Dell is almost always earlier than their EDD

 

I'm hoping that this release of red means that they are stocked and ready for an influx of orders, ie. Maybe the time to churn these out will speed up.

 

Just got mine this morning, so far it's a really nice machine. I'll post some pics later.

 

Just called up dell, for those who ordered with only one HD... they have adressed the issue regarding brackets for the second HD slot, as they are now included/installed on future orders. i just hope mine comes with one.

 

oh and if they dont.. throw them a call and they will send you one for free!

When you called, were they able to give you a more rational estimate of the shipping date for your system (I selfishly ask, as I ordered mine a day ahead of you, so likely our units are close in some queue out there..)?

I understand the dynamic of their initial ESD, they base your ability to cancel an order on delays beyond the initial ESD, technically once your unit is in production you can't cancel unless they delay your order (and they have to grant you this ability for legal reasons, you can waive your earlier rights to cancel, which you do by accepting their terms of sale...) So by design their ESD is conservative to the point of usually being much farther out than reality.

Now when they run up against real unexpected parts delays, they no doubt do run past their EDD's but thats a situation they rather not have to face... after all, they don't want you canceling orders....

I ordered my unit trying to make sure I got it before August 20 but after August 1 ( I ordered on July 9 )... I hope I succeeded, but it certainly seems a crap shoot... I really don't know which number to call to get an honest "educated" estimated shipping date, I do not put any faith in their ESD, and their automated system seems to do little more than regurgitate the web based output. Any hints on a better source of info?

I got an email back from another NBR user, he's also from LA and told me that he got his in exactly 20 days... maybe it all depends on where your located and what shipping method you choose.

also depends on parts.. that are hopefully in stock

that is the worst review EVER its just horrible !!!!!!

 

Hope you checked out airplanemans review a little more toward the bottom, he's got some awesome pics up. Also for the bad Cnet says this "no 16:9 display; garish lights don't scream "high end."

......Umm IDK about most of you but NOT having 16:9 is a good thing ;P.
Also the super brightly lit multi colored keyboard backlighting does scream STEAL ME EVERYONE! just some thoughts.

The gaming bench marks are not there

They compared gaming benchmarks @ different resolutions

They do not mention the 9400m and they just complain about battery life

That's right. There really is a wide range of takes on this baby. They did rate it an overall Excellent though.

 

Agree with you re: 16:9 - don't care...

backlit keyboard..is a must!!!!! maybe not the rainbow thingie though

 

Any of Dell's EDD's are not the closest

 

Also, I'm pretty sure they don't leave packages out on the porch if it requires a signature. They'll leave a note on your door that they'll try to deliver it again the next day (you have 3 chances until you have to go pick it up at the post office yourself).

 

I just had two good news, one day after boxing I am in the Flight/boat transportation.
And my EDD went from 28th July to 22nd!!!
It seems things are getting faster and faster

 

well here we go again - first order cancelled after 4 weeks...second order cancelled after 9 days...and lo and behold, what do i get?? a THIRD order now???

to say the least, i'm NOT impressed any longer...EDD of 24th of July, 2009 is now well and truly out the window - new order is so fresh the paint's still dripping and there is NO EDD any longer!!!

If i was allowed to swear in here, trust me, this would have been an entirely different message...

But you're in Australia right? So it should come straight from China like for me (Japan)...
I thought this problem (Cancellation) was only for Europe because a problem with a EU factory...

Aw damn, I just re-ordered (got more discounts and a free upgrade to 2x 500gb hdds practically)... but they tell me my previous order is about to ship! Hope I don't get charged for sending it back...

Mine went into boxing today! That means it'll probably arrive when I'm in San Diego for Comic-Con..

 

ECFC is open weekends. Dell does indeed ship systems out on Sat and Sun.

Got mine this afternoon! Everything looks nice cept for 1 red pixel almost near the center of screen... hopefully dell can exchange out the screen.

Wait dell ships saturday and sunday as in i could get mine this weekend or no cause i thought places dont deliver on weekends...

 

I had the free shipping so i think it was 3-5 day shipping.

Dell ships systems on weekends.

If you have NBD or 2nd Day, Fedex does not deliver on Sat.

If you have 3-5 day/ground (which is Fedex Home Delivery) then delivery times are Tues thru Sat.
