seriously though, i havent been so obsessed with a new piece of technoldy since the palm pre came out
i cant wait for this
and have been looking for the perfect laptop case to fit such a wonderful piece of technology!

 

I gotta tell you man, I couldn't sleep last night, the past month I've been on edge, I think waiting for my comp gave me some health issues... true story!

Haha, wait till you start calling the order status number 10+ times daily hoping for an update... it drove me crazy.

 

Yo, hold up here. I can 2nd and attest to the whole health problem while waiting. I've been losing my mind for 2 weeks. Why has my order been with UPS since Thursday, and is supposed to be delivered Wednesday to central london, but I've been staring at this status for 5 days

Still nothing! Off to bed and hoping for a shipping status change tomorrow - They told me to expect delivery Wednesday but no change in status leaves me nervous

 

I custom ordered a car once and obsessed for 3 months, second guessing every decision. 4 weeks seems like nothing compared to that.

ok, my new Red Monster arrived tonight! I have to say I had the silver and the red is AWESOME!! I can also confirm its ati gddr3 cards as stated from ati catalyst software reports gddr3. I am happy anyways and glad the agonizing wait is over.

ATI's are definitely shipping, i'm receiving mine tomorrow. Dell just called me to pick up my M1730, but I was like uh.. I havent recieved the M17x Today, and shipping status hasnt changed on UPS so who knows if I will get it tomorrow. Call me back tomorrow.

 

Scheduled to ship in 2 days. Still in the "Build" stage. Is this normal?

One last thing....If you ordered through a rep he can tell you the REAL status...my rep was able to tell me when it was in testing, when it passed...what stage of building etc...loads more details then the phone status system. If you called in your order or used a rep try he or she as they will give you a better idea!

 

I wish I had done that, but I ordered online. I've been calling a number that's supposed to give "detailed" status updates, but so far everything is still in the Build Stage.

 

yes, that is all you will get from the online status system....You could try and call them and see if they will tell you if its in testing and any eta on a transfer from malaysia to the states...

I knew Dell customer service was bad, but i had no idea how pathetic it truely is.

If my order is going to be delayed, id like to know, i do not want to have to chase up why its delayed.

Couldnt the sales rep ring and say, there is a processor shortage, ETA is ..... If you want to put it in production right now we have these processor options in stock right now...

How do these morons that can barely speak English keep their jobs... sigh.

GahhhH! Supposed to be delivered today, supposedly shipped from Alienware on Thursday (Ship date says 10/29). Well, UPS shows that it was sitting around Friday, then Monday, even YESTERDAY - FINALLY Moved last night to Great Britain from Netherlands and now my delivery date was bumped until tomorrow.

Ya know, UPS Sucked in the USA, and when I Saw they were my shipping carrier I suspected they'd suck in Europe too. Guess what - They suck. My beast is 5 miles away from me right now in Barking, but I can't pick him up from the Depot because UPS told me they need to try to deliver it once before I can pick it up and that first delivery is scheduled for Tomorrow. I was like guys you're 5 miles away let me just pick it up... No sir.. tomorrow.. despite the fact that I called them at 9 AM and we have an entire working day to get this stupid thing 5 miles to my house.

Ahh.. one more day... Champagne goes back in the fridge..

Well, According to dell, the m17x they are replacing my m1730 with was ordered on 10/28, of course the website says 11/03. No estimated arrival date has been given.

My other problem is I dont think my replacement matches my original:

M1730- T8300, 4gb ram, 160gb HDD, 1920x1200, Dual 8800m GTX.

m17x- t9600, 4gb ram, 250gb HDD, 1920x1200, Single 260m

The customer service lady told me that changing this would delay my order for an unknown period of time, and that if I press the issue once I recieve my order, they can send out a new video card afterward.

I've already lost money on a cancelled project, and now others are in peril, why do I see myself in december waiting for a system and stuck with a lackluster card to boot?

Any advice?

 

Call her back. Change it anyway. You're at the beginning of your order cycle so whats a few days difference?

Tell her you had SLI and you expect dual graphics cards. I had to do this too, they tried to give me a single 260M too. Rep said the value of the computer is what they go on. I had to pay 170£ to get an extra ATI 4870 GPU and 3 years of warranty.

Edit: OTOH, you're getting a way better CPU with twice the l2 cache and big speed boost, and a bigger HD so its up to you to fight, and considering SLI shows 0-40% increase.. its up to you how much you want to get into it. Can always upgrade later

Another update on my order: Still in production, still in build. I checked online and the EDD is 11/11/2009 not 11/5/2009. 2 weeks in build 10 working days. At this rate I think I'm going to be delayed again. So much for the live sales rep theory, although I did get a better deal.

 

I'm guessing people who ordered the P8600 or T9600 are getting delayed.

 

I had T9600 and mine went through in a week (shipping on the other hand, ugh, another week.)

 

I hope mine goes through in a week. I ordered the qx9300.

I finally got Dell to cancel my duplicate order for a full refund. Other one is still supposed to ship tomorrow, but it's still in the "build" stage. We'll see about that.

I see, thanks for that. I myself am still partial to owning the physical media. Regardless, I have never tried crysis and I look forward to gaming it.

 

Crysis 2 should be more impressive honestly, I'd wait instead of buying the first one if you haven't already. They might even make it a combo pack like WoW did, never know.

Either way your laptop should easily run it. I just hope mine will when it gets here.

 

Follow-up:

After 1 hr of being transferred and a combined time of 36 minutes of them "checking" on the computer every time they ask for a number, my name, etc. I have convinced them that a 260m is not a suitable replacement for dual 8800m's they have agreed to give me dual 280m's

However, I need to recieve the computer first, then contact them to send a tech out to replace the card. No biggie on that one, they were always lightning fast when it came to my m1730.

BTW, why is it like trying to get through the Patriots defensive line anytime you need to be transferred to any appropriate department? I literally spent 42 minutes on hold to try to get to alienware tech support, only to have my phone die...

But OMFG once I was actually transferred to alienware sales, top-notch service. Dell could save a lot of money hiring a relatively few native-speakers rather than the 100's of confused, script-reading, slow-computer having, outsourced workers. -I guess I'm speaking to the choir aren't I? unless you guys enjoy them...
