So ive been in build for about 4 days...I should expect at least 5 more days of build? :/

wanted to let you know it's a hit or miss.

I am in my 24th day from phone order and still in the build stage.

 

Just called Dell on my order. They said its on hold for processors out of stock. (SU7300) This sucks!

Mine was delivered today. Wife was home to accept the delivery from Fed Ex.

Intersesting to see if my unit has issues posted already. Seems quite a few are having issues. For a forum (small group), the amount seems alarmingly high.

Six more hours or so to find out.

 

only two people have had real issues with hardware if i recall, out of the hundreds of units shipped. A lot of people simply "got theirs" and never posted or posted that they got it and we haven't seen em since lol

most happy people probably aren't on alienware messageboards posting about it

I signed up here to help pass the time while I wait, and I can pretty much guarantee you that once I get it I will be absent for at least a few days while I have fun and get it whipped into shape.

yea I have a feeling i'll be absent for awhile when i receive it.. which seems like never from the way things are going..

I have a new theory I wanted to explore. How many 2/3 and 2/2 orders still in purgatory have 'non-standard' software installs? By that I mean, ordered WoW, Windows 7 Ultra, checked NO for Valve, etc?

Someone asked a few pages ago what we'll do if the EDD is missed... I'm angry enough that I am one of a few pre-orders singled out to get theirs well after the majority. If I do not have it on 3/5, I'll cancel and spend a few $ more on the Vaio Z. My mind is made up on that.

 

Mine has Win 7 Ultimate but I highly doubt that its the problem though.

 

Nah it can't be that.. people have ordered pre-installed WoW and received it.. I checked pre-install STEAM but i really don't think that's why our lappys are getting delayed.. perhaps i should start shopping for other laptops too..

It seems that early bird gets the worm is not a correct with dell. Seems that if you ordered early feb you are not getting it til mid march. But if you ordered mid february you will soon be getting yours. Whats up with that Dell!!!

 

I have Ultimate too (much better for networking). Also no-Steam. Reason I thought of it was their master images might be built around the most common configurations. If you get something less common, and then throw in a SSD.... maybe that's a problem.

 

Bah you suck, i live in nashville. Your machine just left from the building accross the street witch means thats prolly where mine is just sitting there waiting for a part. Annoying.

again, dell is just citing random parts being backordered because they want you to get off the phone. I'm sure of it. They are going to tell you whatever it takes to move to the next call because they have no control over when it ships. once it hits build i have a weird feeling it just "sort of happens"

would seem that way at least.

They just tell you that theres a backordered part, and that it keeping your system from shipping early, but that it should still meet the EDD. Classic Dell tactic.

Still in build this morning, but now it says my EDD is 3/12/10

 

I noticed on a dell forum that one of the common parts for most of the builds that are ordered is the 500gb hd. Apparently they were on back order(just came off backorder).
My config has a 250gig hd. I ordered 2/8 and my order shipped yesterday.
I know I am only one person, but it does make sense as most of the configs on here have the 500 gig hd.

 

Mine has officially arrived guys. Long wait over. Will check back in the other threads regarding some benches and input on the machine.

 

@Area-Man I actually have the 160GB HDD. I don't think there's any one reason why all of our orders are backed up, it's probably many instances of incompetence.

 

I doubt its the hard drives unless you got a SSD, otherwise all of the models would experience similar delays.

 

this is BS i got a call from dell at 7:15am and i missed it because i was still sleeping... they left me a message saying that the chasis is out of stock and will be restocked by 3/7/10... and i should be fine to recieve my order by my EDD of 3/10/10...

and here's an email they sent me because i didnt pick up my phone this morning

Yeah I'm not sure. It's nice that he gave a specific date, but that also means every other backed up order will start being pushed to 3/7.

 

yep, i have the 160gig too. It's nice that you get a personal email Mikel, I just get the same "it's in production" crap. I know it's production, DELL, but what stage, damn-it!!

my EDD is still 3/8/10 .. this would suck big time if we get caught in the low parts dilema considering we ordered early..

Back order on chassis smells fishy. Aren't there two different colors? They don't say which one is the problem. And what did they do with 2/3 pre-orders? Attempt to build them with no chassis, take any available chassis and save them for later orders, and then claim the 2/3 orders are affected by a chassis shortage? I wish Dell would just tell the truth.

Exactly... Mine was a 2/3 order as well. All of this "backorder parts" is bullsh*t. We ordered *before* people who have received theirs. Backorder delays should only be applying to people who ordered later (like the 10th).

It really is a simple f*ck up. I'm certain.

 

They should really stop lying to us or they'll be digging themselves a bigger grave.

So people who have been told of the chassis delay, what colors are you getting? I can't imagine that they are out of both silver AND black... that would be too fishy, and would give us a yellow BS flag to wave i think.

 

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they said they are out of Windows 7.

I ordered one a couple a weeks ago. It... um... we'll it's empty. But it's a great sleeve and sfbags was very quick and efficient. Not like Dell.

 

a rep called me about 45 minutes ago because i replied to the email about there being a chassis shortage or whatever. i pretty much gave him a tough time and explaining to him how upset i was and i said I'm considering canceling my order. and how can there be a chassis shortage?!

There are people who ordered after me and yeah they may have a different configuration and everything but the color of the chassis is the same and I've been in the build stage for quite awhile i SHOULD already have a chassis since I'm in the build stage which means they've already got all my parts and just putting it together. He also made up some BS about build taking 1 min and 50 seconds LOL and he also said that there were around 5000 chassis but they refused to accept them because they were defective thats why there's a backorder. lol idk how much BS this is but yea...

so after giving him a tough time and everything and he asked me for order number from another person who has already received it and i was about to PM someone who already has it to give me their order number while he holds on. then he said that he'd offer me a free case! he was about to order the belkin 12 inch case... then i told him there's another case for the same price and i pointed him to the Mobile EDGE Alienware 11x portfo binder case (Dell Part# : A3460820) and he said he'd send me that case and i explained i was still unsatisfied and he said he'd send me a $25 code to my email
