Anyone figure out the discrepancies yet? I know the 2/3 people are screwed. Looks like most are shipping at around 30 days after order. Yet some after the 1st week are getting theirs within 10-14 days!

I'm order 2/20 with EDD 3/24. I know I haven't been waiting long so I have no room to complain. 33 days though !!

All you guys that are moving on to the boxing stage are lucky. They only have 3 days to get my m11x out to meet the 3/4 edd, but it's not even out of build yet T_T. Double yoo tee eff.

From their support area and this is a huge hole as I expected that the warrenties were handled like those from dell...guess not:

    Transferring warranties

    Question
If I sell my computer, is the warranty transferable to the new owner?

    Answer
    Thank you for your inquiry.

Unfortunately, the Alienware Warranty for all systems is not transferable as explained in the Terms and Conditions Agreement, inside the Alienware Product Manual.

Click here to learn where you can read the limited warranty statements.

Click here to learn how you can contact Technical Support.

    Thank you for your inquiry,

Well, my order status page now says shipped. My order details page still says in production. Both of them still have same EDD as march 25. I wonder if there is an error in the order status page?

    Whoo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just received an email that my M11x has shipped... Wasn't supposed to happen until 3/23!

Whatever was holding up their production on these things seems to be fixed now. It was just ordered on 2/18.

According to dell...you dont have a prayer of getting it by then. I had a recent order of a monitor from dell. Each week with 2 days of the EDD I got an email from them pushing out the EDD a week and asking me to confirm I still wanted the order. I expect this to start happening but I could be pleasently surprised.

I do hope you are referring to another system and not MY m11x. When I bought the first gen m15x it was also from ebay but this was before the Dell merger. When Alienware was a standalone company it was one of the few out there that did not cover transfer of ownership under factory warranty.

Now that they are owned by Dell, Dell is the one that stands behind the systems, not Alienware (Alienware is just branding). Therefore, all the new gen "Dell-ienware's" follow Dell's warranty terms, which do, in fact, cover change in ownerships.

I would know, I ebay-ed my old dell and the new owner did not have a problem turning to dell tech support :)

I think there building order, order, is like tetris... they need to clear the rows at the top (2/18 example) before clearing 2/5.

Coel you better get it shipped soon... i left the tank over there, you in case also need it to "help them out"

Forgive me for my ignorance, but I read through most of this thread, but did not find it directly stated. (It was alot of information and I am tired) Do you find out that yours is in boxing stage by calling in? The online status only says in production or shipped?

Thank you very much sir. It explains why on online status, my order states shipped, but the order details screen says in production. My order was placed on 19 feb and my first EDD was 25 Mar...now its revised to 5 Mar. My machine is the black su7300 4g ram win 7 pro with personalized nameplate. Knowing that it might be here friday I ordered the kingston SSD now v series 128 from the egg. Hopefully will be able to clone this weekend.

I think if you call the automated number it should tell you if you're in boxing stage or not? I believe boxing is still a part of production maybe.

Also, I'm still stuck in build stage. Together to the end Ceol.

Wow! Estimated Delivery Date: 3/3/2010 (updated). I selected 5-7 day free shipping. That's 1 day before my original esd(3/4/2010) and my original edd was 3/9/2010.

Some how it seems all the frustration of build hell has disappeared... maybe its the ice water.

Actually because Dell is the Owner of Alienware, the warranty is covered by dell. My M17X, when I purchased an extended warranty was through Dell Home and Service. You can transfer the warranty. That is one of the biggest ways to increase resale value for your laptop because it provides the potential customer with peace of mind that something can be fixed if something is broken. Many forum members have sold thier laptops and transfered their warranty.

Here is the link to ownership transfer
    https://support.dell.com/support/to...change_order/tag_transfer?c=us&l=en&s=gen&cs=

Take this sale transaction for example. Although it sounds like the wrong screen was used in the replacement. Since the warranty transferred all he had to do was call dell, and now they are sending a new screen.

    ;)

Yes, Dell owns Alienware but AW is a seperate entity with it's own policies. Their warranty policy is one of them. While you can transfer Dell warranties, it seems you can't transfer AW warranties. Sure a member here just contacted them to confirm, and they said it wasn't transferable.
I know, I know. I just wouldn't like another potential owner or buyer to see that information and think "Great, if a buy a 2nd hand AW, I'll get the warranty too (if it's still valid)" because it seems you won't.

EDIT: According to BatBay, you can transfer AW warranties.

I'm aware that Alienware are a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dell. However, they are a seperate entity and do not have to follow Dell's warranty policies unless Dell specifically change them.

    EDIT: See BatBoy's post below.

How about if I answer this -

If you purchase an M11x, M15x, M17x All Powerful system from a third party which has an active warranty, filling out Dell's Transfer of Ownership docs will transfer full ownership including warranty over to the buyer. Bear in mind, this has to be done by both parties - seller and buyer.

So, in short, the warranty is transferable.

    Ownership Transfer is here:
    http://support.dell.com/support/top...tag_transfer?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=anavml

    Warranty extensions are here:
    http://support.dell.com/support/top...?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=pub&~ck=anavml&servicetag=

For older systems - Area-51 systems, this does not apply.

Now, no more advertising for an eBay seller or warranty discussion in the Order Status thread.

If you want to discuss Dell Warranty or Ownership transfers - do it in the Dell Customer Service/Order Status forum - HERE:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1040

    Thanks.

OK, thanks for that BatBoy. I guess Alienware's warranty pages are wrong then? Why would they leave that information up though? The acquisition happened nearly 4 years ago now!

However, another reason I was so sure of it was because of this guy. He bought a new AW machine from eBay last year (not one of the older systems) and they wouldn't offer him any technical support or warranty coverage at all. But maybe the original owner didn't transfer the warranty himself and that's why he wasn't covered.

I disregard the AW site completely - its Dell. When you order the system, even if you hit the product page via Alienware.com it still routes you into the dell.com site. You are issued a Dell Service Tag along with an Express Service Code (which rubs off btw, lol. dont worry its still tied to your Service Tag). You can also convert your Service Tag (which can be found on the BIOS screen) to your Express Service Code using this dell.com page:

    http://support.dell.com/support/top...ems_info/express_service_code?c=us&l=en&s=gen

Note: you will need your Customer# and your Order# which is on your invoice and I suggest keeping those two #s in a safe place.

The person on slashdot probably did not transfer ownership and more than likely was calling AW for support and not Dell. There have been cases of M17xR1 owners who attempted to contact AW and met with resistance and vice versa. Its best to just call Dell for anything related to the purchase of your "All Powerful" system - be it support, accessories, parts, whatever.

If you need support, you call the # listed in the back of the owner's manual or you call Dell Support - Home Support or EPP Support, whichever you made your purchase through. Actually, you dont even have to worry - as soon as you enter your express service code the phone system will route the call to the correct support department.
