you said best
i say
best= cheapest

I'm looking for a good performance at a reasonable (cheap) price too, so eBay is the only place to go?? I just affraid I can't use it but i'll try it tommorow. By the way, i thought stuffs on eBay are used, and the idea of buying a used electronic is probably a bad idea, do they sell new stuffs on eBay too (new qx9300 & ssd)
-
yea new SSD you should get from Newegg.ca
also yea CPU's from ebay are used but 90% of the people here who ugrade use them
you can buy from newegg, rjtech, and many many other stores -
Cool!! Thanks for the help (+ rep), i'll try and look for a qx9300 on ebay then, i'll check the newegg tomorrow too, gotta go to sleep, See ya
-
For the SSD get the OCZ vertex ... i can boot in under 10 seconds on windows 7 and around 10 for vista(trimmed )
-
i've been checking my order status everyday since i ordered it (5th June) and still 'order received'. i called the sales rep and she says that i can't track my order online. and there is no alternative, even for her. she apparently calls some colleague to get the status and it's going to 2-3 weeks from the 11th!
...and coz it's being packaged "overseas". i asked why it would take so long if it's Malaysia (i'm in Singapore at the moment) and she said not Malaysia. so...customers in the US get it built in Malaysia and those in Singapore get it built in the US?
in case the ridiculousness of this isn't obvious...Singapore is a 45-50 minute flight from KL, Malaysia or 5-6 hrs by bus or 2.5 hrs by car if u're willing to drive that fast.
and here i am all prepared and buying 2008-09 games to enjoy when it gets here :-( -
the order status page is fubar....
and take into account the recent dell buyout of AW.
they are going thru growing pains and prob did not plan for the huge response they had with this unit.
if you wanted an immediate purchase, you could always go to best buy or walmart.... -
i've realised :-(
if either of those or their equivalents existed in singapore and there was a DIY market for laptops, i would've just bought all my components over a few days and done it myself. but...there isn't so i just have to stfu and be patient :-/
more to the point, the email from them confirming the order and saying "5-7 days" really should be corrected for accuracy...
5-7 days becoming 3 weeks is not an estimate, it's not even a 'ballpark figure'. -
Yes, in about 2 weeks.

Seems there is some trouble in Holland/Europe. My rep has got many complaints from people who are in phase 2 : pre-production for over a week now, and don't seem to get any further.
Yesterday he mailed me that my system was in production already, now he is not so sure about that anymore. He also told me that if I would order a system now I would get an EDD of end of June.
This is getting very frustrating and annoying.
Somehow I get a feeling that there is a serious lack of parts here in Europe just to keep the US customers happy.
I really am not very happy at the moment.
Anyway, he will mail me when he knows what the problem is. -
In doing some research on purchasing mobile CPUs a majority of them are OEM only so you cannot go to the average online retail store and buy a boxed version. Newegg does sell mobile CPUs but the extreme CPUs like the qx9300 are OEM only which means they must have been pulled out of a system so they will always be used. Same will be for the specific Samsung SSDs (PB22-J) that comes with the M17x although there are plenty of good and even better alternatives.
-
If best = cheapest then he should do a price comparison between the Vertex, Falcon and Torqx since they are the same drive.
Edit: BTW, if someone wants the exact SSD that comes with the system but buy it after-market you need the Corsair P256 which is a rebadged version of the Sammy PB22-J. The Samsung uses it's own controller which makes it different than any other on the market. -
Same as you, stuck in phase 2 and I've spoke to 3 reps who have told me nothing useful.
-
DARN!!
Still in build...................... -
I had to check mine this morning. Had to make sure it wasn't already shipped.
-
I just called for my status and found out the silver metallic laptops are being delayed a little longer than normal.
-
Still no update from the rep. But the Alienware part of the Dell-site isn't working at the moment. I simply can't get into it.
I also spoke to another rep asked about the differences in prices for the upgrades between US and Europe. And the only thing he said was bla bla bla, diferent strategies ,bla bla bla, US always cheaper, bla bla bla.
I'm really pissed of at the moment. -
I'm really pissed I keep getting incompetent people from Asia on the phone. I want someone from the UK, or at least Europe, dealing with me on the phone. They are so ing unhelpful. "Oh, you can check the status online...it's in phase 2". WELL THANKS A LOT.
