I think they should full-on charge everyone before they even start production. Worst that's gonna happen is you have to get a refund. Considering I've had two refunds through dell in the past 3 weeks (one post-delivery of an M1730, the other during build of an M17x), I can say they're speedy on that end.
-
I think 'freezing' it just saves admin costs if the customer decides to cancel, atleast I can imagine 'unfreezing' the money is easier than refunding
-
Ya, money was taken out of my cc in the last few days even though I'm still in build, not just frozen. Dunno what their system is. EU here fyi.
-
Alright got a call from dell. after an hour of complaining with a rush put on it the earliest is the 22nd of july... aparently it failed some of the testing or something... im thinking of cancling it waiting 20 days after my orignal edd and 2 months after my purchase is just bull s**t.

update... now my order number isnt even working on the website... freakin ausome watch this delay me till christmas
-
I thought people might want an update on what's happening with me. I posted this exact same in the European status thread but this one was around way before so here goes.
I am getting mighty pissed off with Dell now. They can actually just go f uck themselves. Still can't get through to my rep and found out she's not working until Wednesday now, woo! 20 voicemail messages left and not a single callback.
Anyway, today. Went through the normal Dell line (0844 444 4699) chose options 3 -> 1 -> 3 -> *entered order number* then 3 (to speak to an agent). That's the same way I get to an agent everytime, unless I'm trying to get through to my rep. So, the first agent I spoke to said that my delivery date of 2nd July will not be met and that I should expect an e-mail within 24 hours to explain the delays. I told him that wasn't good enough because I was going on holiday on the 4th so needed the laptop before then and that I wanted to speak to a supervisor or manager. He put me through to reception or something who then said they'd connect to me to my "account manager". I got a bit hopeful I was going to speak to someone important or high ranking here no, but she transferred me to my rep who of course has the stupid f ucking day off. Hung up.
Dialled again. Got through to a "sales support expert", or so he claimed. His name was Balvinder. He said that Dell were expecting "high demand" for this current unit and that my delivery date is simply an estimate. I told that when I first placed the order 5 weeks ago I was reassured on several occasions that I would receive the laptop by the 4th of July (even when my EDD was 6th July). He said that if Dell's manufacturing unit could, they would get the unit to me by the 2nd July but that they could no longer make that guarantee. -
welcome to my life except mine was moved to july 27th.... i ordered 6/7
-
so things getting a bit scary? I should ask my friend (US) to check with DELL if my EDD will be met
. He placed the order for me around 6/4.

-
They took my money right away. I ordered mine through my work with the employee purchase plan. I had to come up with 10% of the cost and Dell charged my credit card right away and the money has already come out of my account.
-
Say you had 2 grand in your account. And then you spend 2 grand on the laptop. You'd have no moneyz. If they didn't freeze the money in your account, you'd still be running around thinking you had 2 grand to spend. Then they ship you a laptop, which they've spent money working on, only to find you can't pay for it because you bought a new sofa.
You can't complain about the money not appearing anymore in your account.
EDIT: If you weren't complaining and mearly pointing it out ignore me, bad mood -
-
it's ''in transit'' or whatever. My points still valid, when they come to claim their money ONCE ITS SHIPPED they don't want you to have spent all your money and have nothing to give them.
-
Ordered 6/15/09. Still in production... I went and bought 4 new games today and even a backpack for the stupid brick, and now I'll be sitting on my hands until it shows up... IF it shows up.
-
Well, I ordered mine the day you could officially do so - June 2nd 2009 (also the date of payment). My original estimated delivery date was July 6th 2009 and my representative specifically told me it would likely arrive much sooner, but on the 6th at latest. Then on the 18th, the order system changed the order number, went into Phase 3 (In-Production) and the new projected date is now July 22nd 2009. A date where I will be on holidays for a month and nobody will be able to receive the laptop for me. It's a precarious situation. If I don't receive it before I embark on my holiday trip, I will have to cancel it. My representative told me she'd do everything in her might to get the laptop to me before I embark, but she also said she couldn't guarantee it.

Nice video, I just ordered it, like I said I have the Booq Foley XL now and it was one of my favorite, but my M17 barely fit in it so I knew the 17X would not. I will post my thoughts and photos when it comes in, maybe my laptop will be in by then also? Thanks for all the help
-
That is def not going to fit the M17x.....
-
The one in the video is not the XXL version. The XXL should work?

When I call the new one, I get "your order is still being processed" -
-
the phone says building
-
Website still shows Order Received for me, has only been 2 days or so though...
-
-
mines in the build stage right now, wondering how long others have taken to get from build to shipped?
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Usually takes 2-4 weeks to go from order to your doorstep... the time can vary, although it is usually on the shorter end of the time spectrum

Wow, that's rediculous... I just asked a rep and the have said they haven't heard about a backorder... where are you ordering from?
-
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Nooooo.... I was just contacted and they are indeed running behind... my order isn't set to arrive until the 31st of july!!!!

-
Seems the conspiracy theory about DELL sending all the parts to the US could be wrong =)
-
I guess they did not expect this many purchases....
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Clauss Clauss Man I was looking forward to gaming with you on my new M17x... and I was going to do a whole video series.. review, specs, benchmarks... hopefully there aren't too many reviews and or videos by that point!

Lol I really doubt they are pushing that many M17x's that they should be in backorder

Second, Dell's business model allows for a 1 week supply of parts to be on hand at any given time. Basically, if a supplier is having problems coming up with parts then Dell is SOL.
If it is too much waiting for you, and I completely understand, there are other gaming laptops you could buy instead.
If you need a laptop for work/school/whatever - this system is most likely not for someone who needs it ASAP. -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Umm I'm perfectly fine waiting for my baby! It's just torture waiting!!!
-
Might as well have a very good machine and use it for work (Video and Effects) as well as hard core gaming.
I can't wait to receive it.
who knows what M17 stands for? -
