important questions:
how likely will i be able to add my own ssd without voiding the warranty?
Since this is alienware, will we be likely able to overclock the processor?
Also, how likely is it that we can install our own processor upgrade to any other given processor that fits the socket? I'm thinking top of the line ULVs if possible. I'm assuming this hella voids the warranty.
I really need to be able to replace the hdd to justify this purchase. -

alright everyone I'm really on the border on getting this and really need some advise....
Is there a huge difference between the two processors?
Is 160GB suffient enough for a hard drive?
Opinions on headphones?
opinions on external dvd/cd player they offer?
Overall best bang for your buck i guess you can say.
I play games like SC, Total War series, WoW.
Thanks for the help! -
the people asked for more, more options, more configurations. CPU + RAM + 7,200 rpm HDD, barely under 1,000. But if you look at this thread, lots of people were asking for options that would make it more than 1,000 dollars.

i am very disappointed that u have to add $$ for the cpu.... zzzz

Just dont get the $100 CPU and you can get much better upgrades elsewhere and stay under $1k. You wont see any difference in performance unless you use Virtualization.

The Envy looks like ever other laptop that HP sales, no style whatsoever.
Not to mention that envy is going to burn you, HP doesn't have a concept of cooling. -

anyone know anything about the whole "installing your own SSD" route? Does dell usually get pissed if you open up your computer past the things that can be accessed through a panel of sorts?

Not sure about this netbook though, it might no be easy to upgrade, we will have to wait and see. -
I've never had a computer where any warranty would be void installing an HDD. I can assume say you'll be fine installing your own hdd/ssd on this, BUT seeing the build of this, I'm not gonna say 100% since it's a small body with built in battery. Don't think that changes anything though, like the MacBooks etc.
I'm noticing how much more we're paying just for the portability and battery life - not that it's a bad thing, as everyone has their own priorities. I still want this little guy, but just for fun configuring an M15x is just a tad more in price even with just a few options here and there. The whole waitin til March thing is killing me, I feel like between now and then something else will pop up from the woodwork with a decent, prob not as good as 335m, card and processor. Anyway, I'll probably eat my words once I get the chance to do EPP and call it good. -

Just pre-ordered mine.
Black, 4gb of ram, 320bg hdd, su7300, bluetooth, rest default.
I debated getting the lower processor but considering how well the su7300 overclocks in the asus laptops I have hope someone figures out how to do it on this one and if I sell it later I can claim it has the fastest available processor.
I'm not usually an early adopter and I'm a little scared of this baby overheating and don't like the fact that the cpu is almost already outdated with no chance of upgrading to anything much better. But I'm heading out of the country in the middle of march for 3-4 weeks and didn't look forward to carrying around my gateway and the battery in my sony lasts less than 30 minutes now. -

$50 from 2 to 4 gigs isn't that bad, 8 gigs is a killer.
-
USD 100 is MYR350 like dat.. thats quite alot.. lol
SU7300 has extra 1MB L2Cache and VT .. hmm -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I agree, I would get the 4 GB
pairing 8GB with that processor is usually going to be a waste anyways -
The main reason I'd want to get SU7300 even though it's not a huge upgrade is hopes for OC'ing.. but I dunno
