@bluehaze: I think most comparisons simply need to wait until user-repeatable benchmarks can be run, at the very least until owners in this thread can give their impressions.
Until then it just seems like flamebait, or other-laptop purchase taunting, especially with the abrasive words used IMO.

actually, HK's isn't too far off from Outrageousland either.
EDIT: $1191, I pay more than that you know. -
On the subject of discussion comparing systems against other systems...
Here's the thing - NBR encourages discussion/debate. The way to do it however is not to become psycho and start firing back comments like "You have no clue what you are talking about!", "Get out of here Troll!", "Your system blows and mine is better" - things of that nature are not going to fly here. So, debate away if you like. Just keep it clean and leave the flamer comments at the door

Brendanmurphy Your Worst Nightmare
I hate dell/alienware canada...... I called to get a quote on an m11x threw epp. Upgraded the cpu and ram and left everything else stock it came to 1099$ without epp and taxes. With epp and tax it came to 1157 and he would not budge. Same thing with the m15x when i called a week ago. They would not budge no more discounts nothing free.
-
That's not too bad a deal. I got mine for RM3838 which was after haggling equal to $1194.
-
Brendan, given the amount of orders they are receiving this does not shock me. What you can do is have them save your order as a 'quote', have the quote emailed to you. In a day or so, call back into Sales and have a rep pull up your quote. Give them the quote#. Ask them if you were to order today, could they drop the price to xxx.xx amount. You supply the amount. They may do it, they may not. Doesn't hurt to call back a few times and try.
-
thanks my friend. all i can see not fair for canadians. why are we different from others. we should be able to get better pricing like others. well i just wanted to confirm thats the right price i am paying or am i paying too much for what its worth. also any other suggestion before i buy this laptop thanks all ur help guys. u rock

Yeah, don't calibrate your Li-Ion battery because it actually hurts it. Li-Ion doesn't have the "memory effect" and if you discharge your battery all the way, it deteriorates a lot faster than normal.
If you really want to, you can unplug your battery and put it in the freezer when you're not using it but to be honest, you'll never notice a difference. Batteries loose charge over time and there's really no way to get around it. Have a look at this thread for more information. If you decide to store your laptop's battery for a long period of time, drain it down to about 40% and then store it somewhere cold and use it a little bit every month. -
Okay, so I'm one of the few Canadians here apparently.
I'll post my experiences. I just recently learned about the M11X and pulled the trigger immediately on Friday. I got the RedFlagDeals.com exclusive deal with the M11X + upgraded processor + 4 GB RAM + mouse for 1099, then I added the 250GB 7200RPM drive. After taxes and whatnot the complete price to me was 1211.71.
My ETA is March 12th. -
Brendanmurphy Your Worst Nightmare
I have tried multiple times. My epp is good for 7% and they said 5% on the m15x and they quoted me 2630 for it with the 260m and the 1080p screen and the i7 720. And the rep harassed me and kept calling back. I was extremely pissed off and i eventually told him "NO". To be honest i don't think dell canada is as lenient as the us -
Brendanmurphy Your Worst Nightmare
That is not really the greatest deal
Yep its ridiculous. Us canadians always get the short end of the stick. I really wanted the m15x but the price was crazy. If i can get them down to 2200 for it i will get it but other then that no chance in hell. And almost 1200 for the m11x when people have got it for 800 or so no way -
can u post ur full system that u order. so i can compare if i am getting anything lesser then u what kind of deal u got ?

Man ... I feel old ... or at least like a bad bargain hunter. Although I'm happy to use coupon codes or sales to get a lower price on a product I've never spent hours/days trying to figure out how to save a little extra on a purchase by stacking discount codes, calling multiple phone numbers to talk to sales reps, etc.
I figure if I have to work THAT hard to save $20 or get a free $50 upgrade on my system I've probably wasted that much money in terms of the amount of man hours I spent trying to figure out a way to save a few bucks.
I just paid what the Dell website said I should pay when I placed my order for an M11x.
PS: Don't mind me, I'm just being a smarty.
-
It's the best deal that's out there that I know of. It's not as great as some of the Americans but I'm happy with what I'm getting for the price.
-
You think that Canada is bad? In China, keeping in mind that the amount of money people make is the "same" as the states (aka $3000/month here = 3000yuan/month in china), no one can afford a 6800yuan laptop. A laptop worth two month of your salary? yea, good luck with that.
-
I simply got this http://www.redflagdeals.com/deals/main.php/alldeals/comments/45709 and upgraded the HDD to 250GB. I don't really wanna post my whole order to clog up the tubes.
-
Personal exp = Techs I work with don't earn more than RM1k a month. Its 4k for the m11x here, ergo 4 months or more of wages.
-
Ay, the aussies pay 1599 when their currency is almost 1:1 with the dollar alrite, so stop whining about sticks, tubes and ends.
EDIT: Nice post threader. -
@nuke
exactly! In most Asian countries, the cost of western brand gadgets/clothing is ungodly high. -
jonjonk = I would know. I live in one of those countries.
-
@nuke
I'm Chinese, so...go ASIANS!
Anyways, if you make $3000USD/month and go live in any Asian country other than Japan, you will live like a king.
edit: except houses are extremely costly in China. 3million yuan for a condo, anyone? -
Brendanmurphy Your Worst Nightmare
But in north america we would kill to have some of the stuff from the asain countries and we pay a fortune for it to. So it works both ways -
damn, would take me like 3-4month's pay no including my basic needs for the M11x in China. Thanks for putting that in perspective.
-
Hmmm maybe i should move to China so i can live the high life? And get me an asian hotty lol.
-
u are talking about china common , we are comparing the deals between usa and canada. why usa better then canada? i don't get it .
-
Because USA has an Eagle and Canadians have a red leaf?! Haha! Im joking!
-
Brendanmurphy Your Worst Nightmare
When the dollar was at pair the prices of the laptops in canada and the us were still quite a bit more in canada. It ridiculous. I payed almost 2000 for my xps 1640 then bought 2 year onsite warranty later and im still paying it off 3 years left. For me to pay it off now they want about 2200 so i said it and was going to buy another computer. I hate dell canada they need to pair the prices in canada and the us or atleast close the gap -
lol i don't even care if u guys have eagle and we have red leaf. who care about that . i am not even canadian i just live in canada. but i don't understand why canada is always behind in deals then usa. i understand about currency but we are not even far behind then usa. so why such a big gap. well i think i will just go ahead in ordering this laptop. does this laptop come with bluetooth? it doesn't say in the specs.

steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
I'm sure a Canadian company that made a product that was in demand would cost less for Canadians then Americans, it's just how it works. If I had a family business, My family members would get discounts, whereas non family wouldn't.
It's not that America is better then anyone else, but there are benefits living here. -
thats rare bro.
-
@arsalan
seriously though, you have to make that call. If it fails, call again to find yourself a better rep. Keep on saying stuff like "i'm on the edge, if only this was $50/$100 cheaper...is there anything you can do to help me?" or "this is way too costly! The American's price is only a fraction of this!" Well, you get the picture. -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
You need to add Blue tooth in the configuration settings. -
it doesn't give me that option.
-
Brendanmurphy Your Worst Nightmare
Its included no need to add -
i would rather buy a lottery ticket and hope to get lucky on that rather then talking to different rep they honestly don't care about u at all. specially the candians reps.
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
Rare?
Sorry if I'm not making any sense, I am doped up on theraflu, and my head is about to implode. -
what about wirless card it has can i catch wireless internet?
-
Not sure about the Canada Dell, but the US Dell you do have to add the Bluetooth which is $20 to add i do believe. And Arsalan guess you didnt read the words "im joking" huh?
And Arsalan the wireless card comes default. -
thanks logon but it doesn't say that in the specs? how come anyidea.
-
Got a link to vid? I searched youtube for m11x and ssd and couldn't find anything.
Thanks -
I searched Alienware SSD and up came one vs a Samsung with 5400rpm, but I don't think it was a fair comparison but you can still see how fast the M15x booted up nevertheless. You can just look up any SSD boot ups or vs and they're fun to watch. I can't wait to experience the fun of SSD.
-
I wonder what type of battery performance can be obtained after undervolting the cpu. 7hrs would be awesome!
-
You speak of blasphemy, sir!
-
Its some crazy nice intel a/b/g/n card with a crazy high bandwidth that is limited by your router. WiFi is NOT a limiting factor with this computer
-
I was thinking, should we expect latest, working drivers installed on our systems for the 335m? I saw HH was using modded drivers, is that the same as laptopvideo2go's modded ini files? Trying to prep my installs.
The reason I ask is that I don't see any 335m official supported drivers on nvidia's site.. Actually no 300 series drivers either haha. What do the 330m PC's use? -

This isn't specific to the M11x, but it was the first demo of SSD technology that really sold me on using SSDs in notebooks.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkP8ChyAfic
Lexar/Crucial demoed their new SSDs back in 2008 by putting one of their SSDs in an industrial paint shaker and connecting it to a notebook while the paint shaker attacked the SSD.
The SSD managed to continue to send data to the notebook despite SERIOUS vibrations. What this particular video doesn't show is what happened when Lexar/Crucial demoed the paint shaker setup with a standard HDD ... the HDD failed in LESS than one second after the industrial paint shaker started while the HDD was reading a video clip off the drive.
HDDs can survive serious impacts and vibrations if they are INACTIVE, but if a HDD is actively reading/writing data and it suffers a sudden, serious jolt then it's DEAD.
Yes, SSDs are an expensive upgrade for the M11x (well, actually, expensive for ANY notebook) but SSDs offer speed and impact/vibration safety you just can't get with HDDs right now.
That said, if you don't plan to travel frequently with the M11x then a fast, high-capacity HDD gives you better bang for your bucks. Also, if you're comfortable upgrading a drive on your own you can save some cash by installing a SSD on your own. There are some cheaper 128GB and 256GB options on the market compared to the expensive 256GB SSD upgrade on the Alienware/Dell website. -
Like Alcal said it's a crazy card. I saw it listed in one of the pages last night but i do not have the patience to go back through here looking for it. I do not kno why they do not list it but it's there i promise
