Lol, would be nice to strut into the store and place it next to the acers. XP. Boss reckons 2 to 3 weeks too. 14 business days. So no difference.

What kind of bag is everyone planning on using? I spent all night narrowing it down to these three:
http://www.trust.com/products/product.aspx?artnr=15909
http://www.speckproducts.com/products/portpack-shoulder-bag/notebooks-up-to-15/172
http://www.caselogic.com/e_sling_large/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=125396
The speck is my favorite but I don't think it is roomy enough to fit some of my text books. My database book for example is 1.75" thick. I just want a bag with enough room for 1 book (whatever class I'm headed to), a small notebook, small mouse, a/c charger, and of course the m11x. Think I'm leaning towards the case logic bag because it is about 2 inches deeper than the speck. If anyone has any info on the trust bag let me know...I can't seem to find too many reviews and no good comparison pictures for size.
Edit:
Nuke, lmao...haha I like the sig. I'm doing the same thing. Doesn't look like we're getting much work done for the rest of the month. -
those Acer netbooks?
2-3 weeks should be the normal waiting period for Malaysia orders. the long waiting is killing me though.
@SilverJester:
Alienware's own Orion backpack? should be spacious enough for the M11x and your textbooks. -
Not sure bag wise but as a lappie sleeve,I'm planning to get this: http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/bags/a8e3/
LOL XD -
Yea the 1810s and the apsire ones. Would totally dwarf those poor chaps. Orion? Have an old Targus that came with my sold off Studio 15 which fit just nicely inside, if not barely so I don't need another bag. But another one would be a plus
-
Yeah but I'm looking for the smallest bag I can get away with. Also I want a shoulder/messenger style bag, not a back pack. Although that Sleeve is pretty hilarious, almost makes me want to get one.
-
Seconded, that sleeve is 1337ness. XP If I do get a backpack, I'm going to need it to carry at least a textbook or two.
Don't want those messenger bags, since I'm not exactly a big person so the bags make me look like a dwarf with a giant's pouch.
EDIT: High Five silver! Actually, I'm temping at a tech store, so a little tech forum prowling can be easily labeled as self-enlightenment.

Get a razer 15" laptop sleeve

Freedom is correct. Dell is using the "newer" gen of Samsung drives and although still not as fast as the Intel ones, still very good. Check this review out and the comparisons. Seems to be faster than everything else on these comparisons except the Intels in almost all cases but still close. I posted this awhile back but since this thread seems to be about repeating itself.. here we go again =D
Samsung 256GB SSD comparison review
---
silverjester - I like the first one from Trust a lot, too bad it doesn't look like it's available in the US. -
the M11x is not exactly a netbook but the screen size do make it looks like one. still yet to get the replacement for my torn Targus from Dell. maybe you should ask for discounts and a backpack when ordering on Monday?
have no experience with messenger bags but isn't 2kilos a bit too heavy for the shoulder? been using a backpack all these while. my old Inspiron is 2.8kg and carrying it for long periods do strain my back. -
The m11x doesn't come with a backpack option. T_T I'm going to haggle for lotsa stuff, if no backpack, then I haggle for a mouse.
-
Well this is some thread. Only found out that I could order this yesterday (UK ) and spoke to Dell directly. Sales rep gave a lot of info which on reflection reading all 160+ pages wasn't strictly accurate but at least I've been able to make an informed decision. Originally was going for 7300 and SSD but now 4100 and 500GB normal so saved quite a bit of a cash.
However I would like to get an external optical drive. So Dell sent me a link for one of theirs
http://search.euro.dell.com/results...kdhs1&k=external+optical+drive&cat=all&ref=ac
at £60. My question is am I limited to this or will any external drive do (recomendations gratefully accepted) and before you ask I am aware that Steam etc gets around this but I have a lot of legacy games which I don'y want to faff about converting into ISos etc.. -
AW might come out with one like in few months time? i was offered free backpack/mouse (did not ask on the brand & specs, TactX perhaps?) or cash discounts and i chose the latter.
i believe any external optical drives will do. you can get 'em off ebay or retailers which may cost much lesser than what Dell quoted. -
Thanks for the info on the drive
-
Actually I can get a G500 for about RM219 anyway but the TactX mouse is a modded G9 I think? Cash discounts me want too. lol.
-
what sleeves do you think is the best for the m11x i was thinking of the belkin sleeve im from UK
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Neop...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1265465315&sr=8-1 -
Thanks for the link.
Now if I order the SSD I won't feel to ripped off .
Man this thread has blown up but it should be called " soon to be owners lounge" i'm guessing part 3 will start as soon as members start getting there laptops. -
Is it just me or is it a real pain in the to actually find the right numbers and get through to the right people when you call Dell? =_=
-
FYI I've done some research into anyone looking for an optical drive. The Samsung SE-S084C gets a lot of good press, relatively new and good mark on testfreaks. I can pick this up for £34 + p&p so this is nearly 50% better than Dells recommended option
-
Huh, I didn't even notice that it was only in the UK. Well I guess that narrows it down for me.
-
would the m11x be able to play empire total war on max settings, even on 1080p out? or is this wishful thinking? Also napoleon total war as well. i just cant seem to figure out what you need to run it at max, min yes , but max no.
thanks! -
I believe it can only do 720P out not 1080P?
-
HDMI can support 1080p. Not sure if Total War is high CPU usage like Supreme Commander though.
It sure would be nice if someone here got an early sample one and could do some benchmarks.
Check out this review of the Eee 1201N, except it includes the Asus UL80Vt in the benchmarks which has the SU7300 and G210M GPU. The CPU is at stock 1.3GHz, and GPU is much underpowered compared with the GTX 335M.

