Something is def wrong with Dell's ordering system

 

You were in production for 3 days?

Just got the confirmation e-mail from Alienware/Dell regarding the replacement drive mounting kit.

Nestor and Adrian from Alienware's support team? Definitely cool guys. Now, just to wait for the package to arrive...

 

Good thing that was resolved, moo what config you going with? Base proc, base RAM, base HDD, 260s? Also are you going to maybe go with raid 0 or raid 1 to get the hard drive cage so you dont have to order one like inkjammer?

 

Please post the details to help others out (part numbers, who to contact, etc).

 

If you order only one hard drive the M17x "All Powerful" does not come with a second sleeve, screws or SATA Adapter for mounting a second hard drive. To get the sleeve, screws and adapters:

1) Call 800-254-3692 (Alienware Support)
2) Go through the prompts and get to Technical Support. /BE VERY SPECIFIC/ that you ordered the "new Dell Alienware M17x" laptop and that you need a drive cage and mounting kit for it. Give them the 7 character service tag and ask to be transferred to the reps who handle these laptops.
NOTE: Again, you must be specific that you have a "Dell Alienware M17x" as most reps are confusing the new M17x for the old m17x (and this will cause you many headaches).
3) You'll be transferred to the Dell Alienware M17x support (different than standard Alienware support). Tell them your story, give them the 7 character service tag again. They may try to say you can only get one with purchase of a new hard drive, but explain that you were not informed you /wouldn't/ get one or (in my case) the Dell rep told me I'd get it included

They ordered one for me. Took several hours to get this straightened out, but in the end Adrian and Nestor from Alienware support were able to get me squared away.

This laptop is sold through www.dell.com but is NOT supported by Dell or their techs. It's still supported by Alienware. There is much confusion on this aspect as Alienware has two very, very different laptops with the same name. Again, "Alienware m17x" is COMPLETELY different than the "Dell Alienware M17x". You have to be specific.

Moo, the 260's in SLI, how much better are they then the 3870 XF?

What about 280's vs 3870's?

I would say save, but it might be a PAIN to get the second 260 later (it took 3 hours just to get the hdd caddy lol).

 

well 1 280 is about 15% slower the X fire so if a single 260 is 15% slower then ...

50% faster? maybe 60

hard to judge because you have drivers games everything ..... my best guess is 50%

The rason i dont really care to save is because i have a full scholar ship , i just need to buy books n pay fees

so 2300 shipped for SLI and 1900 res is ok for me

 

^^ Dell did this with naming it and selling it through their site. They should've just designed it for AW but let AW put everything on their site to avoid customer confusion. They could've called it:

M17XS
M17AP

Yes I am in the US. I'm not sure if it helped but yesterday morning I called them and asked them to cancel it. Then they said "but it's shipping in 2 days" and I said "on my side it says 7/13 and I need something sooner I think" and then he said "it really is shipping in 2 days not on the 13th and someone from 'resolution' will monitor things then call you to make sure everything is good w/ me" and gave me a reference # but I figured he was just messing with me but since the urge to cancel had faded after drinking some v8 I decided to just see what happens. I ordered the slowest shipping but it says they upgraded me to 2-day. I didn't know Dell did cool things like that.

Well, there's a lot of weird issues with that.

1) It's an Alienware laptop. but can only be purchased through Dell.
2) It's an Alienware laptop, but you can't buy it with an Alienware Titanium account.
3) It's an Alienware laptop, sold by Dell, but Dell's tech support doesn't directly support it. Nor does Alienware's basic tech support. There's another tier within Alienware/Dell that you need to get transferred to.

I imagine this is all due to the fact Dell is fully absorbing Alienware as it's gaming wing, but I don't think they're communicating everything within their wings.

 

all i can say is join the club, i've been in build since the 3rd and been eating at me watchiing all these others getting thiers, make me sad

Yeah I have been in build since the 4th I have called and they have said there is nothing wrong with my order.

 

Ordering first AW laptop today. I'm ordering with 2-Day shipping, so it's probably going to come on 7-11-09. Estimated ship date was 7-9-09, hopefully it comes that day or any day sooner would be fine. This is going to be pretty exciting for me

By shipping they might mean the shipping from China to the US which is part of the 'boxing' stage (if you check your order by phone. It's "in production" if you look at the online order status while it's going from China to US).

Heh try not to double post, just throw an edit in there. Some people dont like it, and possibly against forum rules. I got lucky and a rep gave it to me for free the day after i ordered cause he was very nice and I talked with him for awhile. Best buy should be fine.

I don't know if your kidding but the systems are shipped from AM1 in Nashville.

Your status stays in boxing until it gets to AM1 (from china) and then all the accessories, etc are boxed.

After that and they print the shipping label, THEN your system will move to shipped status.

 

I was half kidding cause I've never ordered a laptop before. Only desktops so thank you. basically..100% it will be here tomorrow? sweetsauce

Thanks for the info re: this but the tracking # says it's already been picked up from a US city
