doesnt matter, you have to change your motherboard to install 8800M GTX.
-
nevermind, i know what you mean, but man why dont they freaking say that if we have MXM3 type 8800 then we would definitly offer it for m9750..
-
Would take away from the M17X sales.
-
So I am assuming it would cost way to much to replace the motherboard, cpu, and graphics card? Probably better to just wait another year and buy another laptop. How would you get a new motherboard in the first place?
-
If Clevo is in fact using MXM-III 8800GTX's then they should fit directly into the motherboards we have. The only question that needs to really be answered is if there is actually MXM-III 8800's available.
-
i am calling tomorrow about MXM 3 card....
Hey Mr. Kock allienware will not replace motherboard cpu and video card for you, they would simply ask you to buy m17x. As Frag said we need to know if they have MXM 3 card available if yes then we can replace it. Moreover, i would think alienware would want to conceal such info right now prior to releasing m17x. But nonetheless i will call them again -
Hi!
Is there someone knows if any of the 9000go gpu series will fit in our m9750 or we will be screwed up with our 7950gtx?
You know, these days, i still can find agp cards for my old desktop... may be
it's not a big market enough for build better dx10 gpu cards than 8700go.....
for us -
m9750 is awesome, but that Sager NP5793 look so tempting and cost the same wit 8800m GTX (2600 before tax), don't know what to do.... m17x with 8800M GTX will cost at least 3500 before tax and its panel is glossy like HP
-
guys the ones that have 9750 how does Crysis runs with newest drivers, what max resolution you can go to get at least 30fps (with max details).?????thx
-
Ichia
i have no idea, for nvidia 9m hasn't been announced, no way to know. I mean, they freaking cannot say if 8800 will fit and its been out for like 6months already and you are asking about 9th version -
-
@Mini - There is actually a MXM-III version of the 8800GTX.

Ok Stone, but where ?
No one see it for few month, since 8800 launch...
I saw this Clevo link... and Clevo don't use MXM3 but MXM HE since they used santa rosa refresh (M570RU-U) plateform...
Every Clevo are with 8800 HE type. Why do you think they must have change every 570RU and D900 motherboard ? How many $ they spent because of this incompatibility between new 8800 and 1rst clevo plateform ?
You really think they do this only for our pleasure ?
And nothing can change it.
They do mistake on their site because MXM HE and MXM 3 have same dimension : 100mm x 82mm is MXM3 dimension.
Stone, ask, in Sager and Clevo thread, M570RU-U and D901C owners to open their laptops and take pics of this famous 8800...
I know the answer : same type everywhere... MXM HE
Mxm 3 8800 is a ghost ! -
After digging thru various threads here I found this thread that shows the card in the M57 series and it sure looks like an MXM-IV or HE card to me. So maybe its a typo on clevo's sight or they changed their motherboard.

Unfortunetly... but m9750 looks so good, that ugly ess clevo doesn't match up. AW is such a "bad boy"...
-
i ran the built in benchmark and got 7 fps average at wuxga on all high in dx9 mode and 10 fps average with sli.
16 fps average in sli with wsxga resolution, same all high in dx9 and 23 fps average in all medium settings.
crysis should be played in 1280x960* all medium settings to get a playable framerate with m9750. you need to average 27 or more fps average in the timedemo otherwise the game is not playable.
some fool themselves into thinking 14 frames per second during gun fights is playable but the reality is that the m9750 cannot run crysis on high settings. -
-
It is funny how civic owners think they are driving BMW or Benz.
K, sounds so childish.
Maybe the one with the orange trim and sime design would be ok, but you have to admit m9750 is just bad boy, can't match "rubberized" case.. lol -
another news AW dont offer 7950 anymore...
-
I still wonder if the Quadro card now offered for the m9750 comes in different MXM formats. The reason I ask is cause that card is the base card for the sager that is upgradeable to the dual 8800's.
-
I'm just glad I got my M9750 before they pulled the 7950GTX option
-
hey guys, i have the alienware m9750 laptop, with the nvidia 7950 gtx card in it right now (came shipped with that in) and i was wondering if its possible to upgrade that, or is that not possible with laptops, as there is heating issues, anyone have any info?
also with the memory, if its possible to up the memory, just curious what is available to upgrade and what isn't
thanks guys.

