I'm stil in build phase...
I found a review regarding the Samsung SSDs used in the M17x
http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2009/03/17/review_storage_ssd_samsung_mmd0e56g5/
New Alienware M17x
Black metallic
Core 2 Xtreme QX9300
8GB DDR3 1333Mhz
SLI Dual 1GB GTX 280M
17'' 1920x1200
Vista Ultimate 64
500GB SSD Raid 0
Blu-Ray drive -
Now i think i should have gotten SSD. Bummer.
-
07gevish, i just read your specs...the same as mine except for HDD (i got 1 TB, 2x 500 GB raid0 which i didn't want!).
make sure u post a review as soon as u get it!
-
This thread has really turning into the "When am I going to be in the boxing stage!!" soon to be "When is my system going to ship!"
-
I will, i just hope to get it before i leave the states.
-
Ok, finally got an email back from customer service. Now they are telling me my black case is on backorder. This is after being told twice (once last thursday and once this tuesday) that nothing was delaying my order.
This stinks. I ordered my notebook pc the morning of the first day it was available and I am delayed by backorders while people who ordered two days after me don't? -
Probably the same in my case then
-
I am really NOT liking these reports of backordered parts.....
Come on, Dell, get your act together!!!! -
I don't think I would be complaining as hard if I ordered later but I ordered the morning of the first freak'n day. Had I know that web-orders were going to be second-class citizens I would have called to place my order.
-
JBBW- what does Dell's phone # line say in regards to your order stage? I am in Texas also. Hope mine isn't backordred also. The phone # says I am in the boxing stage
-
The order stage on the web says "production". The phone number that sleey0 provided a dozen or so pages back says "build" stage. (Is that right? the stage before testing and boxing).
I am almost at the point of giving in. (terminating my order - i do not like companies playing games with me.) Does anyone have an opinion on the " 305-Q708"? I have a 6 year old notebook from toshiba that is still going strong and so i like them. -
Just wait it out. A few weeks is no biggie in the long run. I mean, there isn't a laptop out there with the sexiness of the M17x. It also has great air cooling, design, and features you can't find from any other laptop. I almost ordered a ASUS W90Vp. Glad I didn't bc of the overheating and driver issues. My advice, wait and you'll be happy you did.
-
The Qosmio is a great laptop, with 9800GT graphics, but still, it doesn't compare in style nor power to the M17x.
And what's one month of waiting in one's life compared to receiving the most powerful laptop in our solar system.
You'll see, the waiting will be worth it. -
I was thinking of cancelling too, jbbw
I need a laptop soon as my classes have already begun. I am just being really impatient, but it would be nice to have a system in my hands sooner. -
My thoughts too!
I give them till early next week. If I don't see any progress then I might cancel.
My nephew ordered his system today (more than a week later as I did) and he got an EDD of 11th of July my EDD is 15th of July. He was told though that he might get his system 10 days after payment. -
Well, I had a rep call and leave a voicemail which was strange. They said my system should ship within the next 2-3 business days?
I had an EDD of the 7th of July. , I am excited now
-
Where are you located???
If in the US, could you tell us the phone order status?? -
Thanks for the encouragement. It makes me feel better.
BUT - then I think about the situation - I ordered before all but one person here (that I know of). Don't you think it would be fair if I got my system before the first set of backorders? -
I am located in the US, in the Midwest. I will call with the phone order status right now and post back what it says.
-
The phone system says my build in the the product stage in the boxing stage. This is good I assume, right?
-
When did you order? Web or Phone?
-
You guys just ordered last week why all the talk of canceling orders? NOW I know why dell changed their order phone status line. Hang in there guys. I still believe we will all have our systems before the month is up.
-
I ordered via web 2 days after system luanch (June 4th)
I tried to order by phone but it didn't work. I also got a student discount, not sure if that matters at all, just thought I should mention. No nameplate for me
-
I'm completely "de acuerdo" with you. I'm sure we'll get our systems before the end of the month. The wait will be worth it!!
-
I was always told, by higher-ups at Dell no less, that they use a queue on a first come, first serve basis.
That is obviously horse $hit as people's orders are all over the place with regards to when it was ordered.
Meh.... oh, well. If there isn't any movement for me next week ,fogehtabouit. -
If I receive mine by next weeks end, I'll be happy
-
Obviously it is a "first serve basis" for the notebook production. But on a larger scale, it's definitely "fill up the cargo plane basis". That's why I'm confident we'll receive them at the same time before the end of this month.
Hang on there. you'll soon see light at the end of the wormhole -
It sounds like lots of us will have our notebooks before the end of next week.
-
I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope!
-
Hm thats weird invnceable, You ordered the second day and you have been told that yours should be shipped soon. My only guess is that your components were in stock and had no problem whatsoever putting your machine together. Whereas the black chassis and processor i ordered were back ordered. That is just my take.
-
You do realize that the pallet that goes on the cargo plane is not all M17x's, right? APCC1 and APCC2 manufactur ALL lines of Dell notebooks.
I am sure your laptop is already in Anchorage on it's way to Nashville. They fill up those cargo planes and have flights daily.