MIne still shows processing
had to cancel my order on 1st day and place another on the 2nd start of order date to add bluetooth
-
I ordered mine on the 3rd, which was the second or third day of release. There might be a hold-up with your credit card, as "processing" means they're processing the payment.
-
Mine's stuck in "work in progress purgatory."
-
hmmm would you have not been better to have gone for the SU7300 and the 320GB HD didnt think there was much in it, as you can always upgrade even to ssd afterwards but your stuck with the cpu, just a thought, as it took me awhile to work it all out ,
p.s what date did you get for del mine was 25th FEB
p.p.s sorry didnt mean to throw spanner in the works just thought id point out the options
-
Mine is showing "In Production".
-
Seconded. =_=
-
mine says "In Production," too.
What was your configured spec? Mine is just the base model with 4gb ram.
-
Check the sig. Just added it. I had a hella fun time on the phone yesterday trying to squeeze all the EPP discounts and coupons out of this deal. I ended up with a 10% EPP discount, 50 dollar coupon, free next day shipping and with all the complaining I did with the hassle I had gone through I have an agent that is in contact with me that SAYS he is going to credit me some cash back for losing out on the 100 dollars by having to order on the 5th after 2 botched orders.
The should have just left the full set of configurations up for the EPP folks. They overcomplicated things by having us have to call in to downgrade some of the forced configuration. -
If you guys want to get a specific status, call 800-283-2210 and hit option 3, option 2, option 1, then option 1 and dial in your order number. It will tell you an updated estimated delivery date and something like "pre-production" or whatever.
-
Any one in the Uk got any other status than "Work in Progress"?
Cheers -
sorry to ask, I'm new here and i see that almost all of you have save big bucks on this new system and i would like to know what the $50 dollar newsletter code is, if you would be so kind.
-
what is the 50 dollar coupon code? i can really use the saved 50 on something else... plz help :C -
nope - mine still in work in progress. when did you order yours and when is your est delivery date ?
mine order on 3th and got a delivery date of 12th feb. though im skeptial ill get it then... -
Check the first post. You have to sign up for the EPP newsletter. Then you need to go and sign into the Dell EPP site with your school and customize your laptop.
-
Hi ya i orderd mine on the 2nd, and ive got a ETA of the 11th of Feb, but same as you seriously doubting this.
-
Thx a million
-
yup TactX is a modded G9.
same button, same features, same profile and microgear button on same location, same laser sensor typeface on the bottom of this mouse. just the design were slightly different.
-
Any time! Glad to see someone else is getting an M11x; we need all the users we can get so troubleshooting will be a breeze.
-
Does anyone have any official word on exact dimensions? I'm wanting to get a bag, and I've always wanted a Timbuk2. I'm torn between the Quickie and the Coder, but without knowing the computer's dimensions, I don't know which bag to get. (I want to get the smallest bag possible, so it can "dock" in my Swissgear backpack.)

I wonder how many times I'm going to have to say it. The samsung SSDs are a rip off, they arent worth the money, they arent as good as everyone seems to want you to believe.
Go ahead and don't believe me if you wish but if you knew what you were missing after getting the samsung you'd understand. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
And why aren't they good? They tend to achieve about 200 MB/s write, 220 MB/s read, use less power than any other drives, and are offered dirt cheap by dell. And oh ya, they also support TRIM now.
-
From the manual posted a couple pages back;
H: 1.29", W: 11.25", D: 9.19.
I'd love to see a collection of bags that will fit it really well posted to the first page of this thread- lets get to work searching!
-
