I saved my cart and when I came back this morning there was a notice that, because of a warehouse issue, they are unable to provide me the bluetooth option. They subtracted the $20 and I couldn't add it back.

Alienware M11x Order - UK
XPS- System Only
When they let you know about the south african bluetooth please let me know
, we might hear drums when we use Bluetooth
.
-
Man after reading all the Alienware support reviews I am sort of scared to purchase now.
-
lol thank god i'm not alone....
still waiting on a reply,
on a plus side least we wont have any problems if we decide to visit south africa for the world cup
-
If you want to order it through Dell's EPP and finance it (and are in the US), after 2pm EST call 1-800-695-8133 and hit option 1 to dial in an extension and dial 6127731. His name is Carlo and he's pretty cool about everything.
Also getting a bluetooth adapter for your computer isn't very hard. As one poster before me said, bluetooth is hooked into the motherboard via USB anyway so you're not losing any functionality by getting an adapter instead of having it installed in the computer. -
Anyone recommend which gaming mouse to go with this? was looking at the Razer Orochi anyone have any opinions? least then i can use the internal bluetooth and not need a dongle
-
looks like we have to go through that bluetooth story again and fix it by ourselve
-
*facepalm* Oh no Fluus here we go again!
-
Just played around with upgrades and so on , and it is a bit under 1000€ , as promised by Alienware.
The battery life is excellent, but it has one downside.
It is build in. You can't easily swap it......and what will you do if after a few years the performance of that inbuild battery drops under 1 hour when full loaded?
Can you send it to Dell and let them replace it with a new one? -
Newb question
but should I be concerned about my bluetooth being a "south Africa bluetooth" i mean what on earth does that mean? bluetooth has regions? i've never used bluetooth before... -
hey bubba, my good old friend
after all that bluetooth stories we both were in, we could hire at DELL tech and do some home delivery
-
It's designed to be replaced by the user.
-
hey nagshead, also here again
any news regarding that bluetooth story ??

TO ANYONE WONDERING IF YOU NEED TO BUY THE GOBI CHIP IN ORDER TO USE THE SIM CARD FUNCTIONALITY
See where it says "WWAN -->"? That's where you can install the Gobi card.
This is where you can buy the card if you ordered yours without Gobi and want the functionality. -
I am hoping it has internal bluetooth. The order I placed yesterday without EPP had the option, that was through the gizmodo link. My order today did not have the option, this is through the alienware site. It does say in the tech specs though that it includes internal bluetooth, and since there is not an option to change it, one would assume it includes bluetooth.

One point noone seemes to complain about is that in europe (both uk and germany/austria) there is no option for a wwan/umts card - at least I have not seen any option for it.
Can I assume there is no wwan / umts in europe?
That's an option important to me..
Anyone knowys about if/when this comes available or if it can be added later on?
My contacts to dell were rather inconclusive. A guy on the telephone seemed surprised it is available since official launch date according to him (and i've heared that date elsewhere too) is this friday (5.2.) and I should wait until then.
On dell chat they told me they cannot tell me if/when it comes available but that its upgradable later on (you apparently can get the wwan card seperately, but at higher price). When I asked him if the wwan antenna (which is inside the display) is already installed by default he could not answer however (and he apparently could not even make sense of my question if the appropriate pci-express slot would be slothered on if no wwan is chosen or not - cause you could not even install it afterwards if there is no slot attached at the pre-defined place)
Maybe someone else knows more? -

