No this samsung ssd is a lot fast 260 mbs write and the usual read 70mbs. This second generation one comes with trim and a lot better. I am really stuck between this and a M17x I kinda don't feel like spending 2,200 again but i have never had dual graphics card.
-
I moved from 3/4 to 3/3 lol...
-
I'm sure its safe to assume the SSD that comes in the m11x is the same as the XPS 1645... I'll see if I can get some one in the XPS 16 throttle thread that has an SSD to give us the stats on it.

-
Yeah I moved from 3/8 to 3/4 lets hope I move up some more.

I also called the 24hr 800-283-2210 line for the update. My order status online still says 3/4. -
Edit: Oh is that the automated status checker number? -
EDIT: IT's the one someone posted a couple thousand pages ago where you have to pick option 3, then 2, then 1 and finally 1 -
Edit: nevermind, I found it.800-283-2210
-
800-283-2210 is the one I used. I just called again and the date is 3/3. Its dell financial services with different extensions.

Oh wow mine moved up to the 3rd, too! This is great!

I appreciate that the SU 4100 and 7300 are "similar", but the missing SSE instruction set is used by a lot of the more demanding game emulators and does make a difference for speed. The older console systems are not an issue, but the systems from the 90's use the SSE instruction sets in the Windows emulators.
-
-
we know that both CPUs overclock, but we also know from other systems that the SU7300 can be pushed to 2GHz and in some cases even higher.
If (more like when) that is figured out on this system, the SU7300 will be worth it to the people who want to take advantage of that. Its very possible the SU4100 will OC the same or perhaps even better when it comes to manually OCing it through 3rd party software, but we at least have some evidence as to the SU7300 being able to.
TL;DR: If you want to manually OC and you're pre-ordering, the SU7300 has the best odds if/when it becomes possible. -

something about the sse4 instruction set aint there, but im not gonna say anything about emulator speed based on it, that will have to be something to be figured out after we get our machines.
I have a quad core and it doesn't run dolphin very well, plus im sure with most other older systems they will run well on an m11x, they really dont require that much processing power. dunno about mame, but i know things like snes and gba and the like run very well on crappy cpus. -
Anyways, Since this thread is going to get CTRL-ALT-DEL as soon as people actually start getting these systems, what are REALISTIC features you would have enjoyed the option of having on this system? If you say anything about different CPUs to this question, I swear I WILL FIND YOU.
Some things I would have liked:
-Fingerprint Logon option
-2mp webcam, it really is a huge step over 1.3mp
-Non-glossy screen option (I thing glossy looks better, but matte is my preference)
I'll leave some of my other ideas to be mentioned by other people. I know that fingerprint security isn't really something that has a place on a gaming laptop, but because of how portable this system is it would have been nice to have for quick access. I don't really like the results the facial login programs give me.
EDIT: Also, this will probably be overlooked, but @ Alienware Rep: can you give a rough time frame of when the soft touch will be available? I've seen it asked a few times but I haven't seen if you can or have a reply. -
SSE4 instruction set is in the 7300, but not the 4100. Time will tell if it truly makes a difference though. Again, assuming SU4100 users run PCSX2 and NullDC.

Perhaps this instruction set is not an issue.

I agree with you on both the camera and screen options. I would have also added multiple keyboard light zones like the M15x/M17x, lighting around the trackpad, and whatever else would make this laptop look like the Vegas Strip.
An S-Video out would have been nice but I know no one uses it anymore. Maybe another USB port on the headphones side? I can't really think of anything other than that...
Oh and you can buy screen protectors that turn your screen matte. They even have one for 11.6" models, although I will research the reliability of this company.
One thing I will miss is my multi-touch gestures like two-finger scrolling. I wish they would have included something like that. -

If you want to know what my perfect laptop is, it boils down to the m11x along with these key features:
*1400x900 res
*3 keyboard light zones
*matte, thinkpad-like lid
*matte screen
*4 ram slots
*optional slice battery
*magnetic power adapter design
*extra sata connector and caddy for dual 1.8" drives, given even if you dont get dual HDD to start
*esata/usb 2.0 combo slot
*expresscard slot (for usb 3.0 and other things)
*expresscard-sized IR remote with ir sensor
*removable wacom digitizer overlay
*convertible tablet hinge design
*removable cpu design with future-proof socket (for possible upgrade to i7 ulv if desired)
*retractable covers for the alienware logo and alienware head for business meetings or using it as a work laptop
I'm sure I could think of more to make it even more perfect but if it had this much, that's perfection right there. I know some of what I listed is unreasonable but that's why I said this would be the perfect design. -

ceolwolf, please be sure if you get a matte screen protector to write up a quick review and post some pics. I'd really appreciate it (assuming I'm still following the thread in a month)

DR650SE is in Iraq so there might be a very big difference.

I ordered lastnight due to complications with a giftcard issue and I'm at an APO. Shipping takes a while to get out here when the military takes over the transport from New York to the middle east. Last time I ordered the M17X, I ordered on black friday in Nov, with an ETA of 16Jan10 and got the laptop a month earlier. We'll see if thats the case. What is the earliest ship date thus far?
-
I think someone has 3/1.

It would be nice to see a matte screen on this machine and also a battery slice to be a true ultraportable and also a true competior to the Asus Ul80 etc.. series.

Unfortunately...It's STILL 'Work in progress' ARGHHHH I'm going to start raging at Dell soon. ¬_¬ -

EDIT: Any discount would do since my boss can't get a retail supply price for the system. -
