Nope... Just a matter of parts availabilty and your place in the queue.
Dell is different from most companies in that they do not keep inventory. Everything is ordered as needed from vendors right next to the manufacturing facility.
So, if something is not available, then they are at the mercy of the suppliers.
It is a brilliant strategy as they will never have excess inventory of old pc components - which tend to age VERY quickly.
Take a look at this http://wikimapia.org/86912/Dell-APCC1-Penang and you will see the vendors facilities right next to Dell's Penang Facility.

I am really excited, my laptop will soon be in my hands, running Crysis and Bioshock, and it will be awesome
!
-
I am disappointed right now, but I am trying my best to be patient
-
Wow, that is very interesting. Thanks sleey0 I learned something new!
The only reason I thought about the windows 7 thing is because Costco is offering some coupons on HP's that they have offered in the past, but it says on the coupon available on 6/26/09. I thought it was quite funny since that is the start date of the windows 7 upgrade offers. -
After I typed all that, I re-read your post and misunderstood
Dell will not sit on anything - it is in their best interest to get these out ASAP so reviews (hopefully favorable) can start popping up online. -
Same here Sleey
-
Its in the boxing phase, its almost there, just got to wait a bit longer, and if you got next day shipping, then it will come even faster, good thing I chose that option
!
-
well mine is still in the "Build" phase and unfortunately i decided to with ground shipping. -
Oh well, it might still come next week for you, you never know
!
-
Should be the opposite since now you know it's moving.
-
I guess....
It's easy for you because your system is in boxing! -
lol! I'm not trying to rub it in....
-
I know....
BUT now I am calling the number even more, if that's possible.
My wife is making fun of me everytime I call... It's becoming shameful
-
That's funny, just tell her she just doesn't understand.
Next thing you know you'll be sneaking around behind the garage with your cell phone to make the call, lol! -
Called the number and my order is still in Build.
Order date 6 June with an ESD of 6 July.
Bummed to hear the 9600 may be back ordered
-
Peeking from behind the house (cellphone in hand). What was that?
-
Don't laugh but I DO go outside to make the call - it is the only place that is peace and quite from my 5 and 3 year old daughters (and my wife, but who's counting?)
-
I have 3 little ones but the males out number the females 3-2 in our house. This is why we need complete care! My oldest son (2 years old) LOVES trying to rip the keys off of my Thinkpad. He'll see the "pretty lights" on the M17x and become attracted to it immediately.

This is interesting from the Dell thread describing the "boxing stage":
-
WHOO! I'm in the boxing stage!
*does the Truffle Shuffle* -
When did you order???
-
I ordered it on 06/04/2009.
-
Hmmmm.... I ordered 6/3 with similar specs.
-
Called a rep. No parts on back order. No delays. Still in *build*. Mine is probably just being built by a team of octogenarians. *GO TEAM GRANNY!*
-
The main differences between mine and your is you got the WXGA+ (1400x900) and I got the WUXGA (1920x1200), SLI GTX 260s and a 320GB drive. I have to imagine one of those components was delayed somehow. With that info, maybe people can figure out what part may be delaying their order.
-
Don't know... Maybe Dell's queue isn't the greatest
-
With Dell... you really never know until it ships. I bought my dad an Inspiron 537 desktop for Father's Day a month ago (pre-ordered). I got an e-mail earlier this week saying it was delayed by two weeks... and then another e-mail five minutes after that saying it shipped.
-
exactly ive seen some systems in the boxing stage for weeks in the past
-
this is what sucks (for me)...i ordered it on 4th July, paid for it on 5th July. and then i get a call from a rep asking me to fax/email a copy of the payment...on the 9th, which i sent on the 10th. so my status says 'ordered 11th July'. 6 days lost! and nowhere does dell mention that alienwares might take longer. in fact, they stated 5-7 days in the order confirmation email.
i was actually expecting to have it tomorrow/this weekend. but since the status hasn't changed... :-(
i should've ordered this when i was in Malaysia...since they're apparently assembling them there, from what i see in the posts on this thread. it's a wee bit cheaper there with the same specs and as a 'tourist', i could get my VAT refunded. -
Woo Hoo! Boxing stage! Yesterday I was in production......
-
When did you order, Vandit??
-
Don't say that! It's bad enough already....
-
I'm not buying that....
The reason systems were delayed a while back was due to the LCD shortage.
I have ordered many Dell systems and they all went from boxing - shipped in 2-4 days. -
I ordered the morning the system went on sale, June 2nd.
-
Thanks!
That made me feel somehwhat better
-
Ok.... I am going to break this down.
I ordered on 6/4 at around 12:00pm... through EPP phone sales.
I have the WUXGA screen as well as dual 260's and a blu-ray burner.
As of 3:38pm eastern time on 6/11/09, I am still on the build stage.
I want to start getting an idea of when and where people ordered. Maybe we can find some consistency as to why some units are going into boxing and some aren't. Just thinking out loud.
-
Its probably because some people ordered over the phone, and some people didnt. I believe your order is processed faster if you order over the phone than if you do it online, I ordered mine over the phone
!
-
I agree. I wonder if Sleey0 and I will be in boxing by tomorrow? I guess we will wait and see. Even though I would love if there was a status change tonight.
-
That might be the answer.
-
I am hoping i get boxing tomorrow. I ordered on 6/5 via EPP phone # around 9:30am and it is still in build stage today.
-
Well, I ordered over the phone on June 3rd and I am still in the build stage, Hopefully we will all be in boxing by tomorrow
-
Welcome to NBR!
Stick around a while. -
The suspense is killing me!!!
-
Mine was ordered EPP online (with an estimated ship date of July 6, 2009).
-
Don't want to burst your bubble but it's a BR-ROM, not a burner, unless that's an option you can only get over the phone.
-
Thanks for the correction.. I realized that after I typed it. I was just too lazy to edit it once I saw the mistake..hehe. -
Bubba, the computer you ordered has the exact same specs as the one I'm looking to order in the next couple days. When you get it, you'll have to let me know what you think!
-
You got it. PM if there is something extra, beyond the traditional benchmarks, you want me to find out for ya. I will do the usual 3dmark and Crysis jobs, but I also plan to get ghostbusters on PC and will see how that runs too!
-
Just add an overall "awesomeness" rating to that list and that should do me just fine. lol thanks
-
i haven't got to order yet
