that last i posted was my dual core and the others are my quad core. as you see my gpu scores dropped alot from going to dual to a quad.

Doesn't install on mine. It's says I have the same driver or better already installed.
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
don't install that one guys is 9.7 drivers
-
I think I'm currently using 9.9, if not then 9.11. Don't know why 9.7 is part of Windows Update. They're a few months behind.
-
I have done some more bench and test and I see that my M17x is suffering about stuttering just when I OC the CPU with a terrible FPS drop. (also if my OC is about 10mhz)
I want also to ask you wich nvidia driver is better for a single gtx260 configuration. I see that in futuremark bench 195.62 driver are better that 186.81 but in-game the performance of 186.81 driver seems to be much better.
Is that right?
I also experience a wrost DPC latency after installing the new bios A02 is that possible? Now I have some 54.xxx absolute value like every3/5 second.
May be I am a little OT Iam sorry for that. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
what am i missing here?
shed some light on me. -
CPU score looks normal. SM2 and 3 are low. GPUs are stock? Try a different driver see if it changes. Do you see stuttering during the test?
Also, are you using a notebook cooler? -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
to the left is the quad core run and the right is the dual core run. same everything. stock gpu's.
-
Did you have different pci-e settings?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
nope. it's at 2,500 like always. i didn't do anything except change the affinty like scook decribed in the last page. i have to fiddle around and see what's up...
-
So your "dual and "quad" is the same proc?
Doesn't this point back to the quad/sli issue with 3dmark06? -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
yes. i'm looking into it now.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i give up for now. i have like 5 new games i want to play.
sf4 quad maxed
dual maxed
i still have to find the breaking point for the quad. -
Also need to find better drivers than the aging Dox drivers.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Indeed. I tried several versions and settled on the 186.24 for 3DMark06. I do not remember what version of physx I used with it. Different physx versions will effect your fps as well, even though it is not being utilized
-
Well I found myself a new driver. Take a look at this stock run.

I think my plan of action is to stay as is on the M17x and wait for the next wave of cards. The M17 I plan to get though, I think it will still enjoy some 4850s (the best MXM 2.1 has to offer
)
-
it's an over clocking monster from what i have seen. and to a bencher...that's a dream come true. it will be the fastest 4850 carded machine, if not the fastest in the world...but that still seems to be open for change...

and there may be something to the cpu thing...or you haven't mastered all the little tricks with it....who knows....give it a few days
edit:
not sure if you guys are up on this one, but it seems to be a pretty cool benchmark...does dx9 up to dx11 and opencl
i think this one would be a good one to add to the list.

this one is all gpu and pretty brutal on them at that....give it a try and lets see what comes back. -
God job Rengsey. Vantage loves the 9.12 driver. Now there's no excuse not to hit 14K GPU.

Today is my last day and I'll be off until next year. I plan on doing more Vantage runs tonight and through the weekend with the M17x and the Cat 9.12 drivers with both the T9900 and QX9300. Hope you guys will be on tonight shooting for that 14K score.

. . .well, I guess this is a query best suited for such a thread.
X9100 vs. QX9300, within the paradigm of overclocking. Just hear me out before you guys start gut-laughing, because I can fathom the true power of the QX9300 just fine. I know that technically, one CPU is clearly superior to the other.
You see, I want to add one of the aforementioned CPUs to a 280m GTX SLi configuration, but going by the general posts, the QX9300 is a bit of a hit or miss when it comes to overclocking. This is why I am concerned and conflicted about the choice.
Obviously, I'd like to maximise SLi performance and be able to overclock the GPUs a little without hitting any bottlenecks or issues. Also, I wouldn't mind playing something like GTA IV, or other games specifically designed for quad cores, but not with groundbreaking frame rates. I am willing to compromise with such titles using a faster dual core, so long as the frame rates are steady and stable.
Taking all this into consideration, would an X9100 manage to hold up well for such demands? -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
-
If you want to play GTA4 at all id stick with the Qx9300 as its really a multi threaded app and plenty of stuff coming will take advantage of the Quad..
If you bought the X9100 you might enjoy it at first but later regret it so just jump straight to the Quad and get it over with .. -
Kade Storm The Devil's Advocate
Thanks for the input, dude.
Yeah, I read up on the T9900. I do want to overclock, and the X9100 has the unlocked multipliers. I am currently running the X9000 on my M1730 at max and it's perfectly cool and stable thanks to the full-blast fans. I'd like to duplicate this setup and feel on the M17x.
Heh, thanks for the tip, Quadzilla. I wouldn't have expected anything else from you, and you are spot-on about the long-term benefits of the QX9300. I'd like one that I could push, perhaps to the 3.0 GHz mark without suffering the drawbacks. Any ideas? -
With Mandrakes helpful tips you should be able to run it all day at 3.07 without any issues and 3.2 for benching etc... Honestly though every Qx9300 is going to hit 2.93 just at the multiplier and for day to day that is more then enough...
-
When I had the x9100 I wasn't able to change the multipliers and keep it stable. Maybe you'll have better luck. That is the reason I've been recommending the T9900. I can run it at 3.5Ghz with no issue and less heat.
The quad core brings some drawbacks along with it's advantages so if your willing to take the bad with the good then you can go that route. If you like to benchmark then the QX9300 is a MUST. -
Take a look at this post. LINK
-
Kade Storm The Devil's Advocate
2.93 or 3.0 sounds fine to me, as I need this for day-to-day.
In fact, I plan to start with just the stock setting and move up as software gets more and more demanding.
I run my current X9000 at maximum, because the overclock setting makes the BIOS force all the system fans to run at constant maximum. This is an excellent cooling solution for the M1730 GPU, which are prone to problems. It would be nice to have such an option with the M17x at a later point when it is needed.
Edit 1:
Thank you for the link, Mandrake. I get what you've said, and personally, I'd prefer a balanced approach--good with bad--rather than just pure speed that'll only produce short-term benefits. I still have to think this one through though.
Edit 2:
Forgot to ask. Do the system fans go into constant maxmimum mode when using an overclocked extreme CPU on the M17x? -
No they wont go full blast till you start playing some games at which point you might want to build a sound proof room from all the noise
ITS LOUD!!!!
..
Getting a cooler though might help keep the sound at bay... -
I heard complaints about the M17 but I think the M17x is louder.
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
with the cooler is double noise quad, imagine 6 fans running at max