-
called this am, still in the boxing stage. How long does it take to box a laptop? It should be in the shipping stage!
-
Vandit...i envy you, Don't complain about boxing! Seriously... Unless it goes past 3 days then crack skulls.
-
a few days as that includes it's shipping times from the assembly warehouse to the destination hub to be shipped out.
-
If he was said so, this is totally a bs strategy (or racism??) lol j/k
Anyway, does any1 from other country rather than US have the option to personalize the nameplate?? Eu, Singapore??
@Mandrake: thanks a lot for the infor -
No this option is only for US!
-
It seems like the m17x ordering page had been taken off-line here in the Neterlands. Or one of there servers is overloaded.
Or maybe the're fixing sometime (prices come to mind).
Way to go Dell! -
Singapore: my order lists N329P - Alienware Nameplate, but it doesn't give an option to personalize it while customizing online. so i presume they're going to put the first & last name according to the billing/shipping address.
-
Or it just says: Alienware M17x.
-
Still in Build stage. Damn you all in boxing. And sorry for those people overseas who are less fortunate about order numbers to call and get updates.
-
I'm happy
, sorry, I live in the US
-
Too bad it is
-
Hello, was wondering if anyone knew a Canadian order status telephone number? Or is it only for the US?
-
Mine is still in the build stage. :-(
Just checked this morning. Ordered through EPP rep on phone 9:30am 6/5... -
I bet sleey0 memorized the phone number and his order number already
-
I have my cell speed dial programmed to dial the number pause, do the prompts with pauses and then enter the order number followed by #... I don't even have to dial it anymore.. lol -
I feel your pain. (Since I am in the same boat - or rather stage)
I should do that too. Not sure how to program the numbers beyond the regular ones. -
It depends on the phone. I have a PDA/Smart phone so I just put a P for a pause and I can keep stacking them to get the time frame needed on the pause...
There should be an option when you create the contact and enter the number that says insert pause/delay... -
haha. That's awesome! btw- you can't get your q6600 higher on clock spped than that? I have mine running at 3.4 right now on air -
Never really tried to over clock it much.. it really has met my needs so I never bothered. I am sure I can over clock it more just fine. My system runs really cool with all the massive fans I have in the case... Just never tried... Maybe once I have my new notebook i may do that.. who knows...
-
I am old school and prefer dialing myself
And, yes, I have memorized the phone # and order # = memorized it the first day
-
Got an update from my rep's manager.
One component is missing.
He just couldn't tell me which component.
Hopefully this component will arrive Monday.
-
Sleeyo how often do you think the phone status would be updated per day. I assume calling every hour like you would be a bit overkill? I am trying to stick to 2-3 a day.
-
I would think it would only be updated 1x a day
-
It is in real-time. So, if your system is in fact going into testing, once they scan it from one station to the next it is updated.
I wouldn't be calling 20 times a day if it was updating only once per day
-
Noted, guess ill be calling..5 more times today.
-
How many pauses do you use between the phone number and the first number for the phone system?
-
Keep in mind that Malaysia is 12 hours ahead, so I would imagine calling in the evening and morning would be your best bet for a status change.
-
You got through to a manager? I tried a couple times yesterday but they were always "busy"...
-
I call twice a day. Still in "build" phase. I ordered 2 days ago and I'm already impatient!!
Anyone know which font they use on the new M17x keyboard?
New Alienware M17x
Black metallic
Core 2 Xtreme QX9300
8GB DDR3 1333Mhz
SLI Dual 1GB GTX 280M
17'' 1920x1200
Vista Ultimate 64
500GB SSD Raid 0
Blu-Ray drive -
you need help. like, seriously.
-
Keep in mind p may not work on your phone. You may need to check your phone manual on how to add pauses.
My setup is..
18002832210ppp3ppp2ppp1p1pppp(ordernumber#)
Now you can adjust the pauses to be a little longer or shorter by adding another one.
I set mine up like that to make sure when the IVR is switching me over, there was adequate time before my phone dialed the next set of numbers.
Now I just hit my speed dial and it's off and dialing itself.. Very nice... :-D -
I doubt the boxing stage will take more than 3 days, they want to get those laptops out so that people can review them and they can get good publicity for them, and they want to satisfy the everyone who has ordered one already
