If anyone is interested, the Hardware heaven review admin has been doing a great job over on their forums asking questions etc.

Anyway, he said they always benchmark games in their most demanding spots as they have a "suite" of games they like to test and I guess have a place set in each game they like to benchmark at.
Also at a request of a member over there, they benchmarked Empire Total War during a more demanding scenario (battle). Lookin good:'

If anyone has a HH account (I cant register as I use hotmail) then could they do me a favour and ask if they could maybe yrt benching GTA IV. Alienware listed it allong with MW2 as one of the games that the m11x could do at 30fos but I have yet to see it benched and cant imagine how it would work on a core 2 ulv system, thanks!

My resolution specialist just called to let me know he gave me free overnight and he added that he thinks "...it should ship much, much earlier than the estimated date." Good news?

Great news! I'll add that to the "Only the SU7300 will overclock" Dell specialist golden nugget list.

It would be nice no question about it but I highly doubt it

I tend to think that m11x could be an "iPhone phenomenon" where people either love or hate, but there is no denial that's it has an ultimate combination of battery life, performance and portability!

    whats a "resolution specialist" ??

this is good news indeed as it ties up with our UK estimated date of THIS WEEK. i have been highly doubting this though as its still in pre-production stage :( however my rep said today again that my estimated date of 12/2 still stands....

If I don't find anything better I might buy the M11x, even finding it a little unbalanced in the CPU power X GPU power... is that a problem? Do I have to love it and adore it in every aspect to post in this thread?

more appropriate in terms of gaming? heh maybe if we wanted to achieve uber results. No in terms of battery life or cost I'm sure. I think many of us know although this is a gaming line computer, it's gaming in a very compact form factor, hence an i5 may not be appropriate for this in all-around effectiveness of what this computer is made to do. Why do you think they gave us Intel 4500HD graphics? So we can use this for other things to get better battery life, i5 will defeat that purpose. Now if it were an i5 ULV, maybe a different story.

The last computer I tried to hook up on tv with HDMI was 4 years ago. At the time, I need to use an extra audio cable in order to transfer sound from my computer to tv.
Has it change now? can I just use one single hdmi cable to transfer both audio and video?

Like this one in dell shop:
    http://accessories.dell.com/sna/pro...l.aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=dhs&cs=cadhs1&sku=A0936254

would this single cable do the trick with m11x?

    thank you.

actually core i5 chipset + cpu consumes the same as C2D chipset + CPU. I believe the Dell choice was based on CPU + chipset price than in the power consuption. that way they kept M11x in the 899 price tag.

    Power Consumption
    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/mobile-core-i5-arrandale,2522-11.html

"Although the 35W Core i5-540M clearly uses more power under load, it also dips well under the Core 2 Duo P8700 during Vantage’s down-time, despite the load/idle numbers above.

When you even out all of the peaks and valleys, you get 32.9W average power consumption for the Arrandale processor and 31.7W for the Penryn-based Core 2 Duo. When we factor in the fact that the Core i5-540M system finished the test 2:26 faster than the Core 2 Duo, dropping back to idle as the other machine completed its workload, we’re able to conclude that there’s finally evidence of Nehalem-based processors outdoing Core 2 when it comes to overall power consumption. The performance story tells itself. Arrandale is clearly the quicker chip, too."

    gs45 = 13w + SU7300 10w = 23w
    serie 5 chipset = 3.5w + core i5-520um 18w = 21.5w

That's fine, but I think most people here don't want to hear something over and over that they already know. Personally, I want to go to this thread to find out about shipping status and hopefully some more reviews and maybe some comparison if it's fair one. However, I don't particular want to see gazillion of posts comparing some 14" laptop with lame battery life to this one. At some point it just gets annoying.

i wonder what is the performance different between core i5 at 2.26ghz
    vs 1.73ghz su7300..
will core i5 have like 30 % advantage? or more ?40%?

it's apples and oranges, if you want power go with i5, if you want battery life then it's su7300. 10 watt vs 35 watt

I cant believe I have taken the time to read through part1 and part2 about this kick-butt machine. I pulled the trigger on the 4th using some coupon codes and a 10% discount though my work for Dell products. Mine says still in prod but 3/5/10 send date. Thanks for all of the good links for bags, external dvd/bd, and other accessories. This is my 1st Alienware product, but I still own 3 dells going back to 1999 and all are still running without any major issues except this one I am just using for limited windsurfing. <--Dell Optiplex Gx1 running win98 with a updated user hack so trust me its no web surfing.

