I didn't get lights around my monitor

 

No side light on mine oh well not a big porblem.

On a side note I just ran 3dmark 2006 with out of the box settings and I got 9951 with a windows update poping right in the middle of it

Just ran it again to monitor temperature the gpu seems to not go beyond 83~ and the cpu ran at 66~. This is my first laptop so I dont really know if thats good or bad. Broke 10k with this second test with stock setting again.

I think im going to go try testing stealth mode and see how much battery time I can get now

 

That's a good temp for the GPU and CPU, how did fans sound, hemlok?
Is the fan noise noticeable on stealth mode as well?

 

is 9951 with the 8800? I have to imagine it must be...

 

I got 10 011 on the second run and yes thats with a 8800. While 3dmark run fan are definatly earable but its not that noisy. When the laptop is idle I cant ear the fan so I guess stealth is going to be the same thing.

Can you check the HDMI output and let us know if it is Audio AND video, or Video out only.

Sad news guys. After an hour of interrogation I finally got it out of the sales representatives superior. He told me that there was a limited supply of cases with the rim lighting, ie. the lighting on the edge of the lid. On thier website it says there are six distinct areas of lighting. But no. Now there are only 5. He told me that My comp will not have the lid lighting. REDICULOUS.

 

This is absolute Blatant false advertisement. I have never, been so angry in my life.

 

I was told today the lid is back ordered and they are expecting more this week.

Who knows what that means as far as the light rim goes, but I do not really care.

I still want confirmation on the WUXGA screen (glossy or not) and whether the HDMI is audio and video out, or only video out.

As soon as someone can test, please let us know.

 

I already posted about this- the hdmi only carries video. to get digital audio you need a toslink optical cable, and plug it into the headphone jack.

that SUCKS BALLS about the lack of a monitor side light- i would rather have the keyboard light up though, anyone want to trade

and 10k is a little less than 2x the performance of my 8700, not bad!

 

I told him if he could not get the rim lighting on my comp. I will want my money back, I will tell everyone about the horrible experience. But on the other hand if he can actually come through. I would be happy. But they lied to me. Saying it just was not there, and they did not offer it on the ripley. LIARS

it sucks, and even though the alien heads both have to be the same color, i'm sure thats what they'll say in their defense.

 

mrwater have you tried what I said for hdmi output?

 

it sucks not having the side lights absinthe if you wanted them bad, i actually didnt want them...but on a positive note, it does look good without them. The look is more professionnal in my view...

ps: the side lights are not on their site though

 

you can turn them off if you dont want them though, so having them doesnt hurt.

 

im still pissed, i just hope he can do something about it

Regarding the Audio you say you need Toslink cable that is plugged into Headphone jack, most toslink Optical cables I see though have the optical end points, wouldnt you need one with like a headphone input cord? having hard time finding that on line :S

 

screw that I want it all, I paid good money for this damn thing, And I want nothing short of what was offered at the ces. This is absolutely appauling, and by the way, its six DISTINCT lighting zones, so the alienware head on the inside does NOT count

Perhaps they only have a limited supply of lid light up parts for the preconfigured models of the m15x.
When the basic config and black m15x is released there is going to be a light up lid. I hope so. If not, who cares, what really matters to me is the 8800gtx! and the stealth mode.

 

There's something called a "mini TOSlink" connector that is physically compatible with a mini stereo jack (e.g. typical headphone jack). We're starting to see more devices (e.g. the Apple Airport Express) that have "dual mode" audio outputs in a single jack--plug in a stereo audio cable and it works one way; plug in an optical cable (with aforementioned mini TOSlink connector) and it works another way.

I have a TOSlink cable with connectors on either end that can be switched from standard TOSlink to mini TOSlink. Pretty slick. And it wasn't expensive either.

 

10,011 is pretty sweet, hemlok. Now, you gotta test some games! That's awesome, zero-noise pollution, this the laptop I'm gonna need to carry to my classes. Thanks for the benchmarks!

Guy told me to wait until wednesday. He said hes going to see if he can get me the lights. I told him that I was reviewing it, Which I am, and that they do not need the bad press, which they don't

 

I think that's the only really bad thing about it, but, try out the computer first, you might like it and not return it.

I know it sounds silly, but if your paying top dollar for a notebook like this you should get the stuff that was offered, Ie. six distinct areas of lighting. It is seriously the principle itself. Everyone who paid for this thing should get the full outfit.
What they are doing now is selling it at full price while not putting the full product in, Believe it or not I bet they are making a lot of money by not putting those led's in the lid. Which is preposterous because they are already making a ton off of you!!!

 

Yeah, you are right, this is not too good on AW side. They have to stick to what they say... People pay a lot of money for this computer.

 

you're hilarious absinthe it's funny to see someone get so angry over the lights. i placed my order jan 10th and got it jan 23rd. i can understand why you'd be upset that you're not getting what they showed you, but i had no idea the lights were a deal breaker for some people!

good luck though, you'll need it with the alienware reps

(and i know that you're more upset at the fact that they told you that there were lights and you are not getting them, but the laptop itself is very sexy. i would try and see if they'll give you a price adjustment)

i am using a 1.3 hdmi cable, it does not carry audio.

 

I haven't seen anyone get this angry at lights before, but can't blame 'em, spent a lot of money over this. But, it wouldn't matter to me. But, if you have the chance to fix the problem why not?

 

I'm still waiting for the black version, Mr. Water's. The pics of the silver m15x's posted earlier look sweet though.

 

yeah, im just super picky about things like that if you noticed I went all out on the price to get the max on everything, so I want everything, not just what they got in the back.

Really appreciate all the posting here. I have been waiting for 6 months for M8800GTX and am still waiting for the 17" black ripley SLI config.

I have some questions though.

1) How is the speaker on this. Does it sound like coming from a small tweater or 3 way speaker.

2) Does the keyboard feels like Dell 1720 or IBM type (Good feel and almost no clicking sound when u type)

3) Is the 1920 x 900 resolution too tiny for 15" LCD? Can anyone post some pic

I am tired of waiting and will buy one now and start fraggin in crysis.

 

I can understand being upset because you were told one thing and given another but the better idea might be to try to negotiate a price reduction or extended warranty or ???

The alternative is you can cancel your order and get your money back on principle. Then you can: (1) buy another 15" laptop that won't be as powerful or have the lighting; (2) buy a 17" with the 8800m that won't have the lighting at all; or (3) buy Dell's 1730m which will be more portable, have SLI, shorter battery life and some lighting. Oh, and you'll probably have to wait longer for it as well simply because you have to start the order process all over again.

You're justified in being mad...but seems like you might be the cutting off your nose to spite you face.

If worse comes to worse, i figure, i can wait until they release it with the lighting, which will probably corrispond with the release of the black case aslo, so hey.

I think you might need help...

And here's what I would do...hurry over to Wal-Mart or Target (or even K-Mart) and pick up a string of those fancy LED Christmas lights...hurry before they're gone...and then grab some Scotch tape, and tape them to the laptop's lid...you don't get all the fancy colors, but you'll have lights...in fact, you should have enough to wrap around the case and then it will be extra pretty...my $0.02...