Our huge discussion about possible upgrades. -
Hi lajo12345,
Yes, it is possibly to throw in some 8700 cards. All you have to do is reference the card removal procedure on the Alienware forum. However, I really wouldn't upgrade if you don't have to. The 7950 cards are actually stronger. The only thing you gain with the 8700 cards is direct x 10, and possibly a whole lot of frustration. I'm currently using 8700 cards, and I'm beginning to think that I should have gone for the 7950s.
Hope this helps,
Gabe -
And 8800 GPU is HE type -
With the current drivers the difference between 7950's and 8700's is becoming smaller and smaller. Keep in mind that up to a 1400 resolution they will perform the same with the 8700's offering dx10. Any resolution higher then that and the 7950's will perform better then the 8700's. I have 8700's and use an external monitor with max resolution 1280x1024 and it performs brilliantly.
-
The problem is that, to meet native res on most of our m9750s, we need 1920 x 1200 wherever possible.

I have some bad news for M9750 owners, can't say this was unexpected though - this is the official response from Alienware regarding the M9750's compatibility with the 8800M-GTX:
-
WHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYY>????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I kinda knew that was going to happen, oh well -
Notice how they release this information AFTER the m17x is announced. I guess they must be running out of m9750s now since people who bought it thinking it would be upgradeable like the sager are screwed, meh if I ever get another laptop its going to be a Sager.
-
-
Now lets not be unreasonable to them. I am an m9750 owner, and I am disappointed that the upgrade will not be available. But we already know there is a technical reason, and they could not change it if they wanted to.
While it would be nice, buying the computer with the full expectation that the 8800m would be compatible would be stupid. I am still very happy with my computer, and everyone knew going in that they would someday be trumped. If you don't want to have a computer be faster than the one you bought a year ago, move to a third world nation and live under a rock. This is how technology works, and it is part of the reason it interests people. -

See the thing of this is that they said in the past that yes it would support it in order to boost sales but now they are reversing that decision...to boost sales of their far more expensive m17x which is just a penryn/8800 refresh of the 9750. It's crap like this that makes me steer people as far away from AW as possible. I don't care how good it games, you can get something as good, if not better, from another company and actually be treated like a customer instead of a wallet.

Externally yes. We have no way of knowing if the internal layout is similar the the M9750 or not. Spec wise the m17x is just an upgrade from merom to santa rosa more or less. Yes its has faster processors and vc's but lets call it what it is. It is certainly not as far a leap as the m15x was when it was released. That being said, I still think its a very nice machine though its a little on the large side.

Alienware-Laraque Company Representative
Just to be clear, the M9750 and the m17x have two different manufacturers.
-
Thanks for clearing that up for us AW-Laraque.
I was pretty sure that the two were completely different.
-
Do you think it will work with our m9750 ?
http://sg.vr-zone.com/articles/Kingston_Offers_HyperX_DDR2_Series_For_Notebooks/5745.html
Why not? If not, why? -
On topic: i probably wouldnt upgrade to the gtx even if it was offered. Why? Well if you put 2 8800m's they will definately be bottlenecked by the napa meroms, heck they are bottlenecked even on a x900. If it was a single card i still wouldnt upgrade as the performance is not that much higher (compared to 7950gtx's and oc'd 8700s) and not worth the price (at least $500 for the card + a hefty premium for a mobo revision knowing AW) -
@dozzen
thank you
I'd bought them few minutes ago and i'll let you know how are they...
when i get them... a week or so... -
isnt this the same ram but just different brand, both are 667 cl4

I think so...
Did you see a better performance in something with those? -
say for instance nvidia makes the 9800m series an mxm III type card.
this would mean it would be compatible with any notebook with mxmIII type connectors right? so the m9750 can use any future card that is mxm III, II, or I? or is there some motherboard restriction that i don't know about? because if that is true, then technically, it would be far too difficult to determine if a notebook is actually future proof. or is nvidia planning on developing new mxm types for each series they create, thus, eliminating the whole goal behind mxm cards?
perhaps there is still hope? -
Lol! This idea will never die. Viva la MXM! I hope it will, but honestly have no idea.
-
cooling system might not hack it. and why would nvidia suddenly make cards that don't use the III-HE standard?
-
what actually is the MXM standard then? it seems nvidia keeps creating new MXM type cards. if they're doing that, whats the point of making MXM if they're not creating a standard fit like they are trying to do. perhaps the 9000m series will be MXM V or something, which would mean any current notebook has no upgradability towards future cards. this basically generates a "rollback" gpu swap rather than an upgrade. it's like a glove vendor that creates gloves for 5 fingers, then the next model they make is for 4 fingers, and then 3. what are they solving by doing so?
-
unfortunately.... Arima's "Special" MXM (for M9700/M9750) is not very standard.
Me and Ice-Tea (Master of MXM... runs www.mxm-upgrade.com) have dropped the idea of any future upgrades.
Not to say that its not possible, but Nvidia seems to be pushing their MXM Type IV for the future high-end cards... 98xxM GTX, etc...
