Did you call the phone number... and dial 3, 2 ,1 ,1 for all the options... the dell online won't tell you where you are at... also where are you located?

Galaxy - simple - supply and demand...there's most likely fewer people ordering the top end specs, than those choosing the stock standard (or lower specs). this means that systems of high spec has a higher chance to have components available.

It could also be simple common component bottlenecks and that the high spec machines are prioritorised above the lower specs in the building/production stage..

    just a guess anyways..

The core 2 Quad 9000 is another item that is in large demand... due to it's being an entry level quad... it is probaby in backorder... as well as Dual 260m's being the most commonly ordered cards and the screens as well

the low range dual cores are in demand too it seems - that's the cpu (T9550) that i got upgraded from earlier as it was out of stock/on backorder.

Could be a range of common components that's on backorder too - like the screens of course :)

My order is back again........Dell rep doesn't want to talk to me.

it's possible that strings has been pulled behind the scenes now (i did contact some people that know some people that know some people yesterday) and when i spoke to another rep on the phone, just now, then he gave me an EDD of 24-07-2009.

    Next friday...

well, naturally i'm stoked that it's planned delivery is next friday - however, order was put in on the 8th of July, with a build time of 20 days, that should mean that delivery is being done WHILE it's being built?? Either that or priority went up on my build.

as Quadzilla would say - think happy thoughts..be positive...!!! it really works!!!!

Im hoping everything works out for you but im not sure how things work in the land of Australia and Dell down under.

I'm still waiting to be out of build. I just want to get it and send it back and it is taking so long just to get, I don't even want to think about the problems Dell is going to give me when shipping it back.

Mainly the portability. I realized this thing is going to weigh a lot and be quite large yet it will only hold at max a 2 hour charge. I spend a lot of time on planes doing last minute work on my laptop and my current laptop holds a 4 hour charge. Some flights are over 8 hours. I could go and buy a laptop in the future like this that will be a newer, better model but for now, i need something that can hold a charge.

If Dell/Alienware came up with a battery that could hold a charge for around 4 hours then I would definitely not ship this back.

Could have sworn running on the 9400m it was well over 3hours on battery ?.

The weight thing though i could understand and this sure is not the Airplane laptop lol , heck you might break the tray table in the process.

Edit: Didnt see your posts as i was typing .

They wouldnt let him cancel since it was in production and there was no way out of it from what he had said.

I tried to cancel. They said as soon as it enters the "In Production" stage, it can not be stopped, yet it went into this stage 5 minutes after I ordered it. I now have to pay a $375 restocking fee for a laptop I'm not even opening.

Lmao Quadzilla, I was thinking about the tray table breaking too. Lmao! And I'm on a plane right now to London.

And if anyone that owns an Alienware M17x in here knows how long the battery lasts on high performance and power saving, I would appreciate knowing

Wow, that would be great. But he could actually do that? I was just confused as to why they couldn't cancel the shipping of the laptop and why I had to pay to restock a laptop that isn't open or used.

I think Dell though would charge him the restocking fee at the minimum regardless even if he doesnt open it or refuses it . i have returned 2 machines to them in the past and never had to pay a dime and this was after they instated the restocking fee.

I got a promotion after I ordered. I do a lot more traveling (didn't think that was possible) then before. I use to work at corporate offices all over the world for months at a time so I figured I could use a type of mobile desktop. Now I'm changing locations every week.

Yeeeesss!!! Very Very nice... anyway Galaxy you do relaize that there is a new standard for planes, they are switching out for planes that get better milage and as the engine runs creates a charge.... (there are quite a few now) but also coming on planes that have plugs for electronics

I don't fly on commercial airliners. My employees and I travel on a corporate private jet so I don't really know what the plane has as far as inputs. I will look into this. May be the deciding factor to cancel or not.

One more hour until London :)

Not sure how much longer I'm going to stay in this line of work. I'm suppose to be shipped out with my tank platoon around October.
