To be honest 1.6 or 1.73 either way, I have not had any problems with the games I play. The other machines I tried I just checked the cpu under system prop. which shows 1.73 and not with cpu-z sorry for confusion.
-
@Darkhan
I think I understand you : on the 3d mark 2006 bench you can see the processor at 1,73Ghz , only CPU-Z report 1,6Ghz? strange -
Guys you think CPU-Z is maybe reading the cpu wrong being it might be different in a way and thats why it's reporting it a bit off?
-
cpu-z is NEVER wrong! LOL. But seriously, ive never had problems with it ...
-
Found another tool to check :
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/RightMark-CPU-Clock-Utility.shtml
Not sure...looking for other one
-
Try and use OCCT to check the CPU fsb and stuff
-
battery life??? People! Can someone test battery life?
-
I don't think CPU-Z is the issue. I think its an issue with the BIOS.
-
Correct 3dmark06 shows 1733
-
I ordered mine with 2GB of ram. Any recommendations on what RAM I should get?
-
Interesting conversation going on over here:
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=15998065 -
Man if any tech support hung up on me. The first thing I do is get their name and badge #. Let them hang up on you after that. Are you calling Alienware support or Dell. I am pretty sure AW support is better trained / can speak english.
-
I don't think I'm alone in saying I would MUCH rather get some actual game benchmarks (framerates with settings) than obsess over the Ghz of the cpu. Please someone post some recent games and their settings with the framerates. Honestly that is why MOST people are buying this thing. If you guys can squeeze .458643% more power out of it then that is wonderful, but the average person just wants to know how the games run on the production version. Thanks.
-
Agreed. I'm all for improving the OC'ing capabilities, but I feel that in game performance would ultimately be more beneficial to us all.
-
can anyone supply me an order # that was ordered on 2/3.. and is already shipped :/ or received ?
-
That is very interesting. This doesn't make senses why would AW down clock this CPU when AWs are meant for gaming and other laptops with the SU7300 run at the correct 1.73Ghz.
-
Very possible. CPUZ comes out with updates quite often, just for new CPUs coming out. It's quite possible there's a glitch were it's not being read correctly. If you have the current version of CPUZ, I belive there's an option to email the author or report an issue in the About menu.
-
It could well be. Have you guys realize there are two version of CPU-Z from the interested linked comparison? One is 1.52.2 and one is 1.53.
-
Guys, it's the same CPU. The later version of CPU-Z quotes the M11x's lower clock speed/multiplier. They're not going to downgrade a later version to include less functionality.
-
Is everyone running GT335M card while looking at the voltage? Could the integrated card be playing some role in this?
-
It does look like at this point that Alienware decided to undervolt and lower the multiplier for some reason. Very strange, ah well, hacked bios will fix it.
-
Kind of looks like Dell lowered the voltage to 0.9 and lowered multipler to 6x in order to get some battery life. Maybe battery life is really bad with stock voltage and 6.5 multi. Anyone check it yet?
-
Poor homebrewer. I think DELL just used the UK as a testbench for the first batch of m11x's.
The US isn't even getting shipments until next month - maybe this gives DELL time to fix any issues they've ran into with the UK?
I hope mine is working fine, I mean it doesn't come until the 17th of March FUUUUUUUUU- -
Just makes no sense, .1 volt wont do much, if anything it would be to reduce heat, but even that is a stretch. I don't understand at all.
-
@alive
through the order status thread, many US people have stated they have been shipped, since yesterday. so no, US shipments are coming out now. -
i am in US..already posted a couple of 3DMarks06 results...
-
really???
I thought the release date in the US was March 1, 2010?
It feels like I've been stuck on "In Production" for forever!!! -
@YZC what are your thoughts, happy? have you played any games on it yet?
-
anyone of you think a particular nvidia driver would improve the benchmark score?
-
Actually it is .15 or so and can be quite substantial as anyone who's big into overclocking know as little as .02 can cause your PSU to go into overcurrent protection and shut the computer down while running prime.
