I expected that Dell closed its doors in Ireland last year. Still shipping will probably be quite quick i wouldnt worry.

It's showing the updated delivery date on the order status page + says its preparing to ship for me on the phone call (again, US here)

Sound's like I'm in the boxing stage or something.... 2/18 seems way too optimistic for 7-day delivery unless the boxing or whatever is being done near me (i'm in SoCal). Either way though, I'm stoked to know that my thing has been built and is good to go!

Now if only Dell would make their shipping less mysterious

My order was placed on the 2/3/2010, and according to the phone system is still in the build stage. Its been about 11 days in that stage. ARGH! My estimated ship date is 3/4/2010 and has not changed. I ordered off the US site.

For those of you that are still in the build stage, does your billing address show up when you check on the order from the webpage? What about your shipping address? The reason why I am asking is because, after signing in, neither of them are on my order page.

I'd be skeptical of purchasing such a new item off ebay, it may be legit, but you don't know how the warranty issue may turn out. I suggest going through Dell and ordering via phone
through the EPP program. You can get a much better deal this route ;)

@jonjonk, It doesn't and I'm sure it's for privacy reasons.

yeah i read your whole post on ordering from dell via phone using epp and haggling with the rep. very well done. but my concern would be the shipping. according to there website if i were to customize one now they wouldnt ship it for another 30 days. 3/16. i dont really want to wait that long. and if this ebay listing can ship within 15 days that would be a whole lot nicer.

Come on guys. USA will not be shipping until March 1, at earliest, period. This has been confirmed by several people here and by Alienware reps. They aren't building yet. This is a new laptop that they're ramping up to production, i.e. procuring components, setting up the line, etc.

I left mine blank and still ended up with a personalized name plate. It's now sp0_0ky lol I didn't want to cancel because I used a few coupons on it that has now expired. Plus, if you don't like the name plate, you can easily take it off.

Skeptical of what? Chews states that it is shipped and in the US. Is this just a fluke and no one else from the US will get theirs shipped until March 1st? I certainly doubt it.

I'd just be skeptical because since Feb 11th, they have two negative ratings of customers claiming they recieved broken/damaged laptops, to which they reply> Granted we don't have the whole story. But if I'm spending a significant amount of money, I'd just much rather take the safe bet. I'm not saying ordering from them is wrong, I'd just call them first. They likely buy them from dell first at a discounted rate and then resell them. Of course I could be totally wrong and completely paranoid. Although being paranoid is my job, so that may explain it.

I'd check out thier website first right here

Thier starting price is the same as Dells.

yeah i used their live support to ask a few questions and according to "ted" it seems they dont know much about when it will be ready to ship and it "could possibly" take as long as 30 days. i dont think they are ahead of dell when it comes to a shipping date.

I doubt anyones system is actually in the build stage yet. If anyone wants, I can key their order number into the order processing system and see what stage of production its in, if it is actually being built.

Folks, Dell is still in pre-order mode. Perhaps a few, somehow will ship out, but until you can not cancel your order, it is not in the actual production process. Some are reporting they can not cancel their orders now, so that would suggest Dell is transitioning from pre-order mode to actual production mode.

One final time- Unless Alienware / Dell like to burn money, no way the nameplates are made in a seperate place and then sent to the production line where the laptop is. Please think about that and see how much sense it makes ;) The plates are made at the finishing stage and just before packaging- bet on it :)

Dell themselves said it was a preorder when launched and CES reps stated beginning of March. Just a few weeks now :)

The M11x was actually available in white before the color got canceled. If you look at the studio xps 13 and 16, Dell had hips of problems with the white color. I just wish they could improve their production techniques and machinery to coop with the white color. As a previous owner of the white Sony Vaio CW (I loved the color!), I would love to own a white M11x :)

Just called Dell Canada for fun to check on parts shortages, EDD etc.
I get the impression that we probably have a better idea of what's going on rather then the ppl that are in the call center. I asked if there was an"official release date" as all over the web it says it won't ship until March 1st, they have no idea. I think that the March 1st release date is bogus as from what I am seeing and hearing, ppl are getting them shipped early, which I mentioned to the CSR. Both the CSR and the Tech rep said that I should receive my order well before my EDD(of Mar 12th.)as it is in production and there are no parts shortages( at least on my config).
I will believe it when I see it.

I did notice on the dell.ca website that there was no "peliminary shipping date" but on the US site there was.

Anyway, I'm not holding my breath :p

    @Area-Man
Dell almost always ship their laptops earlier than expected. Even after that, they arrive at your doorstep at least half a week earlier than the EDD. From personal experience, their standard shipping option is more like the 3day option from other retailers.

The EDD is more of a "worst case" scenario. I think the idea is to set the bar low and over-deliver. :p

Also, I just checked my order and another forum users order and they are showing a lead time of 20 days from a manufacturing process. Given that actual assembly is done within 24 hours, the additional time is for readying the assembly process and shipping the units in from overseas.

The last product I ordered from dell was about 7 years ago and it was on time. Wasn't a new product though.

When i mentioed to them that 5 weeks to build a laptop was a little outrageous(was just digging at them a little) they assured me that it won't be that long.

Again, I don't expect anything earlier then my EDD, just thought I would push them a little.

Dell has changed drastically in the last 7 years. Previously, everything was very short build times because everything was assembled in a few locations that were all close together. If one site was low on parts we just threw them in a truck and drove them across town. Now the units are assembled all over the globe. Moving parts from one location to another takes weeks.

Was it because you called that one number? It's not working correctly right now. It gives me option to press "3" but then goes right to entering order number. This is NOT the detailed status update we usually get. So yeah I think mine said that, although I knew right away it wasn't the right automated message. It's the generic one I called the first time around, just weird since they changed the automated message on that number we've been using for 4,2,1,1 or 3,2,1,1.

I have to hit 4,2,1,1 to get to that thing now.

I do recall ordering a Dell 30" 2 years ago and it came 2 weeks before they estimated it so go figure

Was mulling it over for the past couple weeks on whether I wanted one for a birthday present to myself, but broke down today and ordered it.

Now I'm annoyed with myself for waiting, before when I did the configure when it was first available, I had an estimated ship day of 3/6/10......now it's 3/17/10 :( It's gonna be a super late present to myself

I called in today checking for the status, apperently its in the "build" phase. I ordered on 2/3 EDD 3/8.

I also tried adding next day shipping to my order, but apperently that requires me to cancel and reorder again according to the rep

Btw the rep also went to check if any of the parts were on backorder, after a 15 minute wait she reassured me that none of the parts for the system are on backorder.

    Anyway I thought I'd share

I just got off the phone with Dell Customer support and the guy said he'd "TRY" to expedite my order...
He submitted a request to have it expedited, now i have to wait 48 BUSINESS hours to get a response back from them.
He said he'd call me when there's a update...
Do you think they'll expedite my order?
    Do they usually approve it?

My ESD is 3/12/10 and my order date was 2/9/10

I can't say for sure, but based on the one time I spoke to a Dell rep on the phone about expediting an order they said they cannot expedite orders unless your system has left the "build" stage. After payment is confirmed the order goes: kitting (obtaining parts), build (self explanatory), testing, boxing, and then shipping.

If your estimated delivery date is listed as 3/12 then I doubt your system has left the build stage to be expedited (assuming what the rep told me is true). That said, based on previous Dell customer comments in the forums, the EDD listed on the Dell website is generally "padded" by a few days so you will likely get your order before 3/12 even if no one expedites your order.
