im still told end of week before people will start to see tracking.. also that they did not expect this many to go so fast and they will start to be backed up soon enough.. so order soon if you are thinking.. at least thats what i was just told on the phone..

 

I just called...black aluminum chassis on backorder+talking to manufacturer. Lead time of 20 days!!...love that automated response from a human.

 

I'm not surprised.

I'm sure they had an idea that they had a winner on their hands. They just didn't realize how big of a winner.

Dell just changed the build time from 20 days to 15 days......

 

My order is still in build stage, its been in build stage since 6/07/2009, hopefully will be in boxing this week.

I don't understand the phrase "Free Fall Protection". It just doesn't make sense.

Really, it's not the fall that causes that damage - it's that nasty decelleration at the end that causes all the problems. No one has ever died from falling out of a plane after all...

 

That is not what it's talking about. lol

When the disk detects it is falling (by using an accelerometer) it will lock the head in place to prevent damage.

More than likely they are (or were) sitting on a pallet for a few days in their warehouse in Malaysia waiting to be shipped.

plus, not to keep beating a dead horse....But, I ordered on june 2nd and my estimated delivery is july 1st...If I order today my estimated delivery is july 6th? I might as well of waited a few days, it seems the first people who order get no special service. Ok, off the soap box until tomorrow....Had to vent!!

 

At least your in boxing stage, many people in Europe are in pre-production. Also many in US who ordered same day are in build or worse. So please, you are fortunate to be in boxing.

Boxing is 3 or 4 days. On day 5 you start wondering how long the delay might be. If people with the inside scoop are saying by the end of the week, I'm good with that.

Yeah, boxing for 5 days is getting a little extreme.

The longest I have ever been in boxing was 4 days - and that was on the launch for the M1330 with the HUGE delays.

Maybe Dell is waiting for all the first weeks orders to be built before any are shipped? Doesn't sound right to me especially when gabez said his shipped...

Feel free to vent. I can sympathize as can others here. Who knows - maybe someone has a similar situation and can help. I know the thing that was bothering me the most was not knowing exactly what was going on and having to deal with Customer 'Care'. They didn't have the answer and refused to push the question up the chain. After today's call from Dell that explained what was going on I am actually excited about this purchase again.

 

No I didn't...but, after reading your thread I was hoping that I did and had an answer....lol

Good luck to all and I hope everyone gets their's soon! I remeber waiting for the M7700 when it was released. A month was a short wait! I think it took anout 45 days from start to finish...So, this should be childs play.

The dude on the phone actually told me, without me asking, that by ordering over the phone, the orders are put in like 2+ days before orders placed on-line. Granted I spent a freakin' hour+ on the phone, but hopefully that will be an hour well-spent!
