Yea, I saw that, but just marked the 9400M off completely, it is like 16 pipelines, we are talking struggle to play WoW or other ancient games with a GPU like that, and you can completely count out anything recent.

I just looked up the 310 and it is 16 pipelines also, I guess you were not looking at it for games?

That's unlikely to hit the 13" MacBook Pro's

And yeah, the MB and MBP's have pretty underwhelming GPU options until you move on up to the 17" MacBook Pro's. Right now, they have the 9400M and higher options have a dual 9400M + 9600M

My guess is that the 13" MacBook and MacBook Pro get a i3 with a possibility of an i5-430M upgrade. The 15" one's get the i5-430M through the i7-620M and the 17's get the i7-620M through quad's.

    Graphic's wise I have no clue, but I wouldn't be surprised if the 13"-ers get a G310M or GT325M

This is Apple we are talking about after all. They're not going to put hardware that will is only found in equivalently priced PC's...

The MBP 15 on the top end spec has the dual GPU option too

You just gotta decide for yourself. The Sony will have significantly less battery life and game performance while weighing more. However, the processor will be some faster. The problem though is I don't know what tasks you will be able to do to really see the processor increase, as the GPU will hold you back from games.

The M11X is really balanced. Neither the CPU or GPU should significantly hold the other back.

Yeah I wasn't really looking at it for gaming since I have an i5 750 quad core desktop at home. I was mostly looking for 6+ hours of battery life for college. I ended up canceling my MBP order because it was stuck in limbo because the warehouse's were out of the 13" MBP's and all that was left was in the channels already and I didn't feel like paying retail since I had a at cost discount. But then the same day I canceled the MBP order I saw the m11x specs leaks and the next day the pre ordering started so I thought the m11x is the best of both worlds. Has 6+ hours of battery life and I can play all my steam games. But I really like the build quality of the MBP's.

I see, quite a conundrum. Personally, I would go Alienware, because you never know when you might want to fire up a game on the go, but that advice is biased by my general distaste for Mac computers.

@Yoda =I just went alienware cause it was against the norm. I'm going to uni and would probably end up being "Just another Macboy" No offence to Macs, their build quality is among the best.

@fillip = In conjunction with Macworld? Hmm?

I have never owned a mac and thought it might be time to pickup my first mac(other than my iphone, if that counts lol). I really wanted to learn the OS and see how it works and all that. Plus the backlit keyboard + build quality was a huge plus for me and you can pickup the applecare 3 year warranty's for 120$ on ebay which is nice to. But looks like it didn't work out since I ordered the Alienware, unless the other specs of the MBP's are amazing tomorrow.

I know they've done more GPU stuff lately, but the iMac's have the Mobility versions IIRC. And with the trend they've had with regards to the Mac Pro, it appears that they're trying to make the iMac the standard desktop, and so they've been beefing up the iMac while minimizing the Mac Pro.

As for the GPU's... are you sure they were that recent? Remember, the 9400M and 9600M were released in 2008. The GT 1xx series in January 2009. Correct me if I'm wrong, as I don't remember the timeline, but I don't think the 9400M and 9600M were that recent when they were refreshed.

I wouldn't say significantly less game performance. If anything, keeping in mind that you are gaming on a higher res with the CW (1600 x 900), the game performance should be relatively equal to the M11X.

I actually bought this same system in white a few weeks ago. First of all, the CW looks really nice. The built quality is also pretty impressive. Since I'm pretty sure BB has the lower spec version in their local shop, go check it out for yourself.

In terms of battery, with 3-3 1/2 hr of juice when surfing the web and watching flash videos, the battery life is pretty average for a 14inch laptop.

In terms of the screen, it really sucks. If you view it straight on, it's good. If you try to view it in any other angel, prepare to be massively disappointed. On the other hand, if the WLED in the M11X is anything like the WLED used in the SXPS13, the screen on the M11X should be extremely good.

Weight wise, the CW is obviously heavier than the M11X. Of course, the M11X isn't exactly on the light side of the weight class either.

In the end, it all depends on what you want. If you think the M11X looks too flashy, go with the CW. With the white version, you have one heck of a good looking laptop. The CW is also 14 inches, as opposed to 11. Otherwise, if you are looking for a laptop with a decent sized screen (although not so great in quality), extremely good battery life, capability of watching 1080p movies via HDMI out, and the ability to play some light games, take a look at the ASUS ul30vt and ul80vt series.

