I called EPP to see if they could apply my discount through work. At first they said the m11x wasn't up on the website, so I e-mailed the lady the link. She looked at it for a couple minutes and said she would be able to apply it. I also asked about any further discounts using the Dell Preferred Account and the $50 dollar coupon for signing up for the EPP newsletter. She told me to e-mail her my customized order and that she would see what other discounts could be applied. Just sent off that e-mail...

I would pay $100 for a core i7 even a core i5 but not for a core 2 duo that has almost the same performance. Not even a 7% performance increase.

Except it isn't Pentium based, it is the EXACT SAME CORE AND ARCHITECTURE! The sticker on the laptop will be different, but in games, benchmarks, and actual performance it is less than 5% different, and in most things less than 1% different.

For a $100 upgrade that should be $50 or even $30 at the most it is ridiculous.

And for the record I always knew there would be no i5 or i7 processors with this. The UM versions of the i5/7 processors are not even out of the pipe, and the lowest tdp currently available versions are up over 30 watts, 3 times higher than the SU series. You cant get 6+ hours of batter on a processor eating 30+ watts. Just like switching on the 35 Watt Gpu lowers battery life from 6 to 2, a 35 watt cpu would have the same effect, and together it would mean something like less than an hour gaming with an i5.

I think a lot of people are balking at the $100 upgrade for something that should be at MOST $50, as it offers arguably almost no performance increase.

Alienware is price gouging on the processor for sure, I think they just set it at $100 because they figure everybody is going to max out the processor options because it is already not the ideal choice.

Does anybody have any information on overclocking the 4100 vs 7300?

They told me they would apply it. They also told me they would have to look at my configuration to see if they would apply anything else. Her e-mail told me to wait for her call, so I'm waiting to hear back.

I suppose if couldn't hurt to try. Just give them the us or uk link showing that it's up for pre-order in other places. The worst that can happen is that it's just not available for you yet.

Figured out the link for the Irish site. The difference between processors there is only 39Euro or 53USD. Which I would say is great but laptop comes to equivilant of 1,377.28USD when config with 4GB, 500GB HD, 7300 and rest base.

EDIT: Comes with bluetooth as default but no mention of SIM slot.

How come no one is picking up the Advanced 3 year Warranty for 199$? I would definitely be worried since this is the first computer to be so small yet have such a powerful video card.

The accounting side of me will not let me do it, I know thats how they make a lot of their money, so obviously the odds of me getting my moneys worth are not as high as them getting their moneys worth.

Plus when I read the contract it just started to seem to me like they would try to screw you one way or another.

For a 1000.00 unit, I don't see 200.00 warranty worth it to be honest.

You can quote me on this when I am right, but I say i5/i7 core refreshes in October of this year, but only expect a 10% performance gain, as it will still be the ultra low voltage versions which are not exactly beefy.

Cool looking little machine, but this chipset is slower than the AMD chipset in my HP TX2 with dual core. MAME and the DC emulator struggle with the 4100 and 7300. I confused the CPU's earlier to non-ULV chips. I have the entire MAME set on a 64gb thumbdrive and test laptops out with it. The 4100 and 7300 are weak with a lot of MAME games.

I was considering the M11x until the cpu specs were posted. I will stick with the $950 dollar CW27FX. The good news about the M11x will be that it opens the door now for other similar devices, but hopefully with better CPU options.

Looks like you will have to spend $1,100 to get the device to perform as expected (per the demonstrations).

20% on the i7 maybe when compared to the current SU processors....but the low TDP versions are clocked at 1060 Mhz with 2 cores and 3/4 megs of cache for the i5/7 respectively. They are not exactly fast, the fast i5/i7 mobile cores all eat 35+ watts.

The short version is they are clocked slower and the architecture performance increase only goes so far plus they are still duel core. There just isn't anywhere for big gains to come from IMO.

I was in the middle of pre ordering one, and stopped because I see NO wireless N card at all, just the WWAN card. Its not even listed in the hardware. I'm sure it's got to be in there, anyone else seeing this? I'm holding back until I can figure it out.

How far before October? 2 months? I can hardly imagine anything earlier than fall, plus those UM i5/7 cores are gonna be hard to come by at first, and Alienware will only be hurting themselves if they launch too early and of early adopters.

I will be interested to see battery life with a refresh, even the UM i5/7 cores take almost double what the SU cores are eating.

Odd, I didn't see it listed in the hardware list, did you? I assume it wasn't a option I missed.

I wonder if this will have an apple vibe unboxing experience? This is going to be the first AW I have ever owned.

This and my crossfire 5850 desktop and I am good to go! Plus possibly an iPad :)
