steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
That is a good deal......although some people will still expect to get it cheaper....
-
also a great one with a 6990 or around 900 mx 17
-
Just looked at current pricing in case to my joy everything was marvelously cheaper. Alas no. But I did notice no killer wireless option. What happened? Are us Brits being short changed again?
-
There is free shipping on outlet systems now + with the 20 off code (S547ZDTTZ5ZRLV) thats around £44 discount
-
Do you guys think it's worth getting the m18x with the 2960xm from Dell for £900 or from ebay for £600?
-
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Do you mean just the cpu? - if so, I would definetly go with the OEM 2960xm from Dell.....it will be better than any ES or QS chip you buy off Ebay and will also be covered under your Dell warranty should anything "blow up" ....for the extra, I think its worth it. -
Why do you think it'll be better than a chip off ebay? (Performance wise) =/
-
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Well, if you are looking at an ES (engineering sample) chip, the base clock tends to be a bit lower vs. OEM chips. I just had a quick look on ebay and all of the 2960xm cpu's seem to be OEM chips right now which is a good thing I guess. The 2920xm's on ebay are QS which is better than the ES and on par with OEM's and are the final "quality control" samples that Intel use for testing - what you will have to remember is that if you buy an XM chip off Ebay, you will also need a dual piped heatsink too to be able to run it effectively within thermal limits - if you buy a non-xm from Dell and upgrade yourself, you will find that your system only ships with a single piped heatsink which is not sufficient to cool the xm under extreme loads.
Given that you would have to shell out some more for the correct heatsink, and the fact that you wouldn't have Dell warranty makes it a no-brainer to me....however, lots of people go the route of buying a chip off ebay and there is nothing wrong in doing so.....just be aware that its likely not to have a long warranty (laptopmonkey give 3mths which is extendable but I dont know how much that costs) whereas if you get the chip from Dell, its covered for a minimum of 12 months at no extra cost or for as long as you decide to extend the warranty for ono your system AND you have the correct heatsink right off....for me, I have 4 years so the chip is covered for 4 yrs also.....
Up to you at the end of the day - save a feq quid and take a chance or just be done with it at the outset. Either way you look at it, £600 or £900 is alot of money and from a personl viewpoint, I would want to protect my money should something go wrong - for as long as possible. -
Ah that's pretty sweet. How did you manage to get a 4 year warranty? As it's not on the dell website. I can imagine it'll be quite expensive if the 3 year warranty is an extra 265 quid!
-
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
You can ask for other warranty options that arent listed on the website when you discuss your quote with my Dell rep. It shouldnt be over inflated to go for 4 yrs or maybe 5 if thats an option, but believe me, Dell warranty is worth every penny - especially when you are thinking of dropping a few thousand on a laptop....if anything goes wrong, you are covered and if they cant fix it, they will replace it with the equivalent system at that time. Personally, I woulndt go for a system that costs so much without covering my back as long as possible. You can ask many of the guys here and they will tell you the same....Dell warranty rocks. -
Hmm that's true. I'm still stuck on the M17x or the M18x. Not sure which one to choose. Which one do you think I should go for seeing as I'm a student?
-
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Both are great in their own right. M17x is probably a bit lighter so if you are carrying it around alot, it may be better from that perspective - although with a decent backpack like the m18x orion, that kinda nullifies that argument.
The way I would look at it is in terms of sheer performance - the M18x will blow the M17x out the water with dual gpu's - sure, it might be a bit heavier, but it has a whole host of additional benefits over the M17x R3.
If you plan on 3d gaming on the go, it has to be an M17x R3 though...... -

Wow !
Some nice discounts there, was looking to buy an m18x sometime soon and was leaning towards the prices of the outlet rather than new....
System im looking at comes out at £3,279.85 (new) with all available discounts £2,246.07
Thanks again,
Dave. -
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
I should let everyone know that my Dell Rep won't be able to discount outlet systems - I have had several enquiries along this line but unfortunately, the systems are already massively reduced to clear. I also don't think you can use Dell vouchers for an outlet purchase.
