I have not worked with them for four years now, but my understanding is their supply chain process is the same- just a LOT more of it is overseas now ;)

    I'm right here!

Welcome to both the M11x and NBR!

Excellent news! Yeah I've been looking forward to using PCSX2. Never got into MAME but that's still great!

As DR650SE said, Alienware doesn't have a lot of bloat on it. I think it comes with Nero and PowerDVD or something but it's pretty easy to uninstall. Personally, I'm going to do a clean install of Windows 7 Professional (originally Ultimate but Eggs talked me down :p).

Seriously, guys. We can only talk about shipping for so long. This discussion about shipping and what not shouldn't be this long. But I'm glad we might be able to get our hands on these things next week. On a side note, I bought some cheap azz nano wireless mouse from HP. It was super dupa cheap, bought 2 for $31!!! I hope it's not a time bomb.

Not being a prude, but please do a search, since posting links would be wrong in many ways. Obvious key words will do it.

Yes, I was stunned at how clean the system was compared to junked up systems most vendors put out, it's really refreshing to have a near pristine system in your hands these days... you almost feel guilty loading stuff on it :p

Haha no worries man im at work right now actually and have been posting from my phone. Cant really sesrch random sites like that. Just wondering for instant gratification. Ill do it when i get home. Havent had a laptop in awhile and if it runs these games smoothly that would only add to the awesomeness. Wanted to know which ones were the least likely to mess my comp up and easiest to install. But again will do it on my own time

In regard to the MAME test:

Please also consider that the 50vt at Bestbuy is running a bunch of bloatware and a Bestbuy demo loaded and locked down. Even at 1.3ghz, the system still played MAME very-very well!

BTW, Alienware does not bloatware their products like Dell, even though they are part of Dell. Think of Dell as the Navy and Alienware are the Marines- The Marines are a department of the Navy ;).

I got my crumpler bag that I ordered in today! Too bad there's no m11x in it :( Oh well...feels like I'm getting in parts. First the bag, next the mouse (got a good deal on a BT logitech m555b), hopefully right behind that will be the computer itself.

Could spend all day looking for mice, games on steam etc. for this laptop, but all I really want is the laptop itself, its a real pity that this has been handled so poorly by Dell (At least for me anyways my date 22/2/2010. Progress: Work In Progress.)

I feel the same way. Its sad that im checking every 15-20 min to see if my status changes to "shipped". I have all the accessories for it. When it gets in pictures will be taken of the unboxing.

All of the emulators run straight (except the N64 one), so no installation or registry issues. I have mine on a 32gb thumb drive :)

I emailed the rep that placed my order asking about the battery shortage and this was his response.

"I have not heard anything related to that. "

This is a rep in America btw not one of the India reps.

Prolly go on my lunch break to best buy and look at their selection of thumb drives here ina bit so i can transfer all my random goodness from my old POS laptop to my m11x. Called up dell support to ask them if there was anyway to ship my order faster and the woman on the phone said it could be sooner but they will call me back with someone to help. As long as it gets here on or around the 5th ill be all good. Already picked up the g500 and a Sennheiser PC 350 Gaming Headset.

hey I currently have an ASUS G1S-A1 laptop which I plan on selling to get this little mofo that has been discussed on this 350+ page thread. Do you guys think it would be a good replacement? I would mainly use it to run games like NFS Shift and MW2. Maybe Gears of War 2 or something but I'm not that hardcore. It is just the coolest looking laptop to date in my opinion.

Not much to post about, just waiting for it to get here to see if I will keep it or sell it. I am starting to wonder though how many of these will be up on EBAY initially. Reading the admins post about putting their units up on ebay after they review them got me thinking about how many people just ordered initially with the coupons so they could make a couple bucks on ebay (There were alot from slickdeals). Hope the competition is not too stiff if I decide to sell LOL

Also I think alot of people just get tired of reading the one line banter back and forth that makes up majority of this thread. It gets frustrating because you end up having to go through 10 pages just to get one actual update of information.

Just saying for those who want the m11x to be there desktop replacement you might want to think again. Because this isn't meant to be a desktop replacement and you will be disappointed.

@filipp - why do you say that? It sounds pretty powerful, and for a guy like me that uses it mostly for web surfing and playing some light games on it, maybe it will work. I am just kinda tired of lugging around the G1S... it's pretty heavy for a 15.4" lappie... with the bezel and trim around the display screen it seems more like a 17 incher than anything else. I want something more compact that is comparable to what I have. Make sense?

