What exactly is the boxing stage? If all they have to do is put the thing in a box why is it not going to ship until the 21st?

Well it sure didnt help Sager that the Alienware is priced very competitive and is being backed by dell this time. So people can now buy an alienware have it repaired in there homes if need be plus transfer there warranty finally if needed as well and when you start to add all those things up along with 0 percent financing and anything else you can think of , im sure this put a decent hurting on the 9850 without a doubt.

They gather the accessories and move it a bit. It ends up at the U.S. destination where it ships to you. It takes a couple days. But it should definitely ship sooner than the 21st.

Nah, I am just messing with you guys :D

I just get frustrated that information is already in this thread that gets asked daily. lol

Anyway, 90% of the time spent in boxing is actually after the system is built. The transit time from the Dell manufacturing facility (whether it's APCC1/2 in Penang or Xiamen, China) to WCFC or ECFC takes about 72hrs.

The lighting went out, and no1 in the alienware tech support the creators of command center could fix it. So I get a new one. And hopefully they format my drives right, and write on the nameplate correctly this time. (not to scare you guys)

If you really want another unboxing..that would be absurd..unboxing#2!

The WUXGA is only backordered in the US and Japan?
On the Japanese store, when translated with the "evil google translator", got this: "Consists of four is about right now than we have time for our week long, and may be delayed. Please note I'm sorry." I understood the delayed part.
No mention of delays on the european stores.

OK, hope they don't mess with my nameplate. How does it feel to have owned an M17x for a few days?

How about "the unboxer strikes back" or "the return of the unboxer"

When I bought my notebook in a Dell store in Tokyo, the seller warned me that "it usually take one month" BUT because of WUXGA screen B/O you're going to wait an additionnal 4 weels.

    Almost 3 months he said!

But then I check my EDD and it was 22nd July while I ordered the 5th!

Don't know if it's a mistake or if they received a batch of WUXGA screen...

One thing about Japan is that there never was a "alienware Japan"...this is considered as a Dell gaming laptop here (cannot purchaze any other AW branded goods).

Don't ever buy a laptop with the intention of being able to upgrade in the future, as the upgrade paths may not matarialize. Get what you need now or know you can upgrade to now. but in theory the processor can be upgraded up to the qx9300, possibly the infamous 9500 if it is anything but a rumor, ram can be upgraded, hard drives can be upgraded, video cards can be upgrade as long as it is compatible with the mxm3.0b and fits in the slots but video card upgrade paths rarely materialize though there are rumors of a ATI 4870 GDDR5 variation coming out for the M17x. If it does and it is GDDR5 it will blow away the 280m GDDR3 cards.

Yes, confirmed earlier by fastlappy.... Although the more I look at it now the more I doubt it is a different batch from the originals... given the limitations they have for screens that would work I think they stuck with the same... or maybe they just had some talks with samsung about pushing Higher quality to dell... who knows no reps will talk!

    LOL

Dell changed the build time from 15 days to 14, but also changed the WUXGA delay from 5 to 6 days. See pic....

Doesn't make any sense cuz everything stayed the same (kind of)....

Dell also dropped the starting price by $30 :D

When your at the configurator, the ESD in red (on the right) is a link.

It will tell you the build time and any parts that are on delay and for how long.

    I have a theory....

I believe AW got a shipment of black chassis in today (would explain the build time decreasing).

I also think that the LCD's that were supposed to come in didn't (would explain the extra day of delays).

    Just my $0.02, though :D

I could get a more accurate answer if I asked my rear-end what the delays are

Dell reps are useless (unless you have an escalation manager or a rep in the states that actually knows what the heck they're doing :))

Any rep you chat with or get on the phone is just going to regurgitate the same info I just got from the website.

I'll do my best! And as for benchmarking... tbh, I've never had a computer better than a crappy, old Dell desktop, so I don't really know the first thing about doing my own benchmarks. If someone has something they want tested, find me a guide as to how to do it, or just tell me yourself lol...

And is there anything I should download right away to make sure my computer is performing properly? (drivers, anything like that... i dont know)

Did you order black? The EXACT same thing happened to me. My EDD was 7/13, and on the day it was supposed to SHIP, it changed to 8/10. They did that to EVERYONE who ordered black cause the chassis is/was on backorder and they wanna cover their end of the deal so you can't complain if it's a bit late... The change is drastic and almost always incorrect, as I was told.

That's Joey from Team Blackhawk at Dell. You'll either get him or someone who works with him. Just tell them what happened, tell them you wanna find out why, give them your order #, and they'll tell you.

Ahh, after days and days of panic I finally feel a little relief. I ordered on June 21st and got an EDD of July 17th. I was in the build stage until this morning, when I finally went into the boxing stage!

I ordered the black chassis with the WUXGA screen with a DPA online. My EDD has been the same since I placed the order.

    So... hello NBR forums!

I didn't order the first day, but the second and I am still waiting... My original EDD was the 3rd of July, but literally a week before that date I got a letter saying that there was a system error and my EDD got changed to the 17th (yeah right). So now hopefully only one more week, but I am not getting my hopes up and expecting that it will get changed once again... By the way I reside in Canada.
