does it? i dont know if its me but the canadian alienware m11x is showing 800 mhz ;S.
-
CPU clock will overclock from 800 to 1066MHz. This will allow your RAM to move at 1066MHz.
-
the ram is fine buddy don't waste your money.
-
why am i just now noticing that this is only a 1.3 processor... My current m1330 is a 2.2 dual core (T7500)....will i notice a difference... i dont want to down grade... looks like i might be going m1340
-
Yes it's just a typo. The ram is 1033. It comes at 800 shipped but if you flick Overclock on in the bios it changes the CPU to 1.729 and ram to 1033.
-
automatically? Than what's the use of alienware putting 800Mhz on the list? also Im guessing even if I bought 1066 MHz ram it be useless, temperature voltage or any of the sort?
-
Your CPU is ranked 303 best, the Su7300 is ranked 393 best at stock speeds. At the flick of 1 button the SU7300 overclocks to 1.729 which is a 30% increase. So I think it will be pretty equal with the SU7300 having a much better battery life and the 335m providing alot more power.
-
Dude you don't need to buy any ram, it's only 45$ to go from 2gb to 4gb on the Alienware configuration just do that. Then when you get your system you flick 1 switch in the bios and it goes to 1033.
-
hm. alrighty thanks for the help xD i guess il still purchase the m11x tomorrow morning with a upgraded ram and cpu, and a intel gen2 ssd.
-
Oh wait one more question.. probably asked before but is anyone buying a CPU cooler of any sort and if not which would you recommend the best? because im assuming OCing the cpu to 1.73 and 1033 ram will change the temp by atleast some significance no?
and one more question xD changing that one bios setting im guessing your talking about the one with Overclock to on will automatically OC it to 1.73 and 1033? -
One review OCed the CPU from 1.3 to 1.6 and he said the temperature only went up by 1C so you don't need anything extra. And yes the overclock enabled will take it to 1.73.
-
1066, not 1033. 266x4 = 1066 (it's actually 266.66666~), 266x6.5multiplier = 1.729GHz for CPU.
-
Yeah my bad I meant 1066 not 1033. It's late.
-
I emit hot gasses from my body that are warmer than 1 degree C. Not worried about temp increases from oc'ing my m11x when it comes. Can't wait!
-
Ah sorry and ty, for the quick replies flipp said it was 1033 and kept wondering why he kept saying it because it wasn't possible so i started saying it too
.
Anyhow so the OC is automatic and only 1C increase? Amazing this notebook in my eyes look shinier by the second ; ).
btw sorry if i angered anyone it kinda sounded like i did or annoyed someone lol. -
Probably not when overclocked, but what are you using it for? M1330 uses what, an 8400m GS? The GTX 335M will run circles around that 8400m. If you need CPU power a lot more than GPU, then this isn't the computer for you.
-
335 Gt : P lol.
-
hey ive been reviewing the threads and seen some people mention Company Of Heroes. i used to be really into rts's back in the day before i got into consoles. is there a specific COH that is considered the best in your opinion? Lookin for which games ima get in addition to the valve complete pack on steam.
-
CoH I'm guessing your referring to Company of Heroes, is really good but i think there's really been a lack of players but overall is a really great game, and has 2 expansions to the game ( in my opinion the third one isn't worth it) it has a great campaign that portrays WW2 and its engine in gameplay is great, one of the best RTS games i've played in a long time. The RTS im waiting for right now is Supreme Commander 2 though, as the predecessor Supreme Commander was Amazing... truly amazing.. although i don't think the 2nd one will be as good...
sorry for the rant.. ;'P -
Even though its 11.6, the 1366x768 will help out the screen width even higher would be nicer, like 1600x900 like the sony z, now here comes the arguments again.
-
thanks for the info and yah Company of Heroes was the game I'm referring to, it was in the first sentence just didn't feel like typing the entire word out again later. i be a lazy mexican
-
I've heard that SupCom 2 will be sort of dumbed down a little for the consoles. The scale will also be reduced, probably to help it run on more machines and consoles. This has me pissed off, one of the reasons I loved SupCom was the sheer scale of some of the battles you could have. Not happy.
-
8400m correct. i do a lot of excel work in my labs and for school as well as a lot of music and media... i haven't played a computer game in quite some time.
my M1330 has been the perfect comp for me. it just recently had some problems so i want to upgrade. I like the 13'' size better then the 15''+ even for daily use. SO im looking in to the m11x and the m1340.
the m1340 im looking at has Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 and a 9500M -
Just out of curiosity,
I didnt get the bluetooth for my M11x and im kinda regretting it (really want the Orochi now), so im just wondering if a) I could transplant my bluetooth card from my M17X and stick it in my M11x, like would they be the same/compatable or b) purchase one later from Dell at a reasonable price. I REALLY do not want to cancel my order over this thing.
Thank you so much!
-
You can always buy a small usb bluetooth receiver.
-
It should work.
-
@sum
I'm on the same boat. I ordered when there was an error in the dell order page and there was no option for the internal bluetooth. I am contemplating getting a bluetooth receiver and leave it permanently in one of the 3 USB spots. THey are cheap and discrete.
This is one that I'm looking at:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...t_shr?_encoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance -
Oh Awesome!!!
