of work over to the gpu. The HH review showed us that. Made up for any short comings I was afraid of because other than gaming and HD movies I'm fine with the CPU.
-
Mate, like I've said before, its in the business section of the Vaio catalogue for a reason. It lacks one very essential point when compared to the m11x. It just isn't built to game. Push it and see what happens. The heat levels would spike.
