Think this will handle WoW on high? I said this in another thread but can't seem to find it (maybe didnt post). I'm looking at building a desktop and wouldn't mind getting a portable gaming rig like this to replace my current HP Mini netbook.
-
I have now canceled 4 times and ordered 5. LOL!!!!
I had to take advantage of the extra $100 discount, especially because I am pinching paypal pennies for an iPad...
The one good thing about paypal. I have canceled all these times, and evertime the money goes instantly back into my paypal, and I can order again instantly, pretty nice, lol. -

I don't game on my Netbook right now which is why I'm looking at this. I'm wondering what settings I might get out of the m11 on WoW and what my FPS might look like.
I'll also be playing the other games but WoW is my main thing along with MW2. -
-
-
So are there TWO $100 off coupons ?
If yes could someone please PM me the one which is less well-known ? -
Yea I figured it would be the CPU that would throttle the gamers on this. I still think I'll pick this up since my current laptop can only handle WoW on completely low settings. Also, I read Borderlands ran well and other games that I will be looking to play in the future.
I wonder how people will feel about this for games that require CD's.....Actually I forgot you can just mount the disk image instead silly me haha. -
Well guys, congrats to all of you who have ordered.
After months of research and waiting, this is *the* netbook/laptop/non iPad device I am looking to get.
I live in South Africa and Alienware are for all intents and purposes not represented. You can get basic models but for interests sake, a M15x base model starts off at around US$ 2,800, poverty spec.
Enough said.
I usually make use of a myUS freight forwarding and consolidation service based in Florida to import my gadgets and goods.
I tried purchasing from Dell US, unfortunately they don't accept PayPal from outside the US or foreign credit cards, ie. my German and SA ones.
Bummer.
Anybody who intends purchasing 2 of these little beauties, post it up on eBay, my online shopping destination of choice, and I *will* buy it from you. (It's a long shot, I know, but hey - give a guy a point for trying)
Great threads and posts on the m11x here - keep it up.

This thing should run WOW fine on high settings. Most people seem to forget it only has to run it at 1366x768 resolution and seem to be comparing it to other computers running at 1920x1200. Wow runs fine on low settings on an Atom netbook with Ion graphics so it would be really disappointing if this thing couldn't run it on high LOL
-
This is true. Guess I got a new goal haha.
-
M15x base model which sells for U$1200,00 in U.S, costs a mere R$7000,00 (or simply U$3850,00) here in Brazil.
And i bet we get the m11x by the end of the year or 2011 only ! kkk
But im going to US on June to visit a friend and purchase my m11x =] -
Guess I'm going to be chatting to some mates at work to see who is visiting stateside first this year to bring back a little m11x -
Wow.....$4000 for a base lappy is ridiculous! I would just come here and buy one and build a desktop with the rest. Nowadays we have so many options especially with a chunk of change like $4000.
-
Every alien m11x would come with WiFi card (A/B/G/N), right?
I'm curious since I haven't seen any wifi network in config -
Are there anymore reviews around for this yet? except Hothardware and IGN?
-
Yes it comes with a wireless card installed.
Gizmodo has a review. Check the first page of this thread and you'll get all the information you'll need. -
And don't get me wrong, I WANT one of these, for all the reasons it's made for, plus the "cool factor"! -
-
-
Don't worry, though, because it's worth it! -
If you pay with a DPA it only takes 2-3 hours to go into "In Production"
-
its completely insane.
and the only difference i can see is that brazilian model comes with 3gb instead of 2gb and the red color (which costs +U$90) is the same price as black or silver.
no wonder dell is getting a hard time here. everything is sooo overpriced.
only the inspiron and vostro line are quite competitive to other brands. -
The DPA seemed like a good deal though. -
-
Man, seems like US is getting the cheaper base price + the SIM card options + all the coupons in the world.
Here in Canada it seems I can only grab a 7% of EPP + a free MX518 mouse.

Haha, I wish I could see how many people have gotten to use those codes I posted just last night, I have read at least 10 reports so far. To bad I didn't get commission off them, I'd of made a small fortune by now.

