I'd be really suprised if it wasn't soldered to the board with the processor. these smaller form factors don't really have the room to use many expansion/interchangable parts. just be thankfull the memory and hard drive arn't part of the board :)

    I cant wait!!!

Even though i would probably hold off, at least for now. I want to see how reviews (cnet, nbr, pcmag) rate the system before I spend my precious, limited money on it.

I hope to see an 11" screen, just to get a feel of it. I am afraid it will be too small for normal use, and all this interest is a waste. But why would aw make it too small, if it is ment for gaming?! It simpily cannot be, now can it?

Another option would be to find some cheap desktop replacment, and a netbook. But this guy is too full for a netbook, and will cost too much. So that is really a whole different category.

Don't you see that the M11x is meant to be that notebook? Not a cheap netbook though. Netbooks are god-awful pieces of junk. Slow, small, often just nasty. Not to mention the version of Win7 they use is supposedly very cut down.

The M11x provides on-the-go gaming ability as well as high portability, allowing for a desktop as well, and at $800-$1000 it's not exactly massively expensive.

    difficult situation you´re in....
i own a netbook for 2 years now, it´s 10" and i can tell ya, for me, its more than enough, depends what you´re planning to do with it
also, i did some gaming on it, and this is an Atom/Integrated Graphics/2GB Ram, also photoshop isn´t an issue, just needs some sec´s more AND you might not believe it, i rendered an AVCHD video also, BUT that is a different story, it takes time :D , but hey, that thing isn´t made for that, i hooked it up with my LCD TV, just for fun, and it worked great and on duty i need to connect it with a beamer for a few hours

mine has no fan and it gets, lets say....warm, so maybe thats why DELL didn´t go for the i series, one fan has a lot of work to cool an i and a Nvidia card

of course, i´m not happy with DELL´s decision of release the M11x without the newest i serie, but i´m quite sure, that the M11x will be a little powerhouse and still we are talking about 11", not 13 or 15

i need that beast to be on the go, get some battery life on integrated or sit in a meeting/office plugged in and do some games for a while and the M11x will definitly fulfill my needs :D

Sadly not for me. I wont be rushing off to get one, as it is still a debate what to get.

I am leaning towards a single system, as multiple can get annoying to set up (one in my dorm, almost always plugged in, the other on the go often). But when I come home for breaks, both will be packed up. Hence no desktop. But this would be best if I were to use my netbook on the go often, and need it for all my classes. I plan to take good old paper and pen notes, for many reasons.

Then within 1 system, what size? 14-15" I would only carry around when I need, and not often, as it may be bulky. But I have a special backpack that holds up to 15", so I am not worried about carrying it.

A smaller system, such as the m11x (that is still textbook/ notebook size, and not netbook-gets-lost-in-backpack size), may come around more often then not, just because it has the battery life, looks sweet to pull out, and is easy to use.

As you can see, I am still torn. But for all following my story, I have decided against the asus. I do not need all day battery, so why get a computer made for that? Instead I could get the Sony CW with better processor, current gen tech, and not pay a premium for it. Much better then the asus.

So once again: sony or alienware (and don't you dare bring up different asus models with core i like I saw, then I will never make up my mind :p)

The display and battery will decide whether i will get this or not.

The build quality should be good seeing that it is quite thick.

It's too bad the UL30JT is not out yet, would make your decision easy I think :D You should head out to a local store and check out the netbooks they have as far as screen size/quality they are mostly all the same from what I have seen. And you will get a feel for the general size of them, might help in your decision making.

If it we're me I would go for a 13-14" in your situation, only reason I will likely buy an 11x is because it is small cheap and plays games. I have other computers to do more important stuff on essentially this will just be a portable gaming machine for me and probably most people that buy it.

Hey all I am eagerly awaiting the launch news for the m11x so I set up a twitter account that scrapes the official alienware order page and info site as well as gizmodo for any news about the release. If anyone wants to follow or has any suggestions for other pages I could scrape for info message @m11xlaptop on twitter.

I know. But Chaos isn't necessarily looking for a gaming notebook. He wants something that might last for a while longer and such. Just an option. I'm not too excited about that model personally since it still doesn't have i7. I think I'd rather have the m11x than the u30jc posted on xoticpc.

Do you mean at CES or at a different website? On the ul30jt thread, someone commented that gentechpc said the ul30jt won't be out until March. At least by that time there should be some good benchmarks on the m11x. I'm just excited to see what the m11x is really capable of.

Justin from XoticPC has admitted that the specs may be off. so we shall see what they end up with come shipping day. I have dealt personally with XoticPC and absolutely LOVE how they handle business. I so wish that Flextronix would open up the m11x design to other sellers. I trust XoticPC more than any other seller out there.

On a side note: if it does come with the core i3, the ul30jc would be MUCH more powerful (CPU wise) than both the ul30jt and the m11x. the core i3 is not ulv and therefore about 2-4x as powerful. though the battery life would be severely limited.

    core i3 >>> core i7um

Haha no. I would prefer to see it now, than after I buy it.

Sadly, the aw, as much as I would love to get it, seems to be too small for me. And the m15x is to expensive and heavy for what I need. Its a shame.

So there is always the new line of asus running core i, the sony cw, and here is another asus I saw on the best buy website. What does this look like? Sadly its core i3 2.13ghz (but that should be plenty for me still).

    Asus

The other thing I like about this netbook is that it has the backlit keyboard to so for those looking at the Asus U30JC it doesn't look like that comes with one.

Doesn't seem to be a huge difference based on the CPU Benchmark website. Says the SU4100 ranks at like 393th place and the SU7300 ranks at like 388th place.

But with such a tiny processor, would you need VT-x on it? I think a virtualization on it will send this processor to a screeching halt.

On benchmarks the su7300 pulls ahead on some things I remember seeing. The extra mb cache is worth it to me especially for gaming.

Also I agree a 2/5/10 ship should mean we could preorder build earlier. Dunno though just hoping

as for white my guess is that's a Japanese color option. I want grey!!
