See the other post a page or so back price is similair configured the same. I just found out you are right though no discount, you have to call Sony and they will give you a login info for a student website with discount but you can only get the old Z with discount not the new one

If your just gonna game and don't mind the size m11x is a better deal with the epp discounts but I can't help it I know I will have buyers remorse so I think i'm gonna go with the Z.

Now I wonder should I cancel the 11x order or sell on Ebay? I wonder how many people will sell it on Ebay with the discounts I paid 829 shipped for 11x with 7300, 4gb ram 250gb HD and BT. I think maybe I could get 1000 for it on Ebay because it is almost 1200 without the epp configured like that?

It scores 6200 3dmarks 06 and 10,000 PCmarks Vantage don't know how that compares to m15x.

 

You should take into consideration that the GTA IV in game benchmark is extremely optimistic, there is very little going on and I notice that on many occasions, you get significantly less fps in the actual game with the same settings you just benched. Sometimes even 10 fps less.

 

just speaking for myself here, but avg 25 fps wouldn't be bad! considering it's on an ultraportable... not much to complain about, imo...

I totally feel like I'm not going to have any buyers remorse with the m11x. It'ss spec will let me do exactly what I want to do. But, I will keep it packaged until I see a review up, maybe. Or one of you guys finds a catastrophic failure with the build of the computer lol. Hope I don't go nuts when it shows up and just split the box in half with my brain.

Don't worry, buy when you need it, not when you want it. Perfect cure. As for the carbon fibre finish, probably wait a year or two and the next thing you know its become standard.

 

Want M11X! should be able to order soon, but I need to scrape together another $500au... *sigh* Oh well, at least I've confirmed i can get EPP discount on lower-spec systems (called a epp salesrep, thanks ceol)

Probably, which is why I'm psyched and satisfied with my m11x purchase ha ha. The best part is, I've never gamed on maxed settings in any computer games so I'm completely ok with with running games at medium settings with maybe a few features on.

The 335 has more CUDA cores but other than that they are pretty much the same. So the 335M will run better than the 330M. Im sticking with the M11x.

 

Yeah i have never once ran a game with high settings on. So im all good with medium settings. Sry to the hardcore gamers that want to run Crysis on here on all high setttings haha! Lower your standards

Yup I paid 800$ for the same thing except 250gb vs the 500gb.

He said he originally ordered with the coupons stacking then called today to attach the 3% DPA so the rep had to take off the current EPP stuff which is the anti virus and since the 250gb is out of stock gave him a free upgrade to 500gb. He could be lying but looks legit.

 

Stuff like this is what scares me LOL I know alot of people got crazy deals on the 11x with the coupons that we're available before Dell realized it and disabled them all. So if alot of these end up on EBAY then the chance for profit becomes much less and it is probably safer to just cancel rather than try to resell it. I don't have much experience with this sort of thing though so not sure what to do... I don't want to lose money having to sell it when I could just cancel it but at the same time the way I look at it is if I sell it for profit then any profit means less I paid for the Z.

I guess it is kind of like gambling here...don't know wether to take the chance or not.

 

That might be true but the performance might not be that much considering most people are going to OC the processor which would add roughly a 20% increase in performance. Plus the difference in price is too great for me to even think about it. I like the style of sony as well as the quality of their builds but they are always way to expensive to even consider. My opinion is the M11x is the way to go. Also you dont get the cool lighting and evil look.

 

Don't bother dude, you have almost nothing to back up your claims, and as we saw yesterday a crappy laptop with an old 9800M GTS and 1.66 Ghz Duel core scored roughly the same as your i5. The M11X will score higher than that rig, so it will score the same or higher than the i5+330M.

Anyone who thinks half as many stream processors in exchange for a 20% CPU performance boost and half the battery life is a good trade is insane.

I will take the M11X with 8 hour battery, better video, and a good CPU any day.

Another question, you ever 3DMark06 yours? What did it score? Just interested in they weight CPU or GPU more in 06.

 

You better cancel, Dell is giving Resellers an even better deal, and eBay will be plenty full, you will lose money.

 

The reason why the 48 shader 330M can keep up with the 72 shader 335M is the core clock... 575mhz vs 450mhz. That, and of course the CPU it is paired with.

If the M11x is appropriately in its own class, why do these comparisons continue? The Vaio Z is in its own class as well, I know of no other ultra portable carrying as many features, engineered as well, and as expensive

 

Also i ordered the one off the EPP website so was basically forced to pay for the 500gb....then i was told that i could config on dell website and call the EPP line and only have to pay for the 250gb. Well looks like i will be downloading a crapload of videos.

I opted out for the WWAN antenna. I can always install one later right? Also, when the specs say the M11x can handle 1080p playback does that mean it will output 1080p via HDMI?

 

I'm calling shenanigans on that $700 order. I just customized a SU7300, 4GB RAM, 250GB HDD, bluetooth setup and it came to $1019. Subtract $100 for EPP, $100 for over EPP over $1000, $50 for EPP subscription, and $30 for DPA and it came to $739 before tax. Not sure where he got $655.10 before tax. Maybe the Dell rep accidentally took off the $89 for McAfee when he never got it?

You can install a WWAN antenna later if you feel comfortable cracking open your screen to do it. I assume you meant Gobi when you said WWAN antenna; when you order Gobi, they install the WWAN antenna and hook Gobi up to it. If you don't order Gobi, you won't get the antenna.

And yes, it will output at 1080p via HDMI.

335m is like having 10% more steam processor but have 25% less in mhz then 9800gts ( 9800gts will be faster then 335 )
and 9800gts has double the bandwidth then 335m

 

For me they continue because the laptops are the same size essentially, everyone says m11x is 11" form factor but it is not it is very large compared to other 11-12" form factors it is more similiar in size with 13" form factor and size is very important to me it's all about getting the best experience possible in the smallest size package.

To me these are both in the same class when considering size/cost similairly configured but the 11x does win out on bottom dollar price if you aren't going to get SSD dvd drive etc...it is much easier for people to swallow 1000 dollar then later spend 500 dollar on ssd and 100 dollar for external dvd and ??? dollar for gobi wan than it is to spend 1899 all at once for the Sony so I can understand where they are coming from.

 

I mostly agree. I think the potential problem is likely to be the level of lagg although the recent 1.0.04 patch really improved this a lot. I can't wait to see some in game performance footage of GTA IV on that laptop. Will be very interesting.

 

The Sony does 6200 3dmark 06 , the 11x does 6100 3dmark 06, His laptop have same i5 and 330m so should perform same as Sony. If anything actually performance better in game because of the better cpu which is biggest bottleneck with 11x. If you watch the video from Alienware you can see in l4d when all the zombies come out it drops to FPS in the teens, this is because of the weak CPU if it had better CPU it would blow away the 330m with i5 but it is bottlenecked by the Core2Duo so it performance is the same or worse in games.

Wow i think this turned out for the worse. At the end of it all i think its just a matter of preference. Some people like the Sony and some like the Alienware. Since i already ordered the M11x and am unwilling to pay that much for the sony i think its a moot point. If people can afford the other good for them. I dont want this to turn into a "who's junk is bigger" debate.

 

I don't want to start any war, just hard to see incorrect information without correcting it for me. It is a big decision to buy a laptop regardless if it is 1000 dollars or 2000 dollars so people should have the right information to make their decision.

 

lol I'm pissed off about that dude, too. He paid 666ish for a maxed out M11X. I paid 777 for a SU4100, 4GB ram, 160GB HD, and no bluetooth. Since his is more closer to 666, his laptop might just arrive dead though.
