What's this epp department? Is this just something existing in the US or also in europe (where I live). I sure would be interested in a rebate if I knew how to get it.

Bluetooth is included. It might be shown as optional in other regions, but for the US it should be included. Was there a specific concern regarding bluetooth?

yes, yesterday on the early config site for US it was a $20 option. NOw today it is missing. My order didn't have the option and doesn't show in my build config confirmation either although shown in others with "south african" lol I do hope it's included.

Can't see it on the Canadian site, either.

Also, the hardware heaven review I think has pushed me over the edge on this one. I want it.

For the RAM question though, does anyone know how much better (or perhaps worse?) it will perform with 8gigs than 4? Any ideas? Especially in apps like photoshop and so on... Essentially, is it worth the 350?

Well, I caved after reading this review: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviews.php?reviewid=924&pageid=1

Being able to overclock it to 1.6GHZ at the expense of only a one degree Celcius temperature increase sealed it for me. The gaming tests also had very favorable results.

With student and EPP discount, I got it with 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, 7300 processor, for $924.38 shipped. Not bad at all.

I'd imagine not, but I haven't seen any tests results on that. RAM prices always drop, so I'd order it with 4GB, and if it seems as though extra RAM would help once I have it, I'd replace one of the 2GB chips with a 4GB chip to end up with a nice 6GB for a LOT less. 8 seems like overkill IMO.

Hello guys I'm new to this forum and plan on getting the m11x but need ur help. Can someone explain to me in detail how the braodband antenna thing works? I have Att w an iPhone and would like to know if this means that I can put my sim card and start using 3g?!? Is Att gonna charge me extra? I have the 30 dollar iPhone plan. I don't know how this works. Thank u for ur help in advanced.

Ps. Why does everyone choose silver lunar? I'm having a hard time making up my mind.

You need to order the Gobi Mobile Broadband card for AT&T in order to use this feature. The M11x has a SIM card slot in it by default but in order to take advantage of this slot, you need to order the Gobi card. If you already have a data plan, AT&T should not charge you extra as long as you don't go over the 5GB soft cap data limit.

Edit: I'm a fan of black so I went with Cosmic. The silver just didn't hit me too hard.

From the IGN review ( http://gear.ign.com/articles/106/1065816p1.html):

"We were most surprised by the M11x's ability to run Mass Effect 2 with every visual effect turned on and resolution set to maximum (1366 x 768). Not only did Mass Effect 2 run at maxed out specs, but it consistently ran above the industry standard of 30 frames-per-second. The average framerate for Mass Effect 2 at max specs on our M11x was around 45 frames-per-second, although at times it reached up to 50 or 60 frames per second.

That makes a lot of sense and was one of my backup plans; there won't be any trouble from running on 4gb chip and one 2gb, will there?

Does the M11x actually have a sim card slot built in, so I can remove my Tmo sim from my phone and put it in the M11x?

IGN said it did, but I am not seeing the spec for this.

Yes it is. Make sure you select "for AT&T." From my understanding, you will not need anything from AT&T if you already have a SIM card with a data plan. If you would like to wait to make sure, my friend ordered the M11x with Gobi and we will be fooling around with it as soon as he gets it.

Personally, this feature is amazing. I travel a lot and sometimes I can't find a WiFi spot. If you're weary about Gobi, though, you do not have to order it and you can get it later and install it yourself. I will be ordering the Gobi card after I get my laptop and I will upload a tutorial on how to install it for you guys. I know a good number of people found this feature essential.

I signed up for the EPP program, but I'm not sure if it'll do anything. I also called them, and apparently if you have a discount through a company OR a student discount then it's applicable.

I am still confused about the SIM feature and I am a geek.

    1. Is it built in so a SIM from a cell phone card can be added straight to it?
    2. Will it work with Tmobile US?
    3. Verizon does not have SIM cards, they use CDMA, so how would a SIM work for them?

    Thanks

Thank you so much for all that information... I'm going to go with your idea. One more question if i might add, if i go with the 160gb what should I upgrade to? I think someone mentioned to get a new hard drive from newegg or something like that. Let me know what you think.

Good, cause it looks like I was the only guy to order it with the WoW preinstalled edition. :)

"...with settings set high on Borderlands, we found the M11x running the game at an average of 30 to 40 frames-per-second, momentarily dipping just below 30 during intense combat. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the M11x handled the zombie hordes of Left 4 Dead with no framerate drops of any kind at maxed out settings, running at an average of 50 frames-per-second. Finally, we gave the M11x a runthough with the RTS favorite – Company of Heroes. Given the large, detailed maps paired with multiple enemies, on-screen and off, we expected only average results, but to our surprise the M11x ran the game with little or no system strain.

(Posted the Mass Effect part already but these pages are moving so quickly that I decided to include it in this post, too :p )

I got the 160GB HDD because I will be buying a HDD from newegg. I could always use an extra 160GB HDD so I will also get an external case to put the old HDD in.

    1. The SIM card slot is built in to the chassis/mobo. That will always be there. The functionality of using the SIM card for wireless internet is optional, though. You will need to buy the Gobi for AT&T in order to get the full use of this SIM card slot.
    2. I'm not sure if it will. That will be one of the things I will have to test when my friend's lappy comes in.
    3. The Gobi cards can be switched to Verizon CDMA but I'm not sure how they will work, either. I think you will have to do something additionally on the software-side. Here is the link to the Gobi card at Dell: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Networking_Enterprise_Class/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=313-7847
