Hello,
CANADA did you get any discounts if so what -
i just chat wif a dell rep. she says NO overclocking for su4100
12:48:21 quest ng 2nd, is overclock enabled for su4100 processor?
12:49:17 quest ng for su7300, from the reviews overclocking is enabled from bios mode. i hope dell wont restrict su4100 from overclocking
12:51:35 Quinn_Ooi Overlocked not enabled for SU 4100
well, a big joke. this is at least for asia pacific. not sure if its for global tho. -
12:56:56 quest ng another thing is can i change my HDD and ram my ownself? will it void my warranty?
12:57:06 quest ng i have a SDD lying in my room now
12:57:11 Quinn_Ooi it will void
........ -
Not sure why no overclocking for SU4100 as Intel spec sheet shows this as Speedstep enabled processor. Must be Dell imposing a $90 Overclocking Tax by BIOS blackmail
-
warranty automatic void if open backlid.
-
wow, changing the ram or hdd myself is going to void warranty? sigh
-
12:59:04 quest ng wat bout the battery then? the battery is build in! i nvr expect a built in battery will survive longer than 2 years
12:59:50 Quinn_Ooi it has it's own 1 year wattanty
13:00:19 quest ng Is there a switch where i can switch of my battery whenever i use my AC?
13:00:28 Quinn_Ooi yes -

Changing the hdd will not void your warranty....the reps are known to make up bs
-
The warranty for the Malaysian region might be different than the US region. I doubt the warranty is voided if you switch out parts.
-
-
so changing the ram or hdd WONT void warranty? Cause it would be much cheaper for me to upgrade those myself =)
-

I will be upgrading mine myself. Those are considered user serviceable parts

This machine seems fantastic. I really want one. I will hold on on news for a refresh a few weeks, and if nothing is hinted, I will have to bite and get one.
I'm jealous of all of you getting one and will follow this thread closely. -
-
I will just put you on my ignore list.
Jk. Thanks for the heads up. Maybe my M17x will help me relax in the mean time, hoping for better (see: sooner) release news. -

Wondering why everyone ignored my questions. I have some trouble choosing the specs. I'll repost my questions here.
It appears that most are in agreement about the 4GB RAM.
How about the SSD, and the warranty? Is the SSD worth the price?
And I see a lot of the 1 year basic plan popping up. For Dell XPS Gen 2, I've milked my 5 years' warranty for what it's worth. Do you think Alienware is that much more sturdy I don't need as long warranty? (Or as good? Advanced instead of Premium?)
When I bought a $4k laptop, those means nothing. When I buy a $1k.. Those are serious investments..
Oh, and one more,
Is the mobile broadband worth it? I don't think I'll use it, but is it a worthwhile investment? -

Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
1)Memory: 4GB
2)SSD: Wait till you find a good deal
3)Warranty: Dell seems to be taking care of the customers recently
4)Mobile Broadband: Unless you have a Mobile Broadband account with a Cellular carrier, then yes. -
Not a single one shipped and we are reaching critical mass... 300++ pages. Holy cow.

This IGN review states that you can use your cell phone's SIM card if you have a data plan but the iPhone's SIM card doesn't work unless unlocked. It also states that the Gobi card can be configured for other carriers but its default setting is for AT&T or Verizon, depending on which you choose. So I suspect that you can use T Mobile (do they do data plans?) SIM cards or O2 or whatever.
I just finished switching my order to include the Gobi card because I plan on using my iPhone's SIM card or just getting another data plan and leeching that. Or, ya know, I could just tether it, but I'm one of those weird people who loves having all the options open.Besides, I saves more than the cost of the Gobi card by using the EPP site and the $50 discount.

Glad to see that you can OC to 1.6 without putting a scratch on the CPU or making it melt.
(or am I somehow wrong)

BAH!
I just got the Dell University email that would save me another $100 on my purchase, but then I would have to start of and cancel my order, I just don't think I can do it again. -
Same here. I'm considering dumping both my Sager and Toshiba netbook to get this thing. I'd be ahead financially too. I realize I don't have the need for the larger notebook at the moment. And with the specs, it should be able to play most games perfectly fine for the next year or so. And at $1000, I could probably easily sell it for $600 in a year and buy the "next best thing".
But first I'd have to sell my notebooks, and it looks like there's about one month wait before it's built, plus shipping time, etc. I'd be without portability for a good 6-8 weeks. EEK! But if I wait for my tax return, and sell my notebooks afterwards... hmmm. -

I'll take it off your hand.
-
Is next day shipping supposed to be this cheap or is it some crazy deal for pre-orders?
-
as always australia got the more expensive end of the stick.... 1500 for the most basic configuration...we had no choice at all lol
we can only get SU7300 4 gig of 1066 MHZ ram and 500 gig HDD no option for anything less or SSD =( -

I'm still almost certain the 4100 can overclock, but regardless...
Does anyone know what dell's return policy is? What if you don't open the laptop? I'm thinking about getting a config with the su7300 and returning it if I can overclock the 4100 -
-
Lol this is making me worry, what's a 3 year warranty for if the battery might only last two years.
Any way, is it better to buy it straight from the order site or should I ask a sales rep for more discounts? I heard this is good for the m17x and such, but does it matter for the m11x (new factor)? Or should I skip the hassle and buy it w/o going thru a rep? -
well for battery it has its own warranty which last 1 year only. laptop battery were designed to last for 1 year in full use but if you switch it off when connected to an AC it may last longer ^^
which means if your battery flats after 2 years you gotta buy another one urself.
p/s can anyone show me the link to dell's return policy and warranty? -
Eggs Scrambled Notebook Evangelist
quest just search google for alienware return policy
It seems theres a possible 15% restocking fee, but I have no idea if this applies to unopened orders.
Anyone have insight? -
But the battery for alienware is internal, so can we 'buy' another one?
Is it likely just a unscrew-and-replace battery? -
Repped for coupon, I just ordered it with an su4100. Seriously hope you can overclock with it, or imma beat myself over the head. -
