Man, I can't even come close to my highest vantage run, even with the same specs. Gotta figure something out...

P.S. Best part of Vantage...The chick running towards the cam :D

haha, cuz it's necessary to bench against the important things in life. Then you know how good your machine really is.

Why should benching be completely boring? lol

Praetorian, to install the Dox drivers you need to have the 9400m disabled in BIOS. The dell 186.64 however are not that awful, just will not set any records. This was with them :)

Yeah John. It's 45F here in N. Cali. I just have to do with what I could with a laptop cooler.

I could go up to at least 3.37x Ghz -3.38x Ghz in this kind of weather, but could not run Vantage or 3DMARK06, cause cpu is burning up. I need to go up on the hill or something...lol

I couldn't sleep so I ran bench marks all night. Hardly ever got through a run without hanging up on something. Thought I had CPU stable then I would hang on GPU tests. Get a good GPU setting only to hang on CPU. I havn't even come close to my highs. They may have just been luck :p And I'm running the A/C with the laptop standing on it's side. Maybe I'm getting it too cold lol. I was wearing sweats and a hoodie. Now I just need to get my laptop LCD connection seated. Took it apart for cleaning and getting no display and LED codes. At least I have the warranty (CC) and I'm on day 21.

Rengsey, do you play with voltages? I'll have to check out the score more closely when I get off work. I can only see it from your sig. Stupid filters on the internet at work  Nice job man. We're creeping up, maybe eventually we'll hit Mandrakes 14K+ GPU score. You going to replace your M17X since your selling it?

Edit: I've had some serious insomnia lately so if I make no sense that would be why. Perhaps it's because my mind is preoccupied with BSOD, Jane Nash running, and numbers...memory dump...

    :D

Seriously, first page of thread needs to have fine print- "Side effects of benching may include loss of sleep, time spent doing anything considered 'productive' by the world, connection with said world, friends, family, pet's livelihoods, drop in school performance, weight gain/loss, hair gain/loss, and death."

And then it gets REALLY good when you keep yourself up at night after trying to fall asleep calculating exactly how many frames in total you need to hit for Jane Nash/New Calico to go up, knowing that they run in total XXX seconds....

Actually related to scoring- okay, I'm at a wall. For some reason CPU seems to hate going above 1240/1240/10, will BSOD halfway through the CPU tests, and my GPU's are sticking at the same clocks as before, still haven't gotten past 11.7k with them. All of this with the damn window open to Northern German weather and the temperature in my room down to about 15 degrees. My Coke is literally freezing on my desk. I think I'm getting pneumonia...but I want to get these up!

hair gain? If that was true we'd be millionaires!

You say it's 15 degrees but are you using a notebook cooler? That will help push the cold air into the system. Also remove the bottom panel.

Have the Cryo LX sitting right underneath it going full blast (I have it connected to my other laptop so it stays powered on even when the M17x crashes and reboots), but will try removing the bottom panel.

Also, you obviously haven't seen what I look like after a week locked up in my room benching. It's like Grizzly Adams miniaturized. :p

My apologies. Sometimes I forget that were I not living in Germany and back home in the States, I wouldn't even be able to legally drink yet... :p

On another note, is it helpful to turn off the Integrated 9400m when benching even if you've got a driver that is perfectly fine with the Hybrid SLI? Does it help/hurt performance at all?

Is it possible to get the laptop too cold? Is there an optimal temp? I'm running the A/C on it no keyboard, and it doesn't seem to help. I'm thinking there is an optimal temp for these things. I run the same specs and my scores get worse and worse

Yes it can get too cold. If you see condensation start forming on your screen...it got too cold. :)

...then you better hope parts don't start failing like SSDs.

Well the thing is, cooling too far will keep the machine from starting (tried this in the lovely 0 degree weather of wyoming) and upping the voltage pretty much at all will result in stuttering

So there really is a limit to how much performance you can expect from the machine

i never change the voltages on the cards just the clock and memory thats why i don't get better scores, i like to play games and that's what i do i have 9 games installed now :)

well you change the voltages to get the overclock stable at higher speeds, but the stutter pretty much makes it a moot point

with the ATI's i don't have stutter when i reach the max clock the screen just frezes i know if i up the voltage on the cards is going to pass the benchmark with better scores i just don't think is need to push my system that hard

Using ATI flash when I up the GPU voltage to 1.15 I can get a higher clock, but it eventually freezes. I've also noticed that my FPS will dip into single digits and stutter with increased voltage.

    260 < 4850 < 280 < 4870

The biggest difference is the cooling with the M17x will give you better production.

You really think the 280m is better then the 4850? What vantage scores did you get from a single 280m OC? Cause from I've seen, the 4850 creams it in vantage.

That's why I am interested in single gpu performance, not crossfire/sli.

I'm in the process of finding the max oc of the alienware 4850 at default voltage and at 560/1000, i got this:

Core probably can't be pushed much higher but you memory should be able to go higher. I can't really help further since 99% of my testing was with dual GPUs. My new 4850s should be in by Friday.

When pushing the 4870's is there a ratio to keep as far as core/mem? I generally have the mem about 1.6-1.7 times great than the core.

see here... :D...our definition and a womans definition are two entirely different things...you can't be playing benchmark king and think that's spending quality time...you have to be sitting there watching what shes watching and doing what she is doing for it to count... :D

that's a trick question...it probably went both ways...haha (she stated looking at him crazy for looking even crazier..when jane nash crashed on the last 15 frames 15 times in a row...hahaha

and she keeps asking that same question a lot of wives and girlfriends are asking....

    who the hell is mandrake!
