    Hey wonderful Alienware man.

Any hints on when we can expect the M11X to start shipping? Are they all being produced in Asia and thus subject to the lunar new year delay?

I think the question on everyones mind is "Are those March dates for real?" or perhaps just a preemptive measure by Dell and Alienware to insure they have enough time.

Darkhan, perhaps you could shed some light on the disparity of quoted delivery dates for UK and US customers? Word on the street is you're a great AW sage ;)

*edit* lol @ Yodagonemad's post and mine, great minds/fools etc..

Not what I was referring to. The 7300 overclocked, is basically the 9400, but costs less- that is what I am referring to. An "i" processor would knock the price up even more. I expect the fall refresh to have the option at least, but non ULV cpu options would change the form factor.

BTW, "YES" on the R&D cost. Leading edge buyers always contribute to costs, since the cost curve is brutal until economies of scale kick in to accelerate the cost curve downward. The ULV chips like the 4100 and 7300 were the smart choice due to this. Lower cost, but still good performance with overclocking.

They will start shipping first of March. CNY will not have any affect on the delivery dates.

More RAM does not translate to better gaming, that's just overkill and a big waste of $$$ if you just got it to get more FPS in games.
    4GB's is enough.

The ETA on the website for now is correct.

Darkhan, seems you have this information for the USA market - the UK market seems ready to ship by mid/end of Feb - My EDD is 2/24.

Can you just clarify, the new SOFT CASE - are early adopters going to get screwed with this - is this the Case that the laptop will be delivered in much like the m17x (the cloth) or is this actual hard material that is the laptop.

I really do want a soft case!

I have no idea on the UK delivery times. The soft case is just a thick rubber like paint. It was nice on the M17 but for me it is not worth waiting for, I asked about a release date for it, and so far it is still being tested on the 11X (peeling or any other defects) So I can tell you that yes it is coming but I have no idea on when?

ahhhh Gotcha. I thought it was the actual cloth "case" that the computer is delivered in.

I definitely don't want that anyway, I'm more interested in a hard case.

...maybe its the low price of entry, but I am surprised that so many people are pulling the trigger on the M11x with all the outstanding issues on the M15x, M17x and M17x R2.

Why are you so surprised? this is a single GPU low voltage machine.. not advertised as a game dominator but adequate.. They're going to have to try real hard to botch this one up. It's not high performance in the same way as the m17x and m15x so I'm fairly confident it won't have any of the similar issues (knock on wood.)

Besides, that's nothing compared to Mandrake and 5150Joker who have pulled the trigger on top spec M17x.. The risk with buying the M11x is just not as high. Low price of entry is HUGE. And whatever you say about Dell, risk is always low because they stand behind their product and offer good support, generally speaking.

Heads up - If you originally ordered your M11x on Monday before it was officially on the site, and had to reorder, the order may actually have gone through last night.

I originally received an email from Dell with a purchase ID but no order ID, and just last night received the order ID - which I had to cancel since I already ordered another one.

Thanks for the link. And considering the review, they call it "wallet busting" because they quote a starting price of $1195.55. This is obviously completely wrong too. At that price it would have had a niche market, but with a $799 starting price, with opportunities typically for probably about $100 in discounts, it'll be a decent seller. Not to mention that they may reduce the price in several months by $50-$100.

Just had this happen to me. My first order had my money come out through Dell directly but my second one (the one I wanted) is through Paypal so it isn't out of my bank account yet. Surprise surprise when I woke up this morning to find DELL ITSELF withdrew $1100 from my bank account. I called them up and they returned it, so it's sitting in there for whenever Paypal decides to withdraw it.

Im curious how were you able to order by Paypal with your attached bank account. I tried to and it told me that the transaction requires an immediate payment such as funds in the Paypal account or an attached CC (neither of which I have, I only have a bank account attached).

I think it's because I have both my bank account and the card that accompanies it linked to Paypal. Either way, my Paypal money to Dell is still showing as "Pending" after three days, but Dell says my M11x is in Pre-Production, so who knows? The money is still sitting my bank account for whenever Paypal decides to send it to Dell.

I'm reading this thread too much. I'm getting uncertain again about my harddisk choice. Is there a camp of ppl here who prefer configuring it for the SSD rather than buying one and install it later? (will it actually become significantly cheaper?)

And those who changed their order, do you have to go through the whole process again? What happen to the $100 coupon then?

I've been researching this and there seem to be a couple of problems that people still have. The Ubuntu forums are saying that Ubuntu runs better in VirtualBox than it does natively but that's because of a bug with the Core i5s. I wonder how well it will run on the SU7300...

Does anyone know if you can tell it which GPU to use in the BIOS instead of using the fn+F6 command?

Yes it's true. You can see them here (in an awesome blue light).

I chose to buy a HDD after and install it rather than upgrade it in the config. I just didn't like Dell's HDD upgrade prices and I have a few drives floating around that I could use. The SSD drives are supposedly going to drop in price sometime this year, though.

In regards to your second set of questions: Yes you do have to go through the process again and you will most likely lose your $100 off coupon.

Seriously, Give them a call, and

    a) RMA the first one, you can wait a few extra days to get that extra 404 GB, and you can always sale it on ebay if you don't need it.

    b) See if they can add it to your existing order.

Intel & Micron have announced production of 25nm flash cells. Currently flash cells are at 34nm. Smaller flash cells equals bigger SSD capacities for lower prices.

In addition Indilinx and Intel next generation SSD controllers are coming out later this year. For those who don't know, Indilinx's current product, the "Barefoot" controller was the first viable competitor to Intel.

Companies have already started clearing out old inventories on current generation, so there will be a lot of great deals to be had in the coming months!
