ETA is par for the course. Mine is 3/8/2010. Hopefully they get on the ball and get these things built sooner than later. In the past with the laptops and monitors I bought from Dell, they always arrived much sooner than the estimated date. I'm sure they use worse case scenario.
-
Geez, I never said it would replace the quadro platform from a pro modeler.
I said it was designed to use powerful softwares on the go and there is no reason to think it's going to catch fire when playing game. -
I think SONY and some other laptop maker(sorry can't remember exactly who else) do not solder some of the SU cpu's in some of the models.
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure upgrading will be out of the picture and not a option with the M11x.
I would just get the SU7300 for an extra $100.
I't seems like a good overclocking CPU not sure how well the SU4100 will be able to handle it. -
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
Hahaha fasho, i just notice your config 160gb is 7200rpm i thought it was 5400? -

I read several places in this or the other thread the su4100 is supposed to OC better because of the less cache. Somehow less cache means a better overclock. Not me who said it but it'd be awesome if true -
We wont know for sure until members start getting in there units and start testing.
I'm just going by how well the SU7300 OC's in the ASUS UL30T,I have not seen anything about OCing the SU4100 anywhere. -
Wish Darkhan would let us know if we are getting these before March or not
-
Yeah, sure, because I said you could replace the main quadro desktop plateform from a CAD team by a Sony Vaio Z...
It's a good notebook for heavy duty software on the go and it will support the load of a FPS game without a problem
-
I'm sure they're trying, the actual production would be out of Darkhan's hands :s He'd know more about development than mass production/supply chain lol

The way I understand it, quadros are just geforces with an opengl friendly driver, giving better performance in opengl than dx9 in the same card.
So the latest and greatest geforce will be much better and much lower priced than a quadro of last year's model.
The quadro prices are outlandish because they know they can exploit businesses more than the average gaming consumer. The way I see it is a higher geforce is a better value... -
just ordered my m11x!
i did get 8 gigs of ram does anyone think it will make a difference in gaming?
tell me what you guys think!!