Ordered!
-
I put in my order yesterday and got a receipt, but when I run the reference ID through Dell it just says "Pending" on everything. Should I have gotten something by now?
-
So what should I do about BT? Anyone know which adapter will fit and I will just swap it in myself.
-
Will su4100 run games like Total War affectively? If there isn't a huge difference then I would want to save the $100.
-
Bah, I ordered one LOL, Since people getting shipping date 2/11 that is much better, went to epp site and get one for 900 with tax and shipping 4gb's and su7300 that is better deal. Save 100 so processor for free basically as long as the order goes through.
-
I don't think we can know for sure since all the review models Alienware sent out have the better processor.
-
Can anyone post that $50 coupon link. If it works with my EPP I'm getting this thing for $920 which I can deal with.
-
Should be no noticeable difference between 7300 and 4100 in real world performance. I think maybe 7300 will oc's better though if that is your thing.
-
Concerning post of Ceolwulf of additional wwan card:
At least we know now that the slot is there even if you did not order it with this option (or could not, as in europe), right?
However I do not see some antenna cable for the module there, only the ones for the wifi card
what do you think about that?
Also about the sim-card slot (that is apparantly above the sd-card slot): does this mean its pre-built in for every system and connected-up to that slot where the wwan card goes in?
Would be great if anybody could shed some light... -
2 Questions (sorry if they've been asked already):
- What brand SSD does this come with (if added)?
- Does it void the warranty if I were to swap out the mechanical HD with an SSD myself?
-
Technically speaking unless something really strange happens the SU4100 should perform perhaps 5% slower than the SU7300.
In other words, if one will run it, so will the other. -
So for $100 more I can get a 5% increase? Sounds like a rip-off.
-
You can look up cpu benchmarks on those, for incanse here: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+SU4100+%40+1.30GHz
If you compare it to the 7300 is only a little bit faster, but if you want virtualisation support the 7300 is the one you want. -
It is, the chip only costs Alienware about $10 more. The real question now is do they both OC the same, I suspect they do, as they are the same core, architecture, everything except cache, but if they don't and you OC the SU7300 you get closer to a 20% increase in performance.
-
Sorry if I might ask..... what is virtualisation?
-
Allows you to run Windows XP mode within Windows 7. Basically a virtual machine. The CPU needs to support it (virtualization) and in this case, the SU7300 does.
-
1. the 256GB is a Samsung SSD - pretty big and reliable, all rounded, not quite the fastest around, but hey.
2. I think dell allows you to swap the HDD.
-
In the US its $100 for the better cpu, in europe its only 40 Euro more. Strange... i'll go for the su7300 once i got cleared if wwan card can be added seperately (or when that option becomes available in euope).
-
So after so much searching, I've put in my order thanks to my dad's work's EPP discount and $50 EPP coupon I've decided to go with it. The hardware heaven review helps me reaffirm my order.
So amped! Getting the Samsung 256GB SSD, I don't care if it's not as good, I got a good deal on it. I can live with no bluetooth by using a micro dongle, glad to see Wifi is listed on my build now. Also awesome to see it already says "in production" w00t. Hoping it's much sooner than the March 4th 2010 estimate.
Most excited about my cost:
-
Awesome. Thanks for the reply. I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on this one. I've been jonesing for a laptop that I can WoW on in a netbook-esque form factor and this one seems to fit the bill. The iPad can suck it.
-
*40 Euro is about $100.
Edit: 1 Euro = 1.3937 U.S. dollars
So you're right. Is a significant amount more. hhmm. -
I ordered yesterday and couldn't apply the $50 EPP coupon because they told me it wasn't on the EPP site. Think I could call back and get it added to my order?
-
Can someone possibly make a configuration for me? I'm a moderate gamer, who needs a computer for college. I love this size of this thing it be prefect but I torn on the CPU, Hard Drive, Memory aspect. Like i said i'm not the biggest gamer in the world but a legit system to fit my needs is all I'm looking for. I would like it to be a sub $1100 machine but you guys are experts so if you could make the best configuration it would be great.
Much Thanks -
But then again, the EU model is starts off at so much more expensive price level... its outrageous...
-
This is what I'm thinking.
I'm not entirely sure. Want me to buy the Gobi and give it a whirl when my M11x comes in?
I was planning on doing it anyway. My friend just ordered his M11x with Gobi and I can see how it's installed.
Yes I believe this to be true. -
Get U7300, pays off in the long run.
2GB RAM is nice, but 4 GB would be slightly better if not too expensive.
Hard drive opt either 320 or 500 GB, unless you really need SSD I wouldn't. -
Just get the barebones and upgrade the ram to 4gb, it's the only reasonable upgrade at 50 dollars. You can get bigger HD's much cheaper if you decide you need one later on and you won't notice any difference in the 2 processors performance wise, it will only show in synthetic benchmarks if at all.
-
If you're a college student, go here: http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=eep&cs=2236&eep_orig_cs=2236&oc=DKCWMN1&link_number=17970622 This will knock 10% off of your bill. Also go to http://app.subscription.dell.com/enroll/epp/signup.cfm?m=MEMBERID&/ and sign up for their newsletter to get a $50 coupon.
With regards to your query, I would say the SU7300 (since you're saving money anyway), the 160GB HDD (it's really easy to install another one), 4GB of RAM (it's only $45 for students to upgrade and that's worth the money). -
Dell is screwing me around with my order confirmation. They're saying they can't find any records of my Purchase ID. =(
-
Hum....
I can get this for $890 with the 7300 processor, 4GB and 320gig HD.........
Now if I were to be cheap and go the upgrade yourself I could get this system for $705!!!!!
I just need a review comparing the processor options!! -
Well, you can go for the gobi / wwan card if you want, but don't do it just for me... I would be greatful for any input on this, especially I cannot manage to find out myself (I plan to ask dell again, maybe a different guy there can tell more) until you or your friend recieve the notebook.
-
hey guys, just ordered my m11x. I have some positive news regarding some murky issues. first is that bluetooth DOES come standard with all m11x's. the sales person i spoke to on the epp phone sales told me that it is confirmed that it comes with bluetooth 2.1. also the cosmic black finish is not glossy but in fact matte. hope this helps. oh ya, if you want to order this badboy you guys should phone up the epp division. the regular sales department gave me no rebates whatsoever. once transferred to the epp department, i instantly got 150bucks off without even asking for it. was able to get mine, fully loaded, for $970 with taxes and shipping included. hope this helps.
