Edit: Awesome. I called at 1:30PM CST and now it is changed to shipped. so maybe i will even have it by this weekend. anxious to get a tracking number and check it out later. -

Anyway to recap: Web order #1 on 10/17, canceled on 11/23 and reordered due to delays and poor support. Reorder shipped on 11/30 and now I have it! Gratz to all who also have theirs and good luck to those still waiting. See you all in the owners lounge. -

OH wonderful. My order has been delayed yet again. Big surprise there. But it's strange...the delay date isn't a full week like it has been showing. it's gone from 11/13, to 11/21, to 12/1, to 12/8, and now it's only up to 12/11...it only went up three days. and of course I'm sitting on the phone right now waiting for a customer sales rep to help me figure out why my laptop is in delay. Because I put a post not 2 or 3 posts ago saying that Dell told me that my laptop was on high priority and that there were no further delays forseen...bullcrap.
I'm at a loss. I can't even turn back and cancel it. Dell is just dangling this beautiful thing in my face and I can't even have it. total bullcrap. -

Just relax you'll get it soon.
Keep in mind this is the one major CON of ordering online a custom computer from Dell. You have to wait.
The PRO is that you're not one of the masses who overpays for last year's tech at Best Buy for instant satisfaction, and by waiting you get the latest and greatest for fair costs, not inflated retail costs. Its not cheap but you are getting lots of last gen stuff (i7 debate aside) and you're getting it at market price, not Best Buy or Circuit City price.
Just be patient it's worth the wait. It's a fantastic machine. -

Man I'm finally restoring my health. the 3 weeks from ordering to recieving was one of the most unhealthy periods of my life in terms of obsessively checking Dell Order Status and reading about the M17x.

I think I might cry
I was checking my tracking today and it was on the truck for delivery and of course no one is home to accept it. My apartment manager accepts FedEx/UPS but according to tracking it wasn't accepted by them. I can't issue a willcall because they don't send the packages back to the sort facility so I have to wait until Saturday to get it (fortunately they will since it's home delivery method). I was hopeing to have it tonight so I could play with it but NO M17x FOR YOU!!!!

Could someone check something for me? When tracking your parcel via the dell site there is a link to the packing slip.Click on that link and check whether you have details filled in in the "ship to" block.Mine is empty
My first replacement got lost in transit and i am worried that the delivery details are not present...thanks -

Well, My order status is shipped. We'll see how long it takes to get to Iraq. Also went to order the QX9300 from HP and my credit card wasn't accepted. Looks like I'm going to be making some phone calls. I just hope this is normal and it doesn't hold up my order.

Yay. My m17x came today at about 1PM. Ordered November 22nd, received December 5th. It only took 3 days in transit with ground shipping.
My first impression is the same as a lot of people's seems to have been. I am blown away by it. Everything looks and feels really nice. Everything is running great out of the box.
All around I am just completely happy with it.
Sorry for the picture quality, my phone camera isn't the best.

You know I just realized something...a couple of you guys have been telling me to go ahead and cancel my order because I've been waiting for more than 6 weeks...but I can't cancel. I've already received my additional batteries and carrying bag for the laptop (among all the other accessories), and you have to send that stuff back in order to get a refund for the cancellation, and it's been more than 21 days upon arrival of the product. (or is it 31 days that you have to return them...either way, it's been more than that too). so basically I'm waiting for something that may not even be getting worked on right now because they told me the 'parts aren't compatible' or some crap. They explained that when they had put my laptop together the parts weren't working or something and they weren't gonna send me a non-working laptop (of course) and that is the closest amount of information I have EVER got about why my laptop is being delayed (instead of the standard, "It's on high priority, some of the parts are being ordered because of the high demand, a lot of people are ordering this product and blah blah blah).
Point is...I'm getting duped out of my money and satisfaction because I'm not even entirely sure this thing is getting worked on. I can't cancel and reorder...I'm forced to wait on something that may never get here. This. Sucks. Majorly. -

LOL ... am I missing something ? Just call'em up ... demand , "DEMAND" it to be canceled and that you really don't give a damn at which stage it currently is and force them to have it canceled (I think there is some sort of policy or law that major creditors have towards all electronic purchases that you make with any vendor where they must present a product to a consumer within 30 days time frame) ... Their excuses should not be your concern !
Or try calling the sales rep that was helping me , that guy was truly awesome , someone else actually from this thread also re-ordered from him after getting his contact info from me... see if he will be able to sort out that cancelation issue for you and have it re-ordered with him ... took me 10 days from order date to have it in my hands ... PM me if something for more info on that guy ... -