This will be my first dive into bluetooth territory, and I didnt even know they made those USB recievers, thought they just had to be a big card inside your laptop..... doh!
so if i got one of those like in the link, it should work fine with the Orochi then? cooool!
Also are they all pretty much the same, or are there a few brands/models that are better or reccomended?
-
yea they come small enough like those nano recievers for your wireless mouses. You can just leave it permanently plugged in. the only downside is of course, you lose 1 usb port. i also didnt choose bluetooth because i have no use for it. On the m15x i never used the blue tooth one, and on my desktop i have a bluetooth dongle permanently in 1 of the usb slots buts its never used either
-
All CoH are good. It's basically the same game engine, just different scenarios and units added. I recommend getting them all.
Well if you don't plan on games, then you might be better off going with a laptop with a more powerful CPU. The 9500M will manage most games just fine at 1366x768 with medium to low settings too. But if you want to play ANY graphics intensive games, then the 9500M probably won't cut it.
The main appeal of the M11x is the powerful GPU in a very small form factor. The SU7300 will manage Excel stuff no problem, as well as music and media (assuming movies) just fine. It just won't be as quick or powerful as a full fledged Core 2 Duo like the P8700. But battery life is probably better on the M11x. -
dont know if anyone has seen this or even cares haha but a good deal 3 old school games fa free!
http://kotaku.com/5471158/three-original-command--conquer-games-are-now-free -
In the HH review, they tested playing an HD movie at 1080p via HDMI out. The CPU averaged roughly 70% and spiked at 94%; however, after they activated CoreAVC the average CPU load dropped to an amazing 15%.
The best $10 you could spend if you play a lot of HD movies. -
sigh. I was hoping the battery was covered under warranty since its is not user replaceable. Aside from that, I plan on ordering one by the end of next week and was wondering on 2 things:
1) more ram or a SSD?
2) what is the limit on time that I can upgrade the warranty and should I.
Thanks a lot and Happy Chinese New Years -
get the Intel X25-M Gen2 SSD.... If you can get a 4Gb RAM... thats what im doing.. or if i really had to choose id choose 4gb ram over ssd if you had to take 2gb ram ;S.
-
hard to say ive been asking muyself the same thing. granted the sony z has more cpu grunt and the m11x has more gpu grunt i guess it depends on the game some games for example rts will fair better on the sony z and fps will do better on the m11x due to the games being more cpu or gpu dependant. hard to say tho being that no one has an m11x in front of them to test my theory
lol
-
Argh. Either way the Sony Z is a 13" and twice the price. If money is no object then it might be a hard decision, but if you use it for gaming, then due to the GPU will favor the M11x 90% of the time.
-
I agree htwingnut. i have a strange feeling that im beating a dead horse lol
-
It's been 2 weeks now hasn't it??
-
no 10 char
-
Its on preorder won't arrive til after March 1
-
ok cool, thanks for the heads up, cant wait to see first benching and reviews.........first hand, no bias..........LOL

shopping on the EPP site, the options are for either 4 or 8 gb of ram and for HDD, 500gb 7200 rpm or a 256 ssd.
from the 4-8 gb is an additional 270$ while the 500gb to 256gb ssd is 378$. -
Go for 4GB of ram; I've havent seen a game that requires more than 4GB.
As for the SSD, it's a good deal at that price. An Intel 160GB goes for around that price too. If you don't wanna change the HDD yourself; get the Samsung. -
Does anyone know what brand or model SSD the m11x comes with?
-
it comes with a samsung ssd i forget what model
-
Samsung OEM for Dell. PM800 Series.
If you're looking for something on a budget, like I was, consider a GSkill Falcon or OCZ Vertex (both the original versions, not the 2nd revisions which are actually slower). Very good value for the price.
Intel X25-M 2nd gen if you've got some extra to spend. -
hey, lately there has been alot of talk about the option to oc your cpu to 1.729 with an increase in the mhz consumed. there hasn't been much talk about actually undervolting it to help with battery life and temperature issues. my question, since i am not the most computer savvy person out there, is can/should this be done? I'm asking this because according to the word around the grape vine there is actually an option in the bios that automatically changes the processing power and voltage(fsb in the bios menu???)instead of having to change the cpu and voltage separately as you would in another computer. I think that this would be vital information as i'm under the impression that undervolting can visibly help temp. and battery performances. any clarity with this issue would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

The SU7300 is of a newer generation i think, so it will be almost as fast:
SU7300 has 995 passmark: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+SU7300+@+1.30GHz
Your T7500 is 1269 passmark: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+SU7300+@+1.30GHz
If you overclock the SU7300 to 1,73 ghz it will a little faster (and if it's really only 1,6 ghz thats possible, it will be about the same speed). -
It's the samsung PB22-J 256GB. See a review here:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/256gb-samsung-ssd,2265-3.html
I think it's doing quite well. But not fully on-par with the intel ones (which are noticably more expensive however). -
I thought about getting an SSD now - but I believe the bubble's about to burst a bit this year. There's a lot of exciting technologies being introduced with SSDs this year. I believe it'll start with the new OCZ Vertex 2 Pro:
http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=3702&p=1
Which is due out March/April. This same article indicates that the expectation is set for much lower prices in the next 3-6 months.
I'm hoping to get a 100-160gb (either Intel or OCZ) in the $150-$200 range in this time period - assuming the prices drop as much as I believe they will once this new version is introduced.
We'll see!