    Cant wait!!! :D

We should give the people comparing the samsung notebook a break. They have a valid point in comparing the two laptops and help people make an informed decision on which mobile gaming notebook is best for us.

Lets face it when it comes to buying a notebook it's all about trade offs. Everyone has different priorities. The m15x is fantastic but it's large and heavy (and pricey). Size, portability, performance, build quality, temperature, screen quality.. all of these things are important to all of us, and frankly i wouldn't have even found out about the Samsung unless it was posted in this thread, and for that i thank the posters.

if its a newer tv or receiver you should be able to just use the HDMI cable for audio and video. for the sound you might have to go into the audio settings and change the output device though.

I'm like half way through it and since this is now my new main computer hoping I can play it and complete it! If not it'll sit around for awhile until I feel like getting a new rig after the M11x..

I guess some people just got annoyed because the posters/trolls slam it on their face, or at least feel like they do. Comparisons are good, but this thread is mostly filled with people deciding to buy or have pre-ordered, and having 200+ pages, there has been a lot of posts that's been repeated A LOT, and trolls love repeating some of those posts :)

That's also why I got annoyed at some posters who mean well by discussing and posting - there's just too much unnecessary and repetitive posts in this thread that it turns off people who could use the information from reading through the pages.

It would be nice if the main info gets combined into like a user's guide, but in the process of these 'discussions', there's undesirable intentions thrown in to the mix :s

Actually this is the ONLY M11x thread, the other ones were all stopped because of this one. And in fact, right now, there's no M11x owner cause no one received it's unit yet. Yes, you already paid for it but the discussion going here has nothing of "owner"... if there was an owner we would have benchmarks everywhere, and we have nothing. So, I think my comparative was appropriate for helping undecided people choose what to buy. I didn't had any intention in ofending anyone. Like I said, i'm still unsure in what i'm buying, the M11x is certainly an option, otherwise I wouldn't be following this thread daily.

Folks, I'm going to post this one last time.

If I or any other mod need to come in here and deal with troll posts, flame posts or pure nonsense/one liner posts, someone is going to take a long vacation.

Going forward, I want to see posts related specifically to the M11x and all order related posts are to be made in the Order Status thread.

Random chit chat posts or posts to discuss an aftermarket add-on or device, post it in the Side Topics area.

When posting, follow the forum rules - specifically,

    • While debating and discussion is fine, we will not tolerate rudeness, insulting posts, personal attacks or purposeless inflammatory posts. Our decision is final in these matters.
    • Please refrain from posting meaningless threads, one word (or short) nonsense posts, or the such.
    • Discussion of illegal activities such as fraud, software and music piracy and other intellectual property violations are not allowed. There is a zero tolerance policy for illegal activity being discussed.
    • Discussion on running Mac OS X on non-Apple hardware is prohibited.
    • Foul language isn't necessary to discuss notebooks and help people, so it won't be tolerated. Any attempt to bypass the bad language filters will result in an infraction against the user and that post being edited or removed. Using asterisks or any other symbol to disguise language is considered bypassing the filter.

In regards to a part 3 thread, it will be created by a member of the MOD Team when it becomes necessary. If you don't like the fact this thread is becoming hard to keep up with, then consider the nature of your post.

Any questions relating to my post, PM me or Charles P. Jefferies.

    Thanks.

I know this has been asked already, but i never saw an answer. since i'm too lazy to search back thru 260 pages... ;P

So we have an official "yes or no" whether or not the SU4100 has the overclock feature like the su7300?

..and if it doesn't, how hard would it be to do it thru like setFSB?
