does anybody know if this laptop is "tinkerable"? since there are no underbelly screws, how do you disassemble it for dusting and such?

You can download the Service Manual. Which explains that after you take out the battery, there are indeed 2 captive screws. Unscrew these 2 and you can take of the Compartment Door.

You can add or changer harddrives this way for example.

Buying it now is the price you gotta pay for bleeding edge.

Edit: Does that even make sense??

Yeah but they don't have Solid state drive options for it yet in the UK but if they did it would of been too expensive anyway plus i want lots of storage space. Now i'm broke after getting this system.

Yeah, I know. I've been working in electronics production for over 20 years.
So I know what launching a new product means.

But somehow I hoped that DELL would handle this better.

    Hmmm,

I was reading in another thread that having 1333 RAM with the 1066 FSB could cause issues (I am not planning on OCing), and that the 1333 RAM has higher latency. . .

Considering changing it, but don't want to lose my place in line

I guaranty your hard drive will be slower. :D

As far as problems? It's urban legend. Common practice is to match the bus speeds between your CPU and memory but every system is different. If someone shows you proof of an issue specifically with the M17x and the memory you have you cannot assume there is a problem. It's just as likely to have an issue with the 1066 memory.

Specs for mine (I basically could only afford to upgrade a few things):

    Intel Core2 Duo P8600 2.4GHz
    4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz 2 x 2048MB
    17in screen 1920x1200
1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M (really wish it wasn't so expensive to upgrade this, hope it will be good enough for me)
    1TB (500GB x 2) 7,200RPM - RAID 0 (and I'll use it!)
Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Combo (blu-ray drive was one of my main desires)

Will be much much better than my four year old desktop, I can't wait!

I did get free next day shipping so hopefully my delivery date will be reduced. I also hope we get some cool new alienware wallpapers that I have seen on youtube videos and other reviews that I have seen from the promotions and E3.
