Since all of the M11x setups are multicore, that might be an important thing to turn on. Should give quite a boost me thinks.

i had no problems with the playability. there was only one short segment where it noticeably dropped. then again my threshold might be lower than others.

I haven't seen much discussion on it so can anyone tell me if it's worth it to get the Gobi Mobile Broadband? It sounds like a cool thing but I have an iphone and I've read that the sim card won't work for internet connection on the m11x. And just to clear it up, the Gobi option is separate from putting your sim card in and using your existing service, right? Kinda confusing.

thats quite disappointing that it went to 10fps on medium. i know this is only beta code but its starting to look like the m11x will struggle to play on medium let alone anything higher :-(. do you have a link for the youtube video ?

The Gobi option is how you connect your sim card to your existing service. So without it, you cannot connect.

The other thing to note is that the reps have said that if you do not get a Gobi card preinstalled, Dell does not put in the antenna for it. This means you cannot simply just buy one down the line and add it in yourself without a bit of trouble as the antenna supposedly is put inside the shell of the LCD lid.

@ashodd You do realized he is not actually running the game on the M11x? He is merely trying to emulate what he believes to be around what the M11x performance would on another laptop (with completely different hardware). It should not be taken with much clout.

I do appreciate what Eggs Scrambled is trying to show but it just is not the M11x. It is just completely different hardware altogether. Plus with the M11x arriving into our hands now, its just a matter of time before we get a proper user test of it.

Anyone have suggestions on screen protectors? I'm new to laptops and I have this thing with clean surfaces. I wouldn't want to scratch the plastic.

    I don't like shiny displays.

If I can convince myself to buy an M11x, I would also order an anti-reflective protection film for the display. For example the ARMR200 from 3M, but there are a lot more brands out there.

As for the size... the plastic protection of the display seems to be a lot bigger than the display itself. So a protection film should cover most of the front. Perhaps I will need a custom made film.

Yeah I was just going to buy a large one and cut to size then. I would opt to go anti-reflective also since I might be outdoors a lot with it.

i understand completely, but the hardware is in the same ballpark and its disappointing. Its not like its being run on an atom with some 5 year old g card.

lets hope egg gets his m11x soon so he can bench sc2 asap !

Go into CPU-Z, click on the SPD tab and tell us the max bandwidth of the DDR3 RAM. I very much hope they shipped this machine with PC3-8500 RAM.

Also, if you get another BSOD, write down the reason for the error and post it up.

Play your games, I'd rather know that the items coming off the production line are stable - crashing out of the box is worrying. The thought of having to call Japanese tech support fills me with far too much dread! :) Keep us updated anyway!

You need to disable automatic restart so you can actually see the blue screen. Click here.

Also, you can download CPU-Z here. I suggest running the system with the OC disabled when you're doing this. Once it's loaded go into the SPD tab and read out the max bandwidth of RAM. My concern is that the system has been supplied with 800MHz DDR3 but it's running it at 1066MHz OC'd. This would definitely cause a blue screen.

That's the original specification of the SU7300. It's not your actual core speed. If you look in the clocks section of the bottom left, you should see core speed, OC'd it should say 173X.XXMHz or something similar.

Your RAM (as Darkhan mentioned) is the right speed (1066MHz), so no worries there. To get more info you'll need to disable automatic restart and actually record some of the info from the BSOD. If you're not confident doing this, I suggest getting on to technical support. The machine is after all, only a day old.
    Thank you for clarification.