If you really wanted to know - your laptop goes from Taipei --> Anchorage --> Nashville on a China Airlines cargo flight (which you can track but I forgot the flight numbers). -
This sounds good, it sounds like those who are in the boxing stage will get their laptops next week. I am very excited as I am in the boxing stage currently, and I hope that people not in the boxing stage yet get bumped up soon.
-
Just got an email from the agent that helped process my order, he said
"Hi Huey ,
This is a follow up email to update the status of the order for your computer is still in the production stages. The order is estimated to be shipped from Dell by the 07-06-2009. I have submitted an expedite request and will update the status of the order with you.
Please reply to this email for any assistance.
Thank you,

I wonder if he really is gonna help speed up my order
-
Yeah, no idea why. I don't have many upgrades, they are listed in the sig, so maybe that is the reason. Who knows
-
oh yea, i had a phone call by the same rep that emailed me and said my computer will ship earlier than the ETA
-
How can you think it's a first come first serve basis? I ordered the morning of the first day and people 1-2 days later with similar systems are ahead of me.
Good lord - I am far enough back in the queue that they ran out of my cases after processing the people who called 40 hours later than me.
yeah - i am wit you... -

My order date was June 4th and my EDD is July 10th which is fine by me. I don't care, though I know most people do if someone ordered after me and is getting his or hers' AW before me. As long as they deliver it on or before my EDD date I am good with that. Its when a company gives you a date and then there is a delay, and another EDD is given, then there is another delay and another EDD,and again, and again this is exactly what happened when I ordered W90vp and they still are having issues with the GPU's this is why I canceled my order. Thus why I went to Dellianware, my experience with Dell in the past is they have 100% of the time met the EDD date, most of the time it has come early. Just my 2 cent
-
ya'll just calm down its coming you ordered a laptop on or near a release date its just stupid to expect it to be there in a week or 2 ......even the dell 15 i ordered took 2.5 weeks
JUST CHILL OUT
@atom your still winning -
Yeah, I guess I had too soon of expectations.
When I saw the ESD way out in July, I figured that was not gonna happen because Dell's ETA's are always weeks ahead.
It's just that folks who ordered ahead of ppl are getting theirs next week, while some of us need them a little sooner
-
my laptop the 15 was delivered 2 days before it
keep in mind how many orders were place @ one time vs lots of orders over time -
it appears as if dell is having growing pains and restructuring issues.
i did not place a new M17x order, but i purchased other items from them this past week.
at first i got an email that gave an estimate of shipping within the week.
i then got an email the other day and they extended the time frame to 4 weeks now.
this leads me to believe that there are other aspects interior to the company that we are not aware.
remember: estimated. look it up.
-
According to this, it is in Dell's best interest to get these out before the 26th
-
This is like nerd Christmas, but you just never know what day Christmas is going to fall on (and all without the horrible Christmas music, to boot!)!
OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY! -
I still think that next week everyone who is in the boxing stage will get their laptops next week, as Sleey0 mentioned, Dell ships all of their computer lines from that facility, not just M17x's, and it probably is on its way now to where they ship their systems out from.
-
The problem is not about the laptop taking its time to come; it's that people who ordered after certain people are getting their orders processed faster than people who ordered before them. It's just absurd. Even worse is not getting any help from the reps on the phone.
Question to US residents - when you phone up, are you speaking to US reps? Or are they foreign? I'm perfectly happy to speak to people who are foreign but it is becoming increasingly annoying that I keep getting either an Indian man or woman who know nothing about my order and can only quote my currrent EDD (that I see online) to me. It's also crap that when I tell them some people have found the online status thingy to be slow to update people's actual progress and that when they phone up the reps are giving them more accurate information, they simply tell me it's working fine. They completely ignore what I've said about reps giving more accurate information over the phone. If I try and push to see if any parts are on back order or if they think my laptop will come before the current EDD, they simply say "thank you for calling Dell" and hang up on me. That's happened 3 or 4 times. I've even stayed calm and polite but if I call up on Monday and get the same treatment, profanities are going to be exchanged. -
I understand your concern with that, but the fact is nobody has gotten their laptops yet. Until people start getting their laptops I wouldn't make that claim. While many are in boxing and others are in production that doesn't always mean anything until the system is sitting on the desk in front of you.
Just take a deep breath.
-
life isn't fair
simple as that you will have it in 2 weeks, it really isn't a big deal ....sure it sucks but Dell operate to the maximum efficiency so they are probably make certain orders first for a reason. You or i may agree but it true ....
beside you dont listen to the update people they update status like 1 a day so you could be in boxing and not know it -
Thank you. This is exactly what I am talking about. I have been on the phone with *customer care* half a dozen times now and every time the story changes. You think they could tell me why my order is stuck in 'build' stage when i ordered 2 hours after the system became available to order.
There are people on the forum here who ordered 2 and 3 days later who's systems are about to be shipped.
Not according to the supervisor (yep - i finally got through to one) I just talked to. He said it will be 10 more days before the black chasis come in and the builds are finished. Then they will go to testing and shipping.
That means that my two day headstart has become two weeks delay.
Then again, everything else customer service told me this time conflicted with what they told me yesterday so who knows... -
Agreed.
Message too short.