Had big problems that lasted from order date of 10-16 til my order got canceled out of the blue, with no reason or answers, on 11-30 after 6 delays and many different stories it just got canceled no one knew why, reordered with digitals man and got discounts and upgrades, I am not crossing fingers thinking I am on the 10 day delivery page because I was told up front with black friday and cyber monday orders are flying in, I was just promised to get a better machine than I originally ordered and I paid less for a better machine. So having 1 person to call and 1 person who will give ya all the info u need is much better than on hold with crappy hard to understand and no answers overseas operators and managers, with the great lie of expedite or rush or hurry. So ordering thru sales dept is always way to go....

I ordered on the 30th November and my order was confirmed on the 31st November. I got an email stating That the M17x was in production on the 1st December, I just got an email Today (7th december) confirming shipping date on or before the 17th December with tracking Number!
So just wait for delivery and get my info from my M1730 backed up ready to transfer to my new machine

Thought I'd pass this on, the further saga of my M17x, which I now call "Roswell". Why? Cause it crashed!
I got it at my door on 12/2 and the first 1/2 day it seemed fine. The next day (Day 2) I dumped it to load Windows 7 Ultimate and I started to have some weird crashes. I figued it might have been due to the chipset drivers as I have read that loading the storage drivers might not be a good idea. So I wipe & reload again not installing the network and storage drivers of the chipset, and it seems fine for the rest of the night.
On the morning of Day 3 the system doesn't post. Being that I work for a company that builds custom storage servers and that I am warranty certified for a number of desktop and laptop brands I start reseating parts in case something was loose from shipping. Still no post. Then after trial and error with 1 DIMM I finally get the system to post with 1 of the 2 2GB modules and I'm thinking I have a bad one. No big deal and I boot into windows for some more testing.
Then I start crashing an average of 2-3 times an hour and to make maters worse it's now working with both DIMMS after swapping parts around again. I load the diagnostics from the boot menu and let it run the full RAM test, no problems found. I then boot off the Resource DVD to run the full diagnostic program, again no problems found.
Day 4 the system does not post again and no matter what I do I can't get it back up this time so I call support. After 3hrs (hold times included) we come to agreement that it's either the motherboard or some other piece of hardware. Needless to say I tell him with it being brand new I would like a complete replacement sent. I'm told that he can only order a motherboard replacement and that I would have to talk to customer service, which was closed on the weekend (Higher Learning Division).
I have to add that I think it was actual Alienware tech support I was talking to and he was really helpful. We just could figure out exactly what the problem was. Later that night I finally got the system to post again by leaving the CMOS battery disconnected. Not and ideal solution but at least it worked, or so I thought. The next morning (Day 5) it posted a few times after being off the entire night, the first time since this started. I think to myself this could be it, but no. Later in the afternoon it doesn't post with the CMOS batt still disconnected.
Day 6, called customer service and have a new one on order to replace it. they were quite polite and very helpful, and just went ahead and processed the replacement order. So hopefully in a week or so I'll have a new one that works just fine. Other than that, the times I had it running it was working great (except for the crashes, lol). It's a really nice system and just bums me out from such a long wait. Oh well... -
Got my M17x on Saturday... it's a beautiful machine, not a single blemish on it. It's freaking fast too. I popped in my Corsair SSD and my other HDD for storage and reinstalled Windows7 but for some reason, I could not get it to install with the Bios set to AHCI. It installs fine but when I try to load the Nvidia MCP79 drivers, the installer finished and the machine locks up. The only way I could get it to run ok is if I run in ATA mode. I'm still getting 230MB/s read performance from the SSD so I'm not too worried and 69MB/s from my HDD.
Mouse and headset landing today. -
Been following this thread for a couple weeks - I seem to be in the same boat Calleo was in - I ordered back in October and after calling a bunch of times - it's still delayed. Would anyone be able to PM/email me that rep who's been a miracle to you about canceling/redoing your order over the phone? I'd appreciate it

Hey Mandrake, regarding your message about the AHCI... I did the registry mod to enable Windows 7's AHCI driver, enabled the legacy AHCI in the bios, rebooted and it identified correctly and it didn't lock up this time. So, it looks to be working great. I reran a sisoft ssd benchmark and it went up from 230 to 246MB/s read performance after enabled AHCI. I'm stoked.
