call 800-283-2210, choose option 3, option 2, option 1, option 1. It'll ask you for your order number, give it, and youll get better status updates.

Mine's in pre production, I ordered on 2/2. It'd be great if someone who ordered like from the gizmodo link or real early 2/2 AM could see what their status is.

Pre-production is bad, its rare and it means they dont have the parts together so theyre waiting for more stock. I predict we really are getting our lappies in march :( darned pre-orders masking as actual orders!

    No need to insult me.

Height and deepness are similar, it s only less wide by 2 cms...

You get a 11inch screen for a big 12 inch notebook.
It's 400 grms more than a new Sony Z with optionnal hi-capacity battery.

+500 grms is a lot more annoying than 2 cms imo.

If I waited until atleast March 20th would I have a clue when the soft touch one would come out? I'd rather have it than the fingerprint magnet. >_>

It said mine's in pre-production, too. But my order just processed last night so who knows. My Dell resolution specialist is really nice so I'll ask him the next time he calls; maybe he'll know or be able to find out any information on the status of the M11x in general.

DO you guys think the m11x is portable?

We see below that the m11x is thicker, heavier and occupies 18.6% more more volume than a 13" Asus UL30VT and 69.9% more volume than a Lenovo X200. It's a thick product.

    11.6" m11x weighs 2.0kgs with a 8-cell. 28.6x23.3x3.27=2179.06cm^3
    12.1" Lenovo X200 weights 1.62kgs with a 9-cell. 29.5x21.0x2.07=1282.37cm^3
    13" Asus UL30VT weights 1.7kgs with a 8-cell. 32.2x23.2x2.46=1837.72cm^3

Does it's relatively bulky chassis and portly weight with a small LCD grant it a portable tag? The X200 looks like a midget next to it.

I don't speak for everyone here, not by a long shot but I will say that my current tablet is an HP TX2120US and it is 12.05 x 8.82 x 1.23 with a 6 cell battery, so the dimensions of the M11x aren't going to faze me a bit!

Luckily im not getting a new laptop till my birthday in september, so ill get to see the updates this thing has in the future, but you guys enjoy your purchases ;) hopefully ill get enough money from my summer job to finally build a desktop as well.

by the way this laptop probably has the best power to battery life ratio, laptops with the i5s and the 330M graphics chips will only last about 4 hours max i would say and are a fair bit more expensive. I dont know why more laptops have switchable graphics, oh well.

I have one of those too. The thing runs hot and loud, thanks to the power hungry AMD Dual X2 (Z82).

Not seeing how the M11x will be as chunky and awkward as the TX2000 series.

Chunky it may be but it's still relatively small.
Only reason it's a little thick is probably to control temps, it has 1 big fan on the bottom to push air out the back.
    More space= cooler temps.
And yes it's very portable it may not be perfect but it's performance potential outweighs any of it's negatives, to me anyway

The whole point of the 7300 is for the battery to last longer and to keep the form factor down. Different sized system, cost and segment with more powerful cpu and cheaper having the 7300 instead of the 9400 since the 7300 can be clocked to 1.6ghz with little impact to battery or heat.

ULV was the right move for size and keep the cost down, compared to an "i" series CPU.

You have the X, TT, P and other models for the "notebook in the briefcase".
The new Z has a full hd res with a GT330GPU for IT/3D modeller professional, there is a lot of companies here in Tokyo who need powerful notebook like this.
As far as I am concerned, 3D modelling softwares are pushing way more than a valve/electronic art game.
They always put gaming benchmarks in Akihabara on the notebooks which have dedicated GPU, and the benchmark is going on all the day.

Also, Sony notebook return rate is after Asus but before Dell, so this notebook should be just fine.

    For 1000 bucks you can't beat M11x, it's the best I agree ;).

But if you have 2K I would recommand the Sony, that's all. You'll have lighter notebook, bigger screen, more battery and better performance (in my opinion, let's wait review to figure this).

For 2k just get a m17x. A pro would like dat kinda power.... Right? And look on the bright side, your boss wouldn't expect you to work outside the house! Plus I don't think drawing 3D models without a mouse/trackball is very.. pleasant.

Are some of you guys REALLY REAALLY REAAAAAALLLLY being picky about the weight of the m11x compared to other light-weight systems? It's under 5lbs!

What was first... Oh the screen size, the performance vs the Z, then it was the lack of iX, then bluetooth, then the price in the UK, Canada, the coupons which stopped stacking and now... The size and weight. Proves that you can't please everyone.

I think you have this wrong. All the SU series like the su4100, 7300, 9400 and 9600 are from the same fab but are different bins. the su4100 is unique however in that it is just as similar as being a different bin but happens to have 1mb less cache and arbitrary firmware or controller edits that disable features to provide OEMs with even another option when buying bulk and managing their offerings.

Assuming I'm right (and I'm fairly sure I am), every single one of at least those four chips, if not others I haven't listed, are the same processor but when they're "binned" its the ones that have the best OC performance that are thus called the 9400 or such and are stock clocked to 1.6 or 1.7 ghz instead of 1.3ghz.

Binning is extremely common for both GPU and CPU fabs in order to make back the R&D costs by selling the same chips with different stock speeds at much higher prices. When you see the i7-920xm and the i7-820 and think to yourself "hmm, they seem to have the same TDP and cache and such, but one has a slightly higher clock and it is a $1050 upgrade? Guess that 920xm must be one heck of a chip!" you're really just paying through the nose for intel's R&D...

Not only that, but all the su chips have the same 10W TDP so even if I got that particular situation wrong, I don't really see where you're getting its going to waste more power or whatnot. Putting a SU9400 in the m11x but instead putting a bios underclock option to 1.3ghz would be exactly what youd be getting with the su7300 but with a slightly higher quality part from the same huge printed fab block. You may even get one of the overstocked su7300s that were arbitrarily stuck in the su9400 bin to fix stock issues.

P.S.: anyone who knows more about this feel free to chime in and tell me where I'm wrong.

    Holding a 17" 4kg laptop so.. I don't need to say much right? I am scared to handle a 6-7kg (m17x) so I'm opting for the 2kg one :p
Oh, and I carry it literally everywhere. If I have 4 class a day, I open it up every single one. Else I'll sleep.

Back at the soft touch topic. Darkhan thanks for tempting us, but the true question that should stem is, will there be more discount by that time =p

Actually it must be the size of an SSD and expand itself within a millisecond to full size. And as a option, thrusters to keep the device afloat an inch from the table to allow for airflow to the hydro-coolers. OC-able up to 250% of the original processor and GPU speed. Wahahahaha. Me is most reason-able man in planit earg.

    hehe, that's a good point ;).

My M17x was amazing, I loved it until I went on business trip during a month... At the beginning I didn't mind, then I found a LG P310, which can maximize almost most games for 1.6kg. Sold the M17x to a forum member...

Anyway the only problem my LG has, is the battery, no hybrid...that's why I want the M11x which might be even better than the LG...or the Sony ;).

We need reviews now  ...

"embedded: meaning soldered to the mobo like most SU**** CPU's are.
I think upgrading to a better more powerful SU CPU might be out of the question.
Most laptops that use these CPU's almost always have them soldered on.

but the 9300 is the only one that says embedded. What does a yes or no value in that chart mean if it doesnt mean soldered to the mobo? Is it just that the others can also be soldered to the mobo but dont need to be?