I didn't say it would catch fire, but it would heat up a lot. I know cause Vaio's aren't built with that kind of heavy cooling that is needed by the parts when under load ergo when gaming.
-
Nice specs, but I definitely do not think 8 gigs will do anything, I would have done the SSD if you were looking at spending another 350ish.
-
8GB isn't needed. I've never ran out of ram on my desktop while gaming with 4GB.
-
It depends on the Vaio model, and you didn't see the new Z right?
What I know for sure, it wasn't artic silver 5 on my M17x cpu when I replaced it, that's the same thing that any builder put in any notebook
.
All the inside was made of iron, surronding the hot components...Which explains the heavier weight than competition (heavier than clevo
)...
But the fans with intake were very nice (they better be, to cool the iron).
Funny thing, the M11x is 2 kilos, I bet the inside is made of iron(It's my bet, feel free to disagree). That would explain the +500 grms.
Not saying Sony is better, let's wait the review to know that's all
-
I did. And the overall design of the chassis has not changed. There's just not enough cooling. Dell doesn't use iron for its chassis, its a magnesium alloy. If they used iron, we all would have a hard time. If the machine didn't break our backs, the rust would break the machine.
-
Okay i need help! I am attempting to order my M11x on Dell right now. However no matter what address i enter into the delivery address it says it's a PO box when none of the 3(home, parents, and work) are PO boxes!!! !!???! Any help please?!
-
I'll put it this way: I'm still gaming on 2 gigs of RAM without a single problem. 8 gigs is by far overkill (expensive overkill at that) unless you run a lot of RAM intensive apps.
I'd recommend cancelling, and re-ordering but with 4GB of RAM and perhaps an SSD instead. A solid state drive will make a very big difference where loading times are concerned. -
Sorry for double post, wouldn't let me edit my last post
Didn't notice that you ordered with SSD. Just reorder with 4 gigs of RAM and save some money
-
The frame is in magnesium alloy, this is the lightest metal possible. What is inside the M17x is a complete different story.
Edit: I am wrong on that one, magnesium inside and aluminium in frame. -
Wonders why nata is still rattling on... Owh well... I'm just waiting for my boss to tell me whether I can get the m11x or not.
-
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
Who's your boss? lol your wife? haha jk -
The boss at the store I'm working at. He's contacted Dell Malaysia but they have yet to reply him. Btw, I'm 18. Nowhere near to getting married.
-
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
Haha oh okay I just thought you were joking around...I just need to wait for my paychecks to come in to get one. -
Its alright. No one takes me seriously anyway. Wish my boss would like push the Dell people for a reply, but that's asking a bit too much I guess.
-
lol no wurries evilcorsair, to be honest im prolly not going to change it to 4 gigs haha. the reason why im getting 8 is because i do intend on overclocking the cpu to 1.6 maybe more if i find out how, so it will have a higher bandwidth when im playing cpu intensive games for example supreme commander 1 and 2. i may be wrong but thats the excuse i gave myself lol
-
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
Oh and I thought you were older, a lot of people on here are old..haha I just turned 20 two week. -
Heh, its not going to give more bandwith.. Bandwith has nothing to do with RAM size, at 4 GB you will get the same performance.
HOWEVER, I went with the Core2Duo so I can say its a modern pc more or less (Branding) and if you want to go with 8GB because its Cool and people will be impressed its your perogative -
I just got my driver's license a year ago mate. Legally allowed to consume alcohol just 4 months ago. And like I said, no one takes me seriously.
-
More importantly look at the type of socket supported. All say BGA which mean Ball Grid Array. The only way to mount a BGA chip is to solder it.
-
You're making a really expensive mistake with that assumption. I would highly, highly, highly recommend putting the money into the SSD, that would make a FAR bigger difference in games like supreme commander.
RAM doesn't change your bandwidth in the slightest. More or less, you have the same. The only thing that changes is how much data can be loaded, and you wont even get close to 4GB, never mind 6 or 8.
SSD, man. Trust me. -
nickbarbs and zlog thank you very much for your advice i am now considering changing the order to 4 gigs i did order a sdd but it is a lil difficult to find on the list there. do you guys think ill have an issue playing rts games?
-
If you have that much dough, donate to Haiti? Lol....
-
absolutely not.
and EVEN IF you SOMEHOW eventually needed more then 4GB, you certainly wouldn't need more then 6GB, and adding that later on via a single 4GB module to replace one of the 2GB chips will be far less expensive. You could buy several games with the money you save.
Even if the money isn't an issue for you, it wont benefit you in the slightest to have 8GB. -
I'm in pre-production.. ARGH...
-
I'm in "Not yet ordered". Moar ARGH!
-
ok so this mr. alienware reppy dude comes in here telling us a new verison of the casing is coming out within 2 months of the first version having been released...now wheres the logic behind something like that? i doubt people would buy another one just for the casing...should we believe this dude..damn now i dont know whether to wait or not blahhh
-
Sorry about that Nuke.. And I take you seriously.
-
Uh? lol. Rofl. Please don't. It never ends well. LOL! Going to try to bug my boss...
-
Actually, this darkhan fella is a reliable source in these parts so I would trust what he says.
-
What do you think? Should I order now or wait it out..what are you planning on doing?
-
word.. he was the first to call the 2/2/10 official release date
is the soft touch really worth waiting for? I mean unless it will ship as soon as the ones ordered now then I guess but we're already waiting a long time. I guess I just need mine sooner rather than later and a different paint feel does not warrant the wait at all =) -
Argh.. The order that I placed with the Gizmodo link has somehow been confirmed.
So now, I have 2 M11X coming to me. They better let me cancel it. :-( -
Ok my question is should I upgrade to this from a LGp310 with a 96oomgt 2.53 2 core duo 4 gb of ram and 250gb ssd to the alienware.
Will there be a substanshal performance differance?
The LGp310 is about the same weight too. yes its a 13 inch but what i need to know is what will the performance differance be like? -
Guys, I would not wait for the soft touch case. I only told you so in case you really loved the cover on the M17 you would be aware of the new cover coming for the M11X.
It is really not that big of a deal in my opinion. -
According to the rest of the members on here you are a trusted source so I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt and say thanks for the info. I have just a couple more questions: what type of material is the current casing? Is it like most HPs, plastic and attracts finger prints fairly easily? And how about the new casing..what can I compare that one to to get an idea of the material?
-
I don't think it's new casing... it's just different paint!!!!!
-
Correct!!
The M11X in black will show some fingerprints, but no where near as bad as a glossy HP model or similar does.
The material is same as the M15X. -
All the orders are in pre-production, since this was a pre-order phase and most will probably not even start being made until the last week of February. World-wide launch suggests they have plenty of components and their marketing were already expecting the device to sell well.
If you go to the main screen for your order, it should show "in production".
Long few weeks ahead for most, but I still think they will soft start shipments before running at full throttle, so some may see units in Febraury.
