Well I got the dreaded order delay email from Dell. My revised delivery date is now 11/17 which isin't to bad. Now, if it gets delayed again and as much as I want this system, I will lean heavely towards cancelation. I'll play it by ear I guess.

Aren't you afraid that by cancelling you'll be put back in line and have to wait another 3 weeks?

Well when I mean cancel, I mean cancel and not buy one. I would wait for a future time to buy one again. im just kind of hesitant because its not everyday they offer 18 months no interest. Thats basically whats keeping me right now for the most part. Well that and the fact that I dont know if I will be able to get as a good a deal as I got on this system on a future system.

Hmmm that is an option offcourse. And maybe in Q1 2010 they will offer the M17x with the i7 procs and other stuff... Might be worth the wait.

Even if you cancled and ordered next summer... there will still be a wait, and there will still be parts delays on whatever top end components are out.

There will always be a better part out within a few months of a purchase. You have to just choose a SKU and go with it. I decided to get an M17x with the best options they had on the day Win7 was available pre-installed. I am sure it will be outdated in 3 months.

Yeah I'll get some stock benches in. In order to get everything tweaked I need my SSD.

My Crucial M225 had to be RMA'd, so I feel your pain. Going back to platter based OS host is truly painful, especially since I've experienced SSD performance.

It really does completely change the machine.

Maybe expedited free next day is something they tell everyone to shut us up. At this rate it will be my Christmas gift to myself. At least I have my old E1705 back up and running. I can't ever turn it off again, but it is up and running for now.

I just got pushed from a ship date of 11/11 to 11/17 without explanation. I called and asked for one or for it to be expedited.

The polite lady from India was fairly unhelpful. I didn't expect much and she delivered on my expectation. = /

Mine is FINALLY built. EDD is 20th of Nov, in which it should come earlier than that.

Its been a terrible process thus far, if it comes broken or i have to tweak the thing to even be acceptable.... *grabs sword*

Got the dreaded Delayed email the other day. It should have shipped by Tuesday if it was suppose to meet the new EDD. So, I called Dell and had them cancel the order. The rep didn't even ask why or if there was any way to save the order. After I told him I wanted to cancel, it was dead silence, taping away at the keyboard. Then "Your order has been cancelled, is there anything else"... Click. Nice customer service. Although I still want the laptop, they're extending the interest free option till the end of the month plus I wanted my machine with the dual gpus. So, I'll wait to reorder.

^^^They did have "no interest for 18 months" back in October. I decided to buy during that time period to take advantage of that. I see now its 12 months, but im sure they will offer 18 months again sooner or later.

Impatient American Consumer i am... So, I went ahead and reordered through a rep this time vs online. I got the nebula red special edition build to save the extra $100 for getting the dual 260M slis. I didn't want to save money now and end up paying more later if I wanted the extra card. But, I got the free TactX headset and mouse with this bundle. Plus got interest free DPA for 12mo vs 18mo...but I was planning to have it paid for before a year anyway, so it wasn't a loss.

    New EDD 12/7 - $2399 w/ free shipping.

I ordered on the 5th and they said they didn't have any promotions going, but they had free shipping so whatever. Maybe I should be mean to them next time I order.

I saw the headset/mouse free bundle on the website when I was going through the configurator, so when I talked to the rep, I confirmed with her and she said yes, it's included. Must have been a recent add because I never saw it until today.

Yeah, the mouse looks cool, i'll enjoy that. But the headset is a bit big and bulky. Not exactly the kind of headset you throw in the fit of rage when you die while raiding. My headset now atleast is slim and lightweight, it's survived a couple hearty throws in it's lifetime. LOL.

I feel your pain... but you're not alone, lots of people (me inc) have been getting them. Gotta love the mechanics of economics... Dell must not have expected such a burst of orders for these machines and their part suppliers have probably cut back production so much because of the global economic conditions, so us consumers are affected. Supply and Demand = eeeevul

So I just logged in to check my order and it showed "CHANGED" with no delivery date. I now have an all new order listed showing a delivery date of 12/14.

I of course got right on the phone with Alienware, got bumped to a supervisor, and he stated that there is a problem with the Blu-ray player (not burner) which has caused all orders to be resubmitted. He could not give me anything more definite than that, though he claims my system will be in my hand by the *end* of this month. I am extremely pissed off. I would think that spending $6000 on a computer would net you at least a little service.

I'm planning to call back tomorrow to see if they have a revised ship date. If not I'll be canceling. There are some decent Sager's out at the moment. I'll miss the dual gpu's but the i7 will dry my tears.

Anyone else running into this excuse / line of B.S. at the moment?

I think Dell/Alienware seriously underestimated the number of people who waited to order there Alienware systems until Windows 7 came out. I waited 2 months before ordering it because I didn't want Vista or having to upgrade to Windows 7 on the M17x.

I wish Dell could provide more info on where the specific system is in production. Specifically days to completion, with updates. For me, I was told last week my system is to be completed Friday Nov 13 (perhaps the date indicates bad news is a coming). I'll find out tomorow if its being shipped or not.

I ordered this system to replace my Dell XPS M170. After reading the threads on this website about the M17x issues I'm hoping I didn't make a mistake.

After reading your post, I checked the Dell website and I see that they canceled my original order and resubmit it today.

I spoke with the Dell CSR and all I got was apologies and no explaination of what happen other than production team said they couldn't meet the schedule. I have a phone meeting scheduled with Dell tomorrow to cancel.

I think, I going to wait a couple of months for the system to settle down. After reading about the M17x issues, I don't have a warm and cozy feeling about this system at this time.

I got the same thing, Changed online. When I phone in it comes up as canceled. Thing is, I don't have a blu-ray player, or burner on my system. So I think everything is just messed up in general.

I'm now looking at a Sager with the P975 I7. Great looking system and cheaper, but I'm reluctant to give up the Crossfire cards. That system will only allow a single 280m 1gb.

I need a system before the end of the year so I can't wait for dual gpu i7's either. I guess the phone call with Dell tomorrow will help me decide. = /

I think the order delays on the m17x's are due to the high amount of system replacements for m1730's, it looks like once the 8800gtx's went on back-order until 1/10, they have been swamped replacing machines.

Kind of sucks that Dell completely f's itself over like that, bad customer service, traitorus outsourcing, and bait and switch.

I have the whole changed and reorder date as everyone else now with a mid december delivery date. This is the exact system system I want, so I will wait it out. I just hope it doesn't get delayed past Christmas, since that is what it is actually for.

wow....I feel for you guys...I waited a little over a month for mine. It seemed some of you got edd of about 2 weeks after the date of purchase. I guess it just takes a solid month to see one of these systems. Not unlike the alienware of old which always took a month for the phase game! You would think that they would have seen the demand go way up and order some extra stock? I would have thought they would have had some preconfigured builds ready for 48 shipping by now. They did this with other alienware machines?

Good luck to all....and seriously its worth the wait! I could not imagine going sager or something similar just for a few extra weeks wait. Most of you will have this laptop for at least 2 years right? Also, remember if you cancel and change your mind you end up at the END of the que.

    Hang in there!

When Dell rang me to say its being delivered on monday, they neglected to say.. my router, my laptop is getting here on thursday.

I never thought a buying experience could be this bad, let alone a supposed "premium" system.

Never touching Dell again, and i was even about to set up a business account for work to purchase quite a few machines... glad i dodged that bullet.

They are different when it comes to corporate accounts, as most systems are pre-configured.