And yeah, I just can't bring myself to reorder, though I want to, Maybe if they added something new I wanted on the M11x. -
-
-
I urge you guys to cancel and re-order why? Because of the resale value.
We are getting nearly $350 off with epp and the coupons today, that prob won't happen again.......with the 7300, 320gb, 4gb and bluetooth it retails at nearly $1100 out the door.
I got all the above for $830. In 6 months when the 2nd generation comes out, we can afford to sell this thing for $650-700 and only lose a fraction, compared to if we had paid retail.
Jump on this guys. $100 is nothing to slouch at. -
I'm not seeing gizmodo review on first page someone said, and the hardware heaven isn't on first page either?
Armoured I'm with ya. I was already thinkin about re-ordering to get SSD + Silver, but seeing the extra $100 made me do it. So glad I did. -

Any theorycraft going on about how well the M11x will handle games like WOW?
I run a GTX260 w/ 2.53 C2D laptop, but not sure if thats overkill. I am looking at the M11x as a true run around the house game machine but I seem to be stuck in the WOW rut atm so my needs are limited to that game.
Would this thing burn up or choke trying to run games (i.e. WOW) at full HD 1920x1080, I wouldn't mind hooking it up for gaming on the bigscreen.
Thanks in advance.
I really wish there was a way to test drive these damn things. -

vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
so is it worth it to buy one now or wait? the earliest i can try to get one is in a 3-4 weeks.
-
It will. They even give you the option to pre-install it (in the US)! They would not do that if it would not be running acceptably on it. It even runs Crysis for gods sake, and that demands more of a system.
Sure, you will get better framerates on larger/faster systems, but hey - this is a decent gaming system with a 3DMark 06 score of about 6100.
WOW has been reported to run decent enough on ion netbooks, and they only deliver a 3DMark 06 score of about 2000.
If you are still too unsecore if WOW will run well enough, just wait until more people have recieved it and have posted frame rates of WOW on the M11x. -

I just reordered mine but they would only give me $50 off since after the EPP 10% it was under $1000. not the end of the world though as this time I got the silver (meant to first time haha) and got them to give me 3% DPA discount as well, so I am at 13% and $50 off - I will take it!
The rep I had said that coupons would not stack so I had the $50 for systems under $999 only and not that other next epp purchase $50 off one -
Great insight from Heaven's review:
"Idle temperatures for the M11x are good for the components installed with the hard-drive being a particular highlight. Its location, far away from the CPU/GPU, allows it to remain cool at all times."
This is great news, since many laptop designs (Sony is infamous for this) place their hard drives below or next to the CPU. Too much heat and accelerated time for hard drive failure in this design. Alienware avoids this for the M11X -
FFS, would people stop claiming that the ULV i5/i7 CPU's weren't used because they would "significantly diminish" the battery life of the notebook. A ULV i5/i7 system consumes less power than a ULV C2D system. Less power draw = more battery life.
ULV C2D (10W) + GS45 Chipset; MCH (12W), ICH (2.5W) = 24.5W
ULV i5/i7 (18W) + HM/PM55 Chipset (3.5W) = 21.5W
So stop spreading false information when you can't back up your claims with proof.
The SU4100 and SU7300 are able to run most games adequately, so they had no problem selecting these CPU's to handle the main purpose of the M11x. If it does what most customers want the product for, then people will buy it. So don't think that they chose the C2D CPU's over the i5/i7's due to power draw, heat issues or even cost issues (all ULV Intel CPU's are priced similarly). It's got nothing to do with it.
AW are most likely sitting happy knowing that their loyal customers are going to buy this machine now anyway, and the people not impressed with the C2D CPU will wait until the i5/i7 refresh comes (don't think it won't). Therefore, bagging themselves two "rounds" of buyers, and spreading out cash flow. They may have also got a good deal from Intel for a batch of ULV C2D's, for the simple reason that C2D is presently being phased out of manufacturer's line-ups. -

oh well, I am not that cheap and will let it slip haha
That will come out to 4$ a month for the next year....I will survive -
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
the M11x will handle SC2 and D3 just fine, do not worry about that haha
-
Ok so let me get this straight. We can use the epp, -50 for signing up for epp news, -50 for below $999 (or $100 for above $1000), and now there is talk of another $100?
How? OMG the deals are insane! -
Still, the existing cpu's used offer enough, as you said.
