Nice, thanks Joker. Too bad there wasn't a game or two on it, but at least you got to see the build qualilty first hand.

Awesome so the SU7300 overclocks to 1.6Ghz from the BIOS. The review I was reading said to leave it running at 1.6Ghz because it didn't effect the battery much and the system didn't seem any warmer but it gave a nice performance boost. I can't wait for this laptop.

1.729 GHz to be exact. Bus is overclocked from 200MHz to 266MHz = 266 x 6.5 multiplier = 1729MHz. Even better. I'm not sure where all this 1.6GHz came from, as I've heard and seen it mentioned elsewhere too.

From what I seen in the review, the option drops the multiplier to 6. Which gives 6x266MHz, leaving the 1.6GHz everyone is talking about. Check out the CPU-z screen in the Hardware Heaven review :)

The Hardware Heaven has it listed @ 1.6 GHz:

Hmmm, I am curious. I thought the multiplier was locked for these chips. I wonder if it is possible to keep them at 6.5.

However, it should be noted that Veridian stated the following in the discussion thread surrounding the review:

"2) The OC on the review sample is 1.6GHz... as far as I know, the CPU will be OC higher on the retail models so you can expect slightly better performance in CPU limited areas. "

    http://www.hardwareheaven.com/hh-reviews/196228-alienware-m11x-notebook-review-hh-5.html

So my guess is that the retail version *may* be OC'd higher? - perhaps 1.73 and higher potentially? :D

Multiplier is locked so it cant go higher, you can always clock lower.

    But back here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5840492&postcount=1467

there was discussion of it being 6.5x266. So maybe you can engaged "overclock" mode which will just bump the FSB to 266MHz, and you can select 6.0 or 6.5 multiplier. GAH!

It would suck if you still had to use software to overclock if it can easily achieve 6.5x266 even though there's that BIOS option.

edit: The manual describes the bios option as follows but indicates nothing about changing multiplier:

    OverClock
Allows you to enable or disable CPU bus clock Over-Clocking.
Disabled: CPU bus clock is 800 Mhz.
Enabled: CPU bus clock is 1066 Mhz

thanks joker! if you haven't should post it in the owner's lounge, I'm sure people are dying to hear anything about the M11x. I'm actually very happy to hear from a NBR user that has experience with other AW's so we know what we're getting ourselves into.

Same here (keeping it on all the time) - Heck - they should have it OC'd by default when shipping from the factor.

I remember my first x286 PC - Back then they called it "Turbo" and it had a button on it forcing it from a whopping 10Mhz to 12Mhz... boy did that sucker scream.. :D

    So..

I actually *do* have a question.. :D - I've noticed others here that call in and the system tells them they're in the "build" stage. Mine says "Currently in Progress"...

Up until 2 days ago - my status on the website showed 3 different responses - depending on the page I was on:

    "In Production"
    "Pre-Production"
    "Work In Progress"

Now - all of the pages have been "synched" and they all state "In Production" - however, as noted above - throughout this entire time - the phone response has always been "Currently in Progress". I've checked my AmEx - yet don't see a charge/auth on the site there. (Though in past orders - I typically didn't get charged until the order was shipped).

So - I guess - my question is - what does the "Currently in Progress" status really mean? I've got an EDD of 3/11 - and everyone else that's noted they're in the build stage appear to have EDDs ahead of me (makes sense that they'd be in build before I would).

With my desktop order last year - it pretty much went from Pre-Production -> Kitting -> Production/Build -> Boxing -> Shipping. And the site was never out of whack between the various pages.

Additionally on one page - the EDD shows as N/A - whereas on all other pages - the EDD is/has always been 3/11 - as well as that date has been verified by a couple of reps that the EDD is 3/11 and nothing is wacky with the order. It just doesn't make sense that with this order the system appears to be out of synch - my only thought is because this particular unit is in a pre-order state.

    Ideas?

    @jsgiv

    call 1-800-283-210

    if you hear music, press 3 - 2 - 1 - 1, then your order #
    If no music, press 4 - 2 -1 - 1, then order #

With this phone method, you'll get more detail on where in the production your unit is.

    wait, are you US?

I wouldnt pay attention much to what stage it is since it isnt really correct from my past experience with aw. the only thing that i really trust is the edd since they will get your laptop out before that time unless u are really unlucky and there is a back order on a specific part.

wow was there a noticeable difference lol

I wouldn't trust that number if I were you. You want to know why? Because mine said it shipped on December 3rd ..... 1999. Can you say a big W, then T, and the F?

I guess Alienware is so powerful, that the system went back in time before Dell purchased Alienware, and they decided to ship it to me on December 3rd 1999 by way of NASA. Unfortunatly, the package will not get here because it fell on mars.

The M11X is a tad bit darker than the silver on the 15 and 17X, so Shadow is a better word for it.

Everyone should get there 11x on the EDD or a few days earlier, no worries for now :)

I'm thinking about this too. Her Inspiron is a dying breed. But would hope it is an iX based or it wouldn't be that much of a change. We are waiting a little for some news (aside from the M17 finish promised some days ago). It'd be a nice upgrade, and I could technically also "borrow" it :)

My wife could care less about the cpu. lol

She just wants a laptop that she can play "zombies" on (L4D2 in wife speak ;))

Perfect for her really. She has an original VAIO Z-520. Now, the P8400 would run circles around the SU7300, but she doesn't really do anyhing but play tetris online and L4D2, er, I meant zombies :D

Well, believe it or not, mine plays Crysis. Not hardcore but at least tries. And likes it. Also I shot myself in the foot because I complained so much that it wasn't iX when it was up for order that now she doesn't want it either unless it is with iX. I have no strength to convince her that the C2D is enough now.

Also she would benefit from a better CPU. I mean, she does work on her computer after all :/