Because the processor is no where near the equivalent of a good desktop processor. For 700$ you can build a quad core i5 750 with a GTX 275 desktop. The m11x is meant to be for those who already have a powerful desktop or laptop sitting at home but they want another computer with great portability / battery life that can play games once in a while. I am just saying if you try to do heavy duty stuff on the m11x the CPU won't be enough for you. That is why it shouldn't be a desktop replacement. If your buying this as your only computer then I wouldn't. I would just go get the 900$ Asus from bestbuy with the GTX 260.

I don't actually understand laptops that are meant as desktop replacements.

    A) They cost 2-3times as much as normal desktops.
    B) Most desktops are waaaaaay more powerful than their laptop counterparts (at a fraction of the cost, too)
    C) The laptops are usually so huge and heavy that being portable is out of the question.
    D) They become outdated in 2 years at best. Once outdated, unlike a desktop, you can't really "upgrade" the parts.

@filipp - yeah I see what you mean... I guess I have never owned anything less than 14.1" which was a gateway back in the day... Do you think it will be difficult to read text on the screen, say if I web surfed or maybe typed a Word doc on this thing? I think the specs mention it's an 11.6" screen right? I mean with the 1366 resolution on it...

I wouldn't want to write a 20page college paper on the m11x. I currently have a Vaio TZ which is 11" with the same resolution and I never write any papers on it. I always type them up on my desktop at home.

As for the laptop desktop replacement thing, it is for those people who want a desktop replacement but they want it in a laptop package because they either move around alot or they need to carry it with them to places which is to much of a hassle for a desktop which is why desktop replacement laptops cost alot.

I agree... you just made me think of all the old school Alienware laptops... well they still exist to this day... that are 17" or more... it's like those aren't really laptops (I know I wouldn't want to sit one of those on my lap). They're just gonna sit on your desk anyway... who knows...

Does anyone know what type of screen the m11x has on it or has that not been confirmed yet? I mean, compared to say the ASUS ones that have a lot of light leakage from the bottom etc.?

I have been using a 12" netbook and I would definitely not recommend it for a desktop replacement. The screen is nice and usable for short periods of 30mins or so but it is headache inducing for anything much longer. If this will be your only computer i would definitely go for a bigger screen.

Been lurking in this thread for a few hundred pages...

Purchased two M11X's ... one for myself, and one for my son in college.

Planning on using my M11x as a nice, mobile solution for gaming. My Impulse and Steam backlog is kind of ridiculous at this point (damn all these sales)--and I just get tired of sitting in the home office.

I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions on how some more CPU dependent games might perform. I'm thinking of games such as Sins of the Solar Empire or some of the Total War games, where the CPU might be pretty busy pushing around the enemy AI. Does anyone have any experience running these sorts of titles on a notebook with a lower-spec CPU and a decent graphics card?

The ad says it has a WLED monitor. If it is the same WLED as the one used in their SXPS13 line, then expect it to be one of the BEST screens you will ever see on a 13inch (The new Sony Vaio Z screen might be better).

I always type my papers on my 13.3" laptop. The resolution is 1280x800, a little less overall than the M11x, and I've never had a problem with it. In fact, I never type full screen and really only use 2/3 of the screen.

I just did a brief comparison of my screen vs an 11.6" diagonal and there's barely a difference (for me). Someone who's very picky will have a problem with it but if you're curious, just pull out a tape measure and compare it to your current screen.

I use an 8.9in netbook frequently and 30min of use should not give you regular headaches.

That said, if you use the m11x as a desktop replacement (which i think is quite viable by the way) you should obviously use a monitor...

welll the 11.6 inch screen would be @ 16:9, right? so like 5.8 by 10 inches or so? it doesn't seem like it would be that bad to me... especially with a good resolution.
but then again... young and foolish as they say. :p
it would be my main/only computer though... although it would be easy to fix the screen problem with an external monitor. :D

Really? I mean, I can imagine wanting an external monitor for photo or video editing but I can't imagine how you'd have a problem typing a paper. The screen is wider than a sheet of notebook paper so it would actually be easier than writing.

That actually reminds me: people wanting this to be a (once-in-a-while) desktop replacement should probably invest in a good external monitor and then they'll be happy.

From what other posters have said, you shouldn't have too much of a problem running it on medium settings.

How will the M11x handle the wii and gamecube emulator Dophin??

And, is there some way to take greater advantage of the GPU of the m11x while using Dolphin??

So I see that people kind of have mixed feelings about the desktop replacement thing. I think that if it's as good a screen as mentioned in previous posts it should not matter, also since Windows 7 has that zoom feature for text. Anyway I think I could probably throw down a couple of hours on Modern Warfare 2 without hurting my eyes too bad.

@CallsignHUSKER - yeah I'm curous to know this too... is this a new thing or has that been out for a while? I remember trying to emulate the PS2 games to no avail on my G1S... I wonder if that has been optimized now for the wii games...