The difference wouldn't be as noticeable in idle mode and net surfing etc..but perhaps when gaming and the processor was being taxed 100% along with the 335m <- which Nvidia is always famous for making power hogs, the current draw could be too much.
Dell would have to intentionally lower the multiplier as the defaults are 4x and 6.5x so if the muli has been lowered to 6x there has to be a reason they did it. -
thanks for benchmarks YZC, now curious to see what the SU4100 does.. ppl complaining about no for more power yet want the SU4100 which supposedly has 5% less CPU power as SU7300, I guess we'll see in some benches.
@YZC, what drivers are you using btw? stock ones? Do you have driver info? I'm curious to see what it was shipped with. I suppose look on laptopvideo2go to see if they have any modded ini files for 335m -
very satisfied. no game play yet...
-
if anyone is interested i posted a bunch of fps on recent games after very brief runs back around page 115 (dragon age, mass effect, crysis, l4d2, the sims 3, borderlands)
just tried out batman AA as well and on max settings with AA off the beginning sequencd got me fps in the 20s although in the first battle i got in the 30s and low 40s -
thanks cottabe, I'll look for it. Can you post them in the benchmark thread? Same with you YZC, you're 3Dmark scores =)
-
Sorry if you mentioned but I forgot, did u OC and get those FPS?
-
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=459834
post your benchmark there
Thanks -
yea i did overclock it. windows systems shows it at 1.73 but i don't think cpu-z does
-
just posted all my benchmarks on 7+ games on the official benchmark thread
-
@cottabe thanks man borderlands is main game, seems it was ok running it ?
-
@Brian
I didn't really play too much but with shadows off the game ran a lot faster on the high settings. I only tried the beginning parts with the first couple of gun fights but i'd say there shouldn't be any significant problems if you played on medium. -
Make sure you post what processor you're using and how much RAM you have.
-
I take it yours is doing it's job, huh?? What are your thoughts on it - size wise and all?
-
@Freeride 600
yea mine is doing fine. at first when i took it out i was like omg that's tiny. but after thirty minutes or so i got completely used to the keyboard and screen size. granted if you watch a movie on half your screen and scroll the internet on the other half it's rather miserable considering i do that a lot but meh. -
why are windows and cpu-z showing different results? cant windows recognize the 6x multiplier... or did dell program it that way on purpose to fool users...? conspiracy ensues
-
Thanks for the game benchmarks. I've decided I'm going to spend $400 more and get an Asus g73 A1. It's kind of the exact opposite. A blazingly fast desktop replacement, but if I want a netbook I'll buy a used one as well. Later guys.

Nope.
This "OC nonsense" is critical in determining whether I'm keeping the m11x or not.
My ul30vt runs without a hiccup at 1.73 ghz, and if AW can't get their together and deliver a properly volted SU7300 that can handle this minor and easily attainable overclock, it's going back.
I've had just about enough of AW "screw ups" with my m17x. (Still waiting on a bios fix to even USE MY m17X NORMALLY) -
@saosin
I know, right? Alienware is supposed to be at the apex of gaming and all things OC related. -
SaosinEngaged Notebook Evangelist
...which is directly related to how the CPU performs ... -
Most likely not. The reason CPU-Z is the preferred choice is because it reads the core speed of the CPU directly. Other progams just use a series of calculations to attain that figure hence why it never variates (if you check CPU-Z, the speed is constantly changing). With the SU7300 using a factory standard 6.5x multiplier, you can work out the theoretical speed of the CPU with just the bus speed.
I don't think that was their intention. They never specified the actual core speed of the CPU, just the bus speed (in the manual). As the SU7300 uses a standard 6.5x multiplier to attain it's stock 1.3GHz, it was safe to assume it would do the same on the OC, but it seems it hasn't. -
Hi guys Ive been following this thread almost religiously since part 1 and I have to say I'm really disappointed with the fact that this machine cant handle OCing. I've been eagerly awaiting for this little guy to be delivered, but as for the most of you know all to well, I'm still stuck in the build stage. Thinking might just call and cancel my order - dammit I'm so depressed now. Gonna have to visit my old friend Mr. Daniels