-

Hiya Dave - nah mate - wasnt aimed at anyone specifically, just a heads up!.....wow, new sytem huh? - that looks like a good deal right there!
-
Any coupons available which work in Europe, more specific in Belgium?
I tried a lot of them and none of them do work. If it could get me an M14X 100 euros cheaper, it would make me very happy. -
Wow you received like a 32% discount. How did you manage that?
-
Hi,
I had to check it myself too........
8% EPP Discount
Additional '12%' voucher in this thread
Im also entitled to tax free so thats another 20% off
Best regards,
Dave. -
lol how did u get tax free also u order from uk or on the continent ?
-
I think Dave should be ordering all our systems tax free then run a delivery service.
-
LOL,
Dont tempt me
I currently live in Germany so get my tax free that way
and order from the UK site
Best regards,
Dave. -
Haha you lucky guy! Don't you have to pay German tax (19%) since you live in Germany?
-
Nope
!!
Im actually from the UK so am able to import into Germany, also dell over tax free to BFPO
Regards,
Dave. -
What sort of a difference in price would there be now between using coupons or a rep for a maxed out system
-
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Well, it depends on what system you are looking to max out really. If its an M11x, thats at the lower end of the Alienware laptops, in terms of price. Obviously, if its M18x that you are looking at maxed out, thats over £4000 so there is more room for the rep to give discount........again, the more you spend, the better deal can be had via the Dell rep. route.
Either way, its well worth looking into what can be offered by my guy - you dont have to take it and you might be pleasantly suprised !
-
Would be a m18x with most upgrades except for ram and hard drive mainly because I could buy those much cheaper.
I'll give you a pm with specifics once I get 5 posts. Thanks for the kind offer btw. -
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Glad to help out. Actually, once you have PM priveledges, drop me a message with the info requested on page 1 and I will get my rep to contact you to discuss. It works alot better this way around rather than me giving you his details and you contacting him, having to explain your association with me etc etc - if I get him to contact you, he already knows that its a referral via myself and hopefully, he will be able to offer you a better deal because of the business I/we/NBR puts his way.... -
hello Stevie, been following the thread for awhile and decided to register. Was wondering if your Rep would do a good deal for the Precision M6600 as well?
-
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Definetly. Its another flagship model which is super expensive LOL.....basically, he can do a good deal on ANY Dell stuff, desktop, laptop, AW or anything Dell orientated.
Hit me up when you get PM priveledges and I will hook you up with him. -
Thanks Stevie, much appreciated. Just got to ramp up my posts now lol
-
Hey guys - another 10% off coupon. Seems to work with M14x, M17x and M18x. Tried with M11x but it wouldn't apply it.
HBQ?356MFT620Z - Expires 29th February
Wish I could take advantage of this and the £170 savings on one of the M14x deals on dmxdimension but of course I'm going on holiday and the delivery time would be whilst I was away. Boo!
-
Awesome great job.
Wouldn't the courier company hold it for you whilst you were on holiday? -
Not sure, I talked to a guy online through the chat and he said they might not be able to sort that with the delivery company. Also there's the 7(?) day return policy where you can get a full refund. So I'd want to be around for that time just incase something is wrong with the system or in the unlikely event I want to return it because I don't like it.
-
Surely there are other consumer rights that allow you to return it up to 28 days later?
Also, dont forget to go through topcashback to track your additional 5.05% cashback. -
Not sure, just going by what it says on Dell's website.
If I haven't heard from Stevie's rep by tomorrow I'm unsure whether I should go ahead and buy to make use of 10% coupon and 5.05% cashback (and £170 off the M14x on dmxdimension, which is a really good reduction I think?) or to wait to hear from a rep, by which time the 10% coupon will have no doubt expired. Hmmmmm! Any help?
Saving £££ in the UK buying ANY Dell/AW system OR accessories - please contribute!