If you are a game emulator fan and expect the m11x to perform well:

    1. All of the older 8bit and 16 bit ones will be fine
    2. PSX, Dreamcast and N64 will be fine
    3. PCSX2 should be okay for some games IF you have the SU7300 (needs the SSE4 instruction set to perform well)
    4. MAME. Most games will be fine, but Dead or Alive, NFL Blitz and others will be slower to unplayable. They are smooth as butter on the i3-330 and above. I know, since I have a MAME on a thumbdrive and test laptops out with it. The games I test for CPU power is DOA, Soul Calibur, NFL Blitz and Rival Schools. All four games play "perfect" on the newer i3, i4 and i7 cpu's.

I appreciate that the purpose of the M11x is to be a super gaming netbook and even an i3 would change the form factor & battery life, but thought I would but gamer expectations in perspective.

This is what I was worried about. I figured the SU7300 would be better for PCSX2 so I'm glad I got it. I never play MAME, though.

    Thanks for solidifying that.

Was the FPS taken during a high demanding section of the game, i.e. during a battle?

Yes, all our testing always involves the most demanding sections we can find.

Other than the fact that it's almost 3" larger, the graphics card is a little bit worse according to notebookcheck.net compared to the 335M. The CPU is good, though.

The size of the laptop is a big factor. A lot of people are picking up the M11x because it's so small; therefor, like filipp said, it's not really in the same class.

@freedom = the m11x is one of a kind. Unless ASUS and co release something with an 11-inch form factor with gaming pedigree (ergo engineered to game, not just a bunch of fancy specs thrown into the smallest chassis they get) that's not going to change.

i want to see a UL30 at 3.7lb with core i7 640um + geforce 325 should do the job..(325 is a lower clock 330.. should control the temp better even in a small chassis

i will rush out and get that

    Hey,

I ordered the M11X from the US site a few days ago, but it doesn't say anything about a wireless card in my order confirmation e-mail. I know it says on the site that it comes standard with a wireless card, but should I be concerned that it didn't say so on my order confirmation?

    Thanks.

Yeah i realize that it is one of a kind, nothing can be tested among the small factor of this machine, in many ways i am tempted to buy this i would love to overclock it 2 ghz and plus. But the benchmarks will tell me, i always like reviews by this site and the glorious fourm of individuals.

Long time lurker here! Yall's resources through parts 1 & 2 helped made my decision to order the M11x! Actually I've ordered a while back, 2/2, black 4gb SU7300 320gb Gobi, and in the build stage with yall!

I did talk to CS a few days after I ordered and they were going to place an internal push to expedite my order but it's still showing EDD to be 3/3 by the phone route.

What do yall think of these two cases:

I just spoke to a dell rep online, they said the SU4100 would overclock, but of course. "was not recommended." I doubt they would change the bios settings just because a different chip was ordered.

First: congrats on ordering your M11x! :D

Now regarding your question about those bags... I would definitely go with the Kroo. They seem to be a better brand overall than Mobile Edge and that bag has a nice side pocket and very good measurements to hold the M11x.

    Thank you ceolwulf.

I am very excited and, like everyone here who've ordered, anticipate the shiny black box to arrive. Can't go wrong with the M11x as a secondary computer. superb mobility and gaming.

There has been a lot of argument about how the M11x is not good enough. My opinion is if you are looking to buy your first computer, period, you should look elsewhere.

If you have a dying computer with a nice lcd or looking to add mobility to your computing away from your desktop, and you are looking to do some gaming on the side (or laying in your bed), nothing beats the M11x.

I'm part of the second group! my alienware desktop can handle the hardcore gaming while the M11x can provide the mobility and play possibly every game; just not on the highest setting with each game.

    I'll take that.

btw, I was part of the unfortunate group who ordered right when the M11x went up on the alienware website. The bluetooth option wasn't showing. I didn't catching it until 2 days later and decided not to cancel/reorder for a bluetooth module and get to the back of the line. Also I don't currently own any bluetoothware.

I've read in Part 1 that it's supposed to be just a usb type deal on the MOBO; in yall's opinion, would it be a simple internal install if I choose to do it myself later? Have yall done it with past laptops/read about installing internal bluetooth?

I have no experience in computer parts at all, btw.

it would just be easier to plug in a usb bluetooth receiver. very cheap and very small, unless you absolutely need that extra usb slot open

    hahaha, klas,

I was merely emphasizing my point with an underline. It wasn't a link :)

I would say the refreshing 13 inch macbook pros might give the M11x a run for its money, partly due to the popularity of the Apple brand compared to Alienware.

If only people knew what they were missing.... hahaha.
