If you are referring to this one, at £1725 exc vat and delivery for THAT spec, I dunno HOW you can say its overpriced, given the spec of 2960xm and 580m sli.

Actually, I returned a rig not long ago with that EXACT spec....its probably the one I sent back.

That deal is a cracker.....if I didnt have one already, I would bag that baby right away if you are in the market for a powerhouse at a massive saving over list price. You cant POSSIBLY think you are gonna get a M18x with those components for less than £2070...(list price would be £3,380)...if you do, your nuts !

The phrases you're looking for are "banf for buck" and "perceived value".

I dont reckon you need something that powerful! But it does seem like cracking discount!

    then again, i wouldn't drop 2k on a computer!

Looks like someone snapped up that M18x anyway.....that really was a cracking deal for a maxed out system. I guess it all depends on what you want to use a system for....if its purely gaming, the XM cpu could be considered as overkill but on the otherhand, the higher spec you get at time of purchase will prolong the "life" of your system. Dual 580's and a 2960xm will still be able to crank out performance on tomorrows games, moreso than a single gpu setup and an entry level cpu.

Basically, you get what you pay for at the end of the day. When I bought mine, I wanted to ensure that it would be as "future-proofed" as possible, in terms of being able to play games that will be released in the future.....as I dont want to change it in 12-18mths time, it was wiser for me to get more power NOW than maybe being forced to look at upgrading before I would want to.

There is also no such thing in the computer world as "too much power" LOL :D

It had issues with turning itself on as soon as I flicked the switch for juice at the wall....alienfx lights would come on and when I shut it off, system fans would come on until the power was turned off at the wall. Must have been some kind of short on the mobo but I was able to return it and get a new build instead of a repair. If it was my old rig on the outlet, it would have been refurb'd to remedy those problems I imagine.

Joleara, loving the M14x! Its kicking out every game i throw at it, its a great size, and its not that heavy! so i can commute with it on public transport when i dont have the car! And the price i got it for is unbelievable! Alas i dont reckon anyone will hit that price point for a while.

Spoke to the rep earlier on another matter. he said it was his first 0 sale day in a while. sounds like sales are really down at the moment, worse than last jan. not sure whether that means reps are more willing to deal discounts to get more sales, or whether they're not allowed discounts, so they arent getting sales!

alienware, roccat, tokyoflash. I love LED's..

Hey Guys, was looking for a bit of help/advice, I'll give you a little background and try to be brief.

    I've litrally just purchased an m11x R3, it's just about to turn a month old. I've upgraded the ram from 4g->8g and I was a happy man. Till my brother purchased an m14x and got it under a week ago. I really feel like an idiot for rushing my purchase;

i5 1.6ghz (dual core with 2.3ghz turbo boost)
    4gig ram
    Nvidia 540m 1gb
    Killer wireless

    (£699 - jan sales)

Most of you will know the spec I mean no doubt, however for £300 more my brother got the m14x i7 2.2ghz and GT 555m 3gb which runs games noticeably better than mine. Now don't get my wrong I love the m11x it's a little beast, however I'm not using it as mobile as I was expecting to be, mainly for LAN parties when I'm using a socket anyway. It's out performed by my brothers M14x everytime.

Basically does anyone know of any trade/exchange deals that dell do, where I can get the majority of the money back towards and m14x or will I have to go on the eBay route (min I would sell it for is £650 since its mint, especially with the upgraded ram), could anyone estimate a guess at what rep prices i'd be looking at for the i7 2.2ghz quad.

I would of spelt checked this, revised the wording better but I'm at work so can't really.

If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.
    Kind Regards,
    Jordan

Dell actualy do a trade in programme but you would get nowhere near what you want for your M11x. I think your best bet would be to try Ebay, Craigslist or the like. That would get you the most cash back for your system and then look at the M14x.

If you want, hit me up via PM, when you have forum priveledges to do so after 5-10 posts, and I will hook you up with my rep.

    Hi Steve,

Spoke to your rep day before last. Lovely bloke and was indeed able to offer me approx 14.5% off on a m17x. Alas I couldn't get it due to credit issues my end. Anyhow. Thought it would be good to share info. I hope to back to him shortly to go ahead with an order. Grr to adverse credit!

Good luck with it, thanks for the feedback - it's nice to hear.

The 580 is a killer gpu. Having two is even better ;) - regarding 3d, its like marmite...you either love 3d or hate it. I am of the latter opinion. I also thought I couldnt tolerate having to wear 3d goggles....not cool! LOL. The only good thing (from what I would say - just my opinion) about the 3d screen is the 120hz refresh...if you have a game running at up to 120fps, no need for vsync with those figures.....

Waaaaayyy better....its the flagship dual gpu MONSTER of a gaming laptop. It maxes out any game I throw at mine wheras a single gpu m17x will do very well, it wont hold a candle to an m18x.

Well, lets just say my rig rolled in at about £4800 but I got it alot cheaper. :)

Differences between the 17x R1 and 17x R3? - for a start, the old 17x R1 had an anodized aluminium case whereas the R3 is plastic/soft touch. Also the older R1 was capable of dual gpu's but the R3 is not.

R1 would not have hdmi in, but the R3 does - handy if you wanna plug in a ps3 and use the laptop's display.

No high speed usb 3.0 ports on the R1.

R1 cpu max would be QX9300 and would not be upgradeable to any core I7 chip, due to sockets being different on the mobo - R3 uses the latest sandybridge architecture for cpu's and may well be able to be upgradeable to Ivybridge next gen cpu's when they roll out - socket & Bios update permitting.

Also, I dont think you would be able to upgrade the gpu's easily to todays latest and greatest cards.

Just a few differences that spring to mind.....

Larger discounts were being obtained via cashback websites and stacking voucher codes - as there are no vouchers right now, you won't get those kind of reductions. Best bet at the moment would be to deal with my rep. and see what he can offer you.

Indeed, we do our best to post vouchers on here as and when we see them. at last check online you could get 10.1% cashback using topcashback.com, and free delivery using the voucher. So if the rep can hit 15% he gets you better discount.

That said, spoke to him the other day and looks like the vouchers available to reps are a tad on the rare side too. so not sure what the current average discount rate is. But if you dont ask, you dont get!

Indeedy! - discount will vary with each system and each specification. Basically, each component will give Dell a different profit margin - may be the case there is more profit in 580m Sli than 6990 crossfire as an example. Goes without saying that the more you spend, the more discount you will likely get.

Gotcha. Well, as I have said before, alot depends on how much you are spending and the configuration of your new system. Obviously the lesser you spend, the smaller room for discounts. If you are looking to buy new, I would definetly recommend getting a quote from my rep - nothing ventured, nothing gained and all, eh?

I would also add that if you look at it logically, why would Dell heavily discount a brand new system moreso than the same system on the outlet? - it doesn't make good business sense to do that. If you are looking at one specific system/specification, you wont get the same system/specification NEW from a rep cheaper than the exact same system on the outlet. For sure.

I'd rather have a brand new one if I'm paying that much money to be honest. EPP is just an 8% employee discount from certain companies or student discount if you're at university.

I think I'm just going to hold out until late september'ish, which is when all the big discounts start coming in for xmas apparently.
