Hmm, sorry. Did you try it? I'm guessing you did and it rejected your zip code?

EDIT: Searched around and it sounds like you may have to call for the EPP discount in Canada.

Hmm, that would make sense. So EPP can also be a student thing as opposed to employee pricings?

i ordered this last night and got the receipt and the work in progress order status
also says my estimated arrival date is 10th feb :D only problem i had with ordering was the name plate as it didnt give me a option to do anything with it.

also the price for the same specced m11x today has gone up £200.

i have spoken with dell about my order and everything seems to be fine and from what dell told me my order is in production.

so i guess i will wait and see what happens.

I know I was ragging on this thing before, but as I said I needed hard numbers before ordering.

Today those numbers are out, and it's goddamn impressive. The only thing NOT impressing me = the ship date.

The hardwareheaven.com review said that the BIOS has an option for overclocking and that when it's overclocked to 1.6 it's only a 1 degree increase.

The slot for the sim card is, in my understanding there for any model. It can be found on the left side above the sd-card slot (check some close up pictures on the net and you will be able to see it).
For the models where no wwan card is installed, this slot is unused.
So yes, you should be able to use your sim card from your phone and slide it in there.

However, I would call alienware/dell and ask them to make sure.

Something to point out and this is called out when you configure your system: The Gobi card option also includes the WWAN antenna. Which means if you don't purchase the Gobi now and you later decide you want mobile broadband, your likely solution will be a USB module.

Do you guys think the SU4100 will OC the same as the SU7300?

I can't see why it wouldn't, in fact CPUs with less cache have usually been more OC friendly.

The Gobi card is the WWAN card. Here is the Gobi card if you did not select the option in configuration. Here you can see where you install the WWAN card (the big white letters). It installs similarly to the WLAN card.

The reason why I went with the 7300 was because I've been burned in the past by processor options. My first gen MBP has a core Duo instead of a Core 2 duo, and it heats up to 85C when playing wow so..........

    And also resale value.

Hey guys, I really want to get this but I have some concerns.

I will be choosing the SU7300, and 4GB ram option.

Will this laptop be enough to do light programming such as Matlab and C++.

Also, will the 'slower' CPU compared to normal size laptop's CPU affect the speed and performance for general uses such as web surfing, and watching HD videos...?

just spoke with dell customer support again and the uk model you cant customise the name plate that is why we dont get the option. :(

also the there is no wwan option or antenna installed. :( shame that is one of the main features but i can always install my own since i have bought it already for n10 and never fit it.

This CPU is more than enough to watch HD movies (along with the GPU) and doing web surfing. I'm not sure about Matlab or C++, as I only do web development, but I can't imagine it being terribly worse than a 2.3 ghz CD2.

If you order your system without the card, it won't include the WWAN antenna. That should be explained in your order description. See that tiny black and white arrow on the top of the card? that's where the antenna connects - it is routed through the LCD panel. Without that, you won't have much reception and the alternative is a USB module.

If you want mobile broadband either now or later, you should order it with the system to ensure you have the WWAN antenna included.

Thanks ceolwulf, I need the laptop to do a little programming and on top some really general use and light gaming. The exterior design and the portability really are attractive. Its ashame dell is ripping us here in the UK off with the more expensive price tag, so I need to see if it can really do what I need it to do before I order it.

The base processor (S4100) IS A DUAL CORE PROCESSOR that runs at the SAME 1.3GHz as the SU7300 ($100 upgrade). However, it has a 2MB cache instead of a 3MB cache.

Currently AT&T and Verizon is what's offered.

Not to say another carrier couldn't work, but Alienware is not supporting it at this time.

    btw guys,

I pre ordered yesterday and got the email confirmation telling me that in 24 hours I would receive ANOTHER confirmation with my customer number.

its been almost 24 hours now and I haven't received anything yet, and when I go to my account there are no recent orders to display, If I enter the order number I go to another page that seems flawed but it says Pending orders: 1

Anybody know whats up? I'm getting worried...

arrgh... do want, but was just about to get the Best Buy Sony CW with the i5 and GT330. This would be my main rig, apart from my work lappy... Right now I have a Sony SR with the ATI 3470 and the C2D P8400. Never really tax the cpu, but I play a lot of L4D2 and some WOW and the gpu gets worked pretty good... Don't get me wrong, my Sony SR runs ok, but would be nice to run medium to high settings..

I would totally jump on this, but I still am a little scared about the cpu... am I going to notice a huge drop from my P8400? If the cpu isn't soldered you could probably put in a SU9600 in there or even gamble slightly with the heat for an SL with the same socket, SL9300 I think??

I don't care about the screen size, I loved my old XPS m1210.

It really sucks since that CW from Sony is about the exact same price...

I'm really wanting to get this... but I'm really concerned about the power of the cpu...

It's pretty often that I find myself with WoW , VMWare, and an IDE like Eclipse running, on top of other smaller programs (Browser,IM Clients, etc...)

Can this processor handle everything at the same time without problems??

    (I'm planning on SSD/4 or 8gb ram).

    tnx.

I had the same exact problem. Did you go to the Gizmodo link? They said the link was sometimes messing up and so it wasn't filling out all of the customization info, meaning the database saw the order as "incomplete" and so wouldn't send the confirmation and process it. So some people (like me) have to redo their order through the main Alienware page.

My problem too. I already ordered the CW27X from BB for $950, but I already have a Q8200 desk top loaded for gaming. The M11x would be nice since small and great on battery. As a second system for travel, this M11x seems a good option.

I would not consider the M11x as a main system. The CW27FX would be a much better option. The i5-530 in that system rocks and has Blu-ray. Not exactly a device to have too far from a power socket, but GREAT as a main device.

When I called Dell, they said while it appeared the customization was fine, it actually didn't process, so it's basically a dead order that's just laying there.
