Didn't want to do with the hassle.
Weird thing is the EDD is november 16th and that date is a month away.
So....The EDD is epicly useless? -
I mean, Mandrake says that the automated order status phone line is accurate. But... I only ordered my system a week ago (with the 4870s, mind you), and its already in boxing?
While this may be my first Alienware, my wife has bought one in the past... and they do take some time to be built/delivered.
If however, the automated order status line is true, then, yes, the EDD is basically worthless.
EDIT: One more quick note. I have no idea if it helps at all, or not, but I did order my system through the 800 phone number. Did that somehow light an expeditious fire underneath Alienware's butt? Who knows, but I just wanted to let you guys know that I didn't order online. -

There has always been rumors that if you order through a sales rep your order will go through quicker. The sales reps don't want to lose commission so they push their order through as quickly as possible. You guys are proving that theory right now. -

Ok, so here we are... Just re-ordered mine.

Was tolled that I should expect it within 1,5 - 2 weeks, as my sales rep will try to put it through with his expedited request that will have the system in actual production stage by tomorrow (!?!). Well, I only can hope for that.
P.S. oh, one more thing, Windows 7 will be already there ... ) -

I placed my order of M17X on 14th Oct, and I phone dell today, just got confirmed that my laptop is about to ship, and it will be in factory installed windows 7!!! What a good news, now I don't need to upgrade the system myself~ -
My system shipped today. Calling the automated phone order status line indicates that the system has shipped to Dell's selected carrier, and a tracking number will be e-mailed to me when it reaches the facility's regional distribution center.
Also, my system will have Windows 7 on it.... which is something I didn't expect.
Guess I'll be posting benchmarks soon enough for you guys.

i ordered my m17x on the 5th of october, with a ship date of 27 october and an EDD of 2 november. do you guys think ill have windows 7 installed on it ?

I ordered on Oct 07 and EDD is Nov 03. Base on the emails and on my order date + EDD can anyone tell me how likely I will get W7 preinstalled. When do you think I will get my M17x shipped?
Because I don't really understand what the rep sale meant in his email.

When your order ships which sounds like it will this week click on the invoice link on the order status page. That will tell you how the system is configured. You should see which OS is installed.

I just wanted to bring this up again,
Today the Dell Rep will be calling me back to confirm my M17x Replacement. I will see how much it costs to upgrade to Quad Core Extreme, and what discounts he might be able to offer me on that. If its between 350-400£ I will go for it but any more and I have to pass.
The big thing I dont get is, in my quote he specifies ATI RADEON HD 4870 1GB GDDR3. Why not GDDR5 - Do we know if this card comes in two flavors?
In the UK, the HD 4870 Crossfires are only 5£ more than the 260 SLI. The 280s are still branded as the "max spec." Any ideas? -

If you really want to push it you could always try the Unresolved Issues link (Customer Service side) and see if they can do anything to expedite. At the very least I see a nice fat gift card associated with this latest set back... -

If they reply via email only I would send a response back (just reply to the email, leave the subject line as is or it wont route correctly) asking for a manager/supervisor to give you a voice call. Pain in the rear to go that route but should provide better results. Hate to see you cancel and reorder in 2010.

Sorry to hear about your delay woes Mandrake. Those ATI cards must be giving dell a major headache. Your situation leaves me with a little to think about. As I was going to place an order sometime this week (once I knew Win 7 would be on the system for sure) but now I dont know what to do. I really want those ATI cards. I guess I could settle for the 280s? Then again, maybe not.

Well it's getting late in the game now. You know there will be a new model sometime Q1 2010 and we are a month away from Black Friday. Might as well wait a little longer.
The puzzling thing is my DPA account has been charged already. -
My DPA account was charged before i received the machine as well so i think thats somewhat normal.. Might not happen to everyone but i know it happens nonetheless.. Since you have waited this long you may be better off waiting abit more like you said unless your in a big hurry .. I myself am not in any big hurry and am better off waiting to see whats next or if theres some Super Sale like black friday where i just cant pass up on a deal..

I cannot wait to meet my new M17x at home. As I am away right now and sans laptop, I have been using the internet cafe and it is driving me up the wall. Even just Alt-Tabbing full-screen (low-res) webpages causes it to sieze my cursor and think for 15 seconds before I can even scroll. Whats even better: the computer is a Dell. -
Probably nothing on the alienwares.

guys dell has A ESCALATIONS dept. use it. when you call them you need to not get nasty but be firm and you may need to step on some toes. tell them this is absurd and you are VERY displeased, you want to speak with escalations NOW. most likely they will transfer you to "their manager" who is usually just the guy sitting next to them lol.... give them the same deal. dont give out any more info besides your order number and that you want escalations. if they say something like they dont know what you mean tell them you have spoke with and dealt with dell escalations on a prior purchase in the past.
if you speak with escalations things GET DONE. trust me. when dell had the HUGE delay on the inspirons and vostros a while back i got all kinds of extras, money off and my orders pushed through so fast it was crazy. now if dell physically doesnt have the parts then there would still be a wait but escalations can do A LOT for the customer. i got near an extra 700$ in total off my 1730 back then that was not including the original discounts, the free overnight shipping upgrade, screen upgrade and other misc freebies thrown in.
they are who you need to speak with in these cases not a normal rep. -

seriously though guys dont be afraid to get a bit upset with these people. if it comes to that demand escalations. i used to have a direct number for them i dont know if i still have it though.. ill look around the office to see. but if you yell loud enough .... the squeaky wheel gets the grease etc... escalations is there for a reason use them -
Regarding my situation I talked to a "resolution specialist". I don't know if that is the same thing as escalation. They said they would get back to me in 24 hours.

Ahhh... my first delay.
Surprisingly, my delay isn't Dell's fault, it's Fed-Ex's fault! So Fed-Ex did not pick up my package on the 18th, so the Oct. 21, 2009 EDD has been changed.
After fighting with the manager/supervisor at Fed-Ex, they agreed to upgrade my shipping from Ground to Priority Overnight.
Soooo... we'll see when it gets here now. :/ -

I'm new on this forum but I've been looking through some of the delay issues people have experienced and I'd like to add mine. I ordered my M17x on Oct 3 and they gave me an EDD of Oc23. Reading through here I've noticed that people were getting their systems fairly quick but mine hasn't arrived yet 3 days before the EDD. I phoned in the status and found that my system is in the BUILD stage :confused2: . Even with the 2nd day shipping my system will not make it by the 23rd according to my calculations. I don't believe I ordered anything that would delay my order, 260M SLI, 4GB 1066MHz, T9600, 160X2 in Raid 0 and the lower res display. None of it indicated a delay, no emails indicating it either.
If the build status is correct this will be a bit discouraging and I'm tempted to cancel my order. I ordered an E1705 2 years ago and it never took this long.
I'm curious to find out what you other guys find out and I'm looking for some advice as to who I should call or my best course of action.
