HAHAHAHHAHAH! Maybe box was the wrong word to use, casing would've been better, they ran out of laptop casing's sorry for the confusion. Aristotle just go to the Dell Forumns and type in something along the lines of M17X order issues and you should come up with the thread.

I am from the UK sleey0 so I am expecting mine in December of '09 =p .

December ? you didnt hear this from me. lool even if they just produce them now because they have no stock then this could be bad or good. it depends how lucky you are.

Dell forums are controlled by Dell. this is a free speaking forum. even more if i hear the replies from Dell reps i get more angry.

I don't mind either if Dell is trying to fix a screen issue. Send all the crappy ones to the US I say =P!

no i want to make things clear. we have nothing with US owners and we are glad they got it already. we see their reviews and pics anyway. Its Dellienware as referred now on and their policy of distributing new laptops. especially alienware ones.

but if US owners have screen issues they will get rid of them faster than in our case. so just send them there. :p just kidding.

oh come on my friend Dell + Alienware= Dellienware. :p

i think this name is appropriate only for m17x the only one coming from the cooperation of Dell and alienware but really no one knows who has the rights. i also cant understand why the m17x is present on two different websites. actually its the first time you access one webpage (Alienware one) to see a laptop and so as to place your order you are transferred to an other webpage (Dell). this is confusing by its own.

if you ask me i would say that everything is produced by a factory of alienware. some parts are of Dell anyway like the dvd or blue ray (this slot was always of Dell), wireless card. Dell is the distributor but alienware controls how it will be distributed. its complicated. i am not sure for that anyway. its like an hybrid of products from both alienware and Dell and even others (i have seen from us owners reviews that the screen is samsung ? ). maybe this is the problem with the lack of parts anyway. this is what i understand

    Yep. See sig.... lol

This laptop is being sold by Dell and assembled at their xiamen, china factory. It was designed by AW and still carries the AW logo.

Dell bought AW and is now phasing out it's XPS gaming line and replacing it with AW.

I ordered from the AAFES site on 6/12/2009, see my post below for more info...

Seems like either my expedite request worked, or one or more of the components you chose are causing delays.

Dont drool yet, you may get a messed up screen like the rest. Mines still in production and has been since 6/8 so i still got waiting to do, canada may be ftw or ftl, if i wait longer then americans but get a working screen ill be happy, but if i wait 2 weeks longer and get the same as them... ftl

I am sure WYSIWYG re: the lcd's.

I doubt Dell is just going to make a sudden switch of lcd's. Granted they usually use different suppliers but samsung is usually the main one.

Just don't get disappointed is all I'm saying :)

Vaild point... I know about the Dellienware thing =P. I knew where you were coming from I mean, I just found it amusing. Well I don't think anyone has had a "crappy" screen, just a little bleeding problem which probably wouldn't bother the average joe. We should wait until someone gets one in Europe and then question them.

Could it be better? Sure, if it was an RGBLED screen :)

Relatively good news from Europe (dell France): after having my two previous orders cancelled, I phoned my rep today and she provided me with a new order number, my m17x is now in production. Even thought the EDD shown on their site is 27.07, she assured me that the real EDD is 13.07. She also admitted that their order system is messed up and they're getting it fixed as soon as possible.

Sorry bro wouldn't count on that. When I ordered (i'm in France Sara took my order) told me that I would be delivered 21st of July, when I complained they said it was a mistake I will receive it 21st of June. and i got a mail last week saying ill be getting it 29th of July

Something is really wrong with their order system, I can understand late EDDs but I ordered yesterday and got 07/07 (dell fr too), wouldn't it be easier for them to give an EDD at the end of july and deliver it earlier if they can rather than giving an early EDD and not being able to make it? This makes me think their order system knows nothing about the availability of m17x's parts.

Yes, that's what I am wondering too. Mine is "in production" since June 18th, and all they tell me I will have it on or before July 10th. I have asked the reps manager to call me but still nothing. He simply refuses to call.

Dell Netherlands: Great Customer Service, but not really. Very sad.

Well I was really hoping it was going to ship today, mine has been "In Production" since the 4th. So it has been 20 days, my EDD is the 3rd of July. I'm wondering why its taking so long... I mean, it didn't even get canceled or anything it has been good so far in that way but its just taking so long and I'm about to lose my mind. :p

Somehow I get the feeling thay are pulling our legs. Mine was in pre-production for 14 days, then my order was cancelled. Then it was re-ordered on the 18th and went straight in production (P3). You might expect that all parts to build it would be available then. But I guess not. It looks like they are still waiting for parts somehow.

Oh I see, well I live in Canada too so that's probably another reason why I will not get my sooner than my EDD :/ . But if it is any later than my EDD, I am going to completely flip at Dell. I just find it so odd that people from other countries cannot get there's sooner than there EDD. I mean it all comes from the same production plants, does it not? So that pretty much means only one thing and that is Dell was sending all their products out to US customers. Pretty cheap...

Edit: Maybe they are saving the best for last? (No screen bleed, brighter screens, etc.) :p

at least most of you can track it online. as i was informed by someone else (moo or bigx333), the order tracking is not at all accurate. so i stopped checking it the week after i ordered it. the sales rep also told me about the inaccuracy of the online tracking.

got a call from logistics today. said they've got it and they'll deliver tomorrow :D

the tracking status is "manufacturing build complete" with an arrow, not check mark. so anyways, it's not accurate.

@Scytus: no, i think sleey0 just meant that his screen is not at all crappy and it would only be better if it was RGB-LED - as in, that's the only way it could be better than it already is.

dunno why i felt like clearing up that one :p

The defintely pad their EDD's. I ordered mine on day 1 (june 2nd) and my EDD was July 1st. They couldn't have including delays for parts on the first day.

The online order status from Dell isn't very precise but for my order it was fairly accurate. The phone status (as described on the first page of this thread) was much more precise and was a little less accurate. It never gave information about the order being cancelled.

Where do you guys check the status? I only have the dell site. I don't see where you see stages like "pre-production" "boxing" etc.

I placed my order yesterday and the status link gives me "in production" and the only other statuses would be "pending", "shipped", "canceled."

I don't think this is the same site you are all talking about.

Well just had another guy on Dell Forumns post in there that he is getting his today, his EDD was July 10th, so a 15 day turn around time, he ordered the 10th of June though, kind of annoys me, because I ordered a week before him, but at least he is getting it and the EU are getting them now!
